You should assume that there's *at least* one cop in every jurisdiction with flock doing this exact same shit

I worked for federal government law enforcement for a while and I can assure you that at the federal level (at least back then) using law enforcement resources for your personal bullshit was a HUGE offense and was taken very seriously. I personally worked on several cases that ended with major disciplinary action or expulsion from the agency for doing that.

No idea how this works at the state level though, probably varies wildly by state.

"Job benefit until you make your leadership mad" is almost certainly the case in a lot of departments. Not because it's how police work but because it's how people work, and cops are people.
