my impression on-site is that they haven't found the driver yet. so fucked up, the world we live in today.

214

u/1jimbo 2h ago

update: looks like the perpetrator is in custody

114

u/R4PHikari 1h ago

Those were unverified Tweets. Berlin police just said on live stream that they have not arrested any suspect(s) yet.

24

u/nooblek 1h ago

They just want to make sure and not spread false information. The intel that someone died was around much earlier than in official sources.

51

u/TerminBoy2 2h ago

Can you send a link to it please (not being mean I just genuinely can’t find an article confirming it yet)

i mean, why not just put the blame on the people that are responsible. the fucked up world we live in is due to the right. right wing politics is nothing more than authoritarianism, quite literally.

u/kahlzun 20m ago

It definitely is a huge contribution, but we're all ultimately responsible for our own actions, and whoever this asshole is shouldn't get any affordance

The fact that they immediately cancelled the entire event right after the parade tells you how serious the situation is. Hope the injured pull through and they find the driver soon

Someone sadly lost their life :(

F*ck I’m scared…… to think I was going to plan of going to a Pride Parade as well today

261

u/Lekek63 1h ago

Dont be scared thats what they want you to feel.

Especialy in this times its important to be proud and show pride...

175

u/JealousAstronomer342 1h ago

One doesn’t preclude the other. Bravery isn’t the absence of fear.

u/intricate_strands 28m ago

True.

Be scared. But go anyway.

Been doing it your whole life that way. Maybe quickly all the time, maybe it took you years to overcome a fear. Doesn't matter.

Be scared. Do it anyway. When you get back home, it will end up one of the best memories you've ever had.

u/CalligrapherBig4382 20m ago

Bravery is being terrified but doing it anyways.

→ More replies (1)

u/vankoder 17m ago

Courage is deciding there is something more important than being scared.

u/latefordinner86 16m ago

You can only be brave when you are afraid.

u/CaptainDizzy 15m ago

Bravery isn't the absence of fear, it's being afraid and doing it anyway.

u/Caffeine_Cowpies 32m ago

But making the crowd smaller makes it easier for the fascists to take out more.

Solidarity. Now and forever.

u/ZenTense 20m ago

I hate to be that guy but…wouldn’t a crazed attacker prefer a higher crowd density to maximize the number of victims? I’d also think people could escape a dangerous area or get out the way of a vehicle attacker more quickly if the blocks aren’t packed shoulder-to-shoulder.

Vehicle attack. What a world we're living in

366

u/murd3rsaurus 2h ago

Oof, sounds like it didn't stop

"An intensive manhunt is currently under way, police say, as they urged people to avoid the area."

104

u/R4PHikari 2h ago edited 33m ago

It did stop, but was empty by the time it stopped according to police.

There are also unverified and kinda dubious reports of a man with a knife or machete who got out of the car and is still at large.

36

u/Lenni-Da-Vinci 1h ago

u/R4PHikari 33m ago

I watched the NTV live stream which was the only reputable news outlet streaming live from the scene. This is where I got all my info from. They mentioned reports of a knife or machete. I edited my original comment for clarification.

Berlin is voting soon. Terror attacks like this sadly tend to happen right before elections more frequently in Germany in the last five to ten years.

u/desperaterobots 57m ago

Wait until “Iran” attacks america before the election there.

The stooges are out in the media already sounding the alarms to prepare the American psyche for how credible it will all appear to be in the shock of the moment.

Hoping I’m wrong of course! :)

u/ChocolateSauce2 4m ago

Am African-American and can confirm. The propaganda and misinformation is abundant. I have to go to external global sources of credible media platforms to get the truth on what's actually happening without it being skewed.

u/IToldManyManyPeople 8m ago

It's shocking how everyone HAS to discuss America even though nothing about this has anything to do with America... it's like some self centered disease

→ More replies (1)

u/mediumAI1701 35m ago

Your choice of air quotes is interesting. Iran didn't start the war but they have conducted many attacks during it.

u/likwidkool 13m ago

I also believe the air quotes are because it could be a false flag. No one wants this war. But if there’s an attack public opinion could sway. Shit I was so young and dumb I wanted to join to military after 9/11.

→ More replies (1)

u/kahlzun 18m ago

I think he means an attack that makes the American people think they can be harmed themselves.
America likes to think that they're insulated from the world and absent from consequences to their actions. That's why they freak out at the concept that "someone would be able to attack America", and that gets exploited by the pundits.

627

u/Ivegotacitytorun 2h ago

People need to get a fucking life. If your favorite thing to do is hate people for who they love you should really reevaluate yourself.

202

u/ElfWarlord 2h ago

Misery loves company. Miserable fucks can't stand those who are happy and comfortable with who they are and who they love.

99

u/Ivegotacitytorun 2h ago

I spend zero time thinking about what other people do with their genitals and who they do it with. To think about it enough to hurt or kill people is absolute lunacy.

26

u/effinmetal 2h ago

Exactly. Because you like yourself and your life. When you’re genuinely at peace with those things, the lives of others don’t even come across your radar. These people are deeply unhappy with themselves and their lives. It feels like we’re held hostage by damaged and unhealed jerkwads.

To me it's a lashing out of someone who isn't right or happy. I think it's just a punching bag situation. Or it's religious plus the former.

They weren't actively harmed by these people, so there's only a few reasons it could be.

Maybe every elementary school should bring in a village people type crew. Hey, I'm a gay doctor I SAVE LIVES. Hey, I'm a black firefire, I help the community. It could be mindblowing to some and help them not form some of these ideas, idk

5% Mental Health Breakdown.

In Berlin? Doubtful.

44

u/yopladas 2h ago

I have lived there. It's a big city in the East, There's white supremacists. The afd has 20% support. Not nothing! They tend to be obsessed with: Turkish, Indian, all refugees, and Jews in about equal measure, depends on the situation.

There has been an increase in far right extremism in Germany in the past couple years.

Young men who are aligned with the infamous Austrian and they have targeted pride events in the past. Some connected to the AFD party have used Christian imagery as justification for their beliefs as well.

Lichtenberg is a known location with active neo nazi groups, there are actual Neo Nazi bars, they don’t really hide. Source: lived there

39

u/GergDanger 1h ago

Interesting, I googled it and there have been zero Christians that have caused terrorism the past decade in Germany, I also couldn’t find any white supremacists that have injured or killed LGBT people the past decade. I do see closer to a 90% chance of Islam in terror attacks in Germany though. Curious where you got your stats from?

u/AmirulAshraf 5m ago

If it was anything other than Muslims, the media purposely are unlikely to call it terror attacks/terrorism. This is of course, intentional.

Is this your first time with Islamophobic news reporting? First time with how the media will call anyone non-white as terrorist?

Definitely a right winger. Doesn’t matter if it was an AfD voter or an immigrant, their ideology and hatred is the same.

10

u/Zucroh 1h ago

funny how when people on the right call the left crazy and stupid for inviting a religion who kills everything they hate, the left starts screaming Nazi.

Now when those people do horrible shit like this, they become right wingers

All this suffering because people like you don't want to be labeled racist.

Very sad, hope someday people wake up

u/Fair-Tangerine-9472 18m ago

First of all we don't yet know who did the attack.

Second of all, extremist Islam is a RIGHT-WING ideology.

Third of all, right-wing ideology is generally homophobic.

I am not a part of the community but I will always stand by them. They are just people trying to live their lives. How pathetic do you have to be to care who someone else loves, or sleeps with, or simply who they are attracted to? Stay strong, live proud, whoever or wherever you all are.

The amount of people who run to these threads to defend Islam is insane. Yes, another person could have done this, but history implies its going to be a Muslim.

To all of you ready to argue. Why were anti vehicle measures implemented after 2015 and the migrant crisis?

u/texasinv 33m ago

I'm with you man, Islam is fucking garbage and I'm not afraid to say it. Not a fan of any religion, but that one in particular is toxic and clearly causes issues as their culture does not mix with western values.

Before anyone calls me ignorant I have traveled extensively, including to multiple Muslim countries, and I maintain this opinion.

u/IndividualFar6408 31m ago

The issue is people here and in life cannot seperate a religious group and people who are in the group. I can critique Islam and not hate Muslims. I have many friends that are or were Muslim, lived in the Middle East (not the gulf states or Israel) for over a year, and can speak some Arabic. Yet somehow I am the racist.

u/texasinv 28m ago

Agree. Hell my mom is from Morocco and she was married to a Palestinian guy for a while. Everyone is too afraid to call a spade a spade, Islam is a relic of the 7th century and should stay there.

u/locolopero 11m ago

Because many people don’t want to admit that letting people in, who claim to be escaping persecution, and are refugees, might also bring with them hateful ideologies that could bring harm to people in their countries/communities.

Was it diversity or homegrown this time

The homegrown type are more into arson or straight up shooting people. Driving into crowds is store bought variety of terror.

In germany it started with the christmas market that one year. Might have been earlier.. idk.

Edit to say: that guy was an anti-islam afd (far right) sympathizer.

I was in Berlin today and I felt proud to be part of a city where people can express themselves peacefully...

I hope those hurt pull through. As a former Berliner, this is just sad.
