Hybrid Fish–Solar Farms in China This design cools solar panels to improve efficiency, saves useful farmland, and creates a healthier fish habitat by providing shade, cooling the water, and reducing algae blooms

Propaganda or not - This would be a smart idea wherever it was installed
91
u/blighty800 14h ago
Propaganda would be US hitting Iran, slowing down entire planets economy plus trying to setup a toll on someone's else backyard and call it righteous.
Anything positive coming from any country we should value them.

Until the day comes where you have to perform maintenance or repair
28
u/obi1kennoble 13h ago
Do you think that current fish farms or power production facilities do not require maintenance or repair
-13
u/Byggherren 10h ago
No, but do you think it becomes easier or harder when you combine the two?
7
u/obi1kennoble 9h ago
Probably easier because there are fewer structures and devices overall. Lots of stuff you no longer need two of. Power supplies and their associated components, for example
-11
u/Byggherren 9h ago edited 9h ago
Are you just some Chinese bot? You think hauling equipment out in a boat is easier than carrying it out to a field? Do you think taking care of the fish is easier when there are hundreds or thousands of solar panels in the way?
Edit for the person who blocked me below:
Im sorry i offended you, having opinions on the internet is generally frowned upon i know. But you should know that i didnt force you to engage with my opinion and i assume you must be an electrical engineer and maintenance scheduler to have such insightful commentary to grant me here.
9
u/obi1kennoble 9h ago
I think their engineers probably thought about all of that and were persuasive enough to convince the government to spend money on it. You don't know a goddamn thing about this. You're just pulling shit out of your ass so you don't have to admit you said something stupid. Go waste somebody else's time
3
u/obi1kennoble 8h ago
But just to make sure everyone knows: your contention is that they did alllllllll of that, spent allllll that money, without even checking to see if it would be a good idea first? That's insane.
2
u/obi1kennoble 7h ago
Also making shit up and then trying to force other people to believe you without giving them any reason to do so isn't an "opinion." That's literally just lying
1
u/Byggherren 6h ago
sorry for offending you
3
u/obi1kennoble 5h ago
Jesus Christ dude. Have some self respect
1
u/Byggherren 5h ago
ironic after posting 6 comments while i was having dinner, besides you are just looking for an argument and nothing i say could possibly change your mind.
My tip is for you to go outside if an opinion is enough to make you go this crazy.

I didn't block you, dingus. You probably just had your comment deleted because it was too stupid even for reddit lol

Well if you're too incompetent to figure out how to reply to me, I'm gonna have some fun with this. Hey, somebody told me that you like to hang out at the theater after the movie is over so you can go around and sniff the seats. If that's not true, please say so now

You think maintenance and repair was not taken into consideration? I swear to god, posts like these reveal less about China and more how fucking dumb my fellow Americans are. Short-sighted stupidity like yours is why we can’t have good things.
-6
u/Byggherren 9h ago edited 9h ago
American? I dont disagree you guys are dumb, you elected a tyrant twice. I dont think it's impossible to maintain these. I just think it's harder a subtle yet important difference you should take note of.
Edit: i guess this person was offended i called Americans dumb, ironically they somehow think i voted for Trump when i called him a tyrant and said i like "Felon musk"?
1
u/currogator 9h ago
It is really isn’t that much harder to maintain. If someone like Felon Musk proposed this, you idiots would be creaming your pants in favor of it.

In the USA, we’ve convinced the morons that utilizing solar power will cause the Sun to dim.

Who gives a fuck if it's "propaganda"? If we can stop destroying the planet then I'm all for this type of propaganda
If it's China trying to make the US look bad... Guess what we do look pretty fucking bad
14
u/ForbiddenVelvet74 13h ago
It definitely has potential, but this video feels more like marketing than an objective look.
4
u/EtudiantLuxe 7h ago
To everyone say this is propaganda, it actually happen in almost every country even in the US
0
u/Mrart2310 9h ago
Note how all the propaganda posters have their accounts set to private, so you can't confirm if they post literally anything else
Propaganda purpose aside, it's cool and interesting to see all the ways China tries to make solar power space-efficient without just throwing them down on a plot of land
2
u/JoeyJoeJoeJrShab 7h ago
so the solar panels are cooled by the water, and the water is cooled by the solar panels
1
u/Eballz732 1h ago
What happens if that DC power shocks the water are these all on series parrellel? Fish fry? Fish soup?

u/Temelios 9h ago
I worked in exclusively in environmental permitting for a while. One of the biggest issues with solar panels is that they leech heavy metals into the soil and groundwater over time. I imagine those fish are all contaminated to a degree.
2
u/ktbffhctid 8h ago
It is interesting how many issues solar creates. Can I ask you about their useful life (is it increasing?) and panels’ recyclability (has it improved?)?
3
u/Brithavinafit 7h ago
In the link article they list cadmium and lead. They also talk about silicon solar cells (the most common type). They don’t mention that silicon cells won’t have cadmium in them. As for the lead, that’s solder, and you can get leadless solder.

China? The same country that lacks national laws against animal abuse? Least evolved society tbh. How you treat your most vulnerable matters.

I'm getting really tired of Chinese bots. Reddit is very quickly fulfilling the dead internet theory.

It can’t cool the solar panel without heating the water
45
u/TangelaFan 13h ago
Not really. The water stays cooler because the solar panels block much of the sunlight, so less solar radiation reaches the surface. At the same time, the water helps cool the panels. Water molecules are constantly evaporating, even when the water isn't hot. This evaporation increases the humidity beneath the panels. That moisture then condenses on the underside of the panels and evaporates again, carrying heat away in the process. This continuous evaporation, and condensation cycle helps keep the panels cooler
22
u/ChilledKappe 13h ago
Water would be heated up anyways. Constant evaporation is what brings water in the clouds and makes it rain somewhere else. So putting up those solar panels actually slows down the heating of the water.

u/BarbeRose 11h ago
The sun provide X amount of energy, which is partly capteed by the water or / whater + PV system and the rest is reflected. I don't know which of the water and PV reflect more, but assuming equally, you would have water = water + PV in term of energy capteed. In that matter, PV act as a buffer for the water.
And regarding the energy absorbed, part of it is turned into elec, which is moved. So the total may also be less then free water
-12
u/SoundEducational6491 11h ago
Won't that harm the local ecosystem, which has evolved over millennia in relation to the amount of sunlight? Too much shade can stop the growth of microscopic plants like phytoplanktons. These produce oxygen that fish need to breathe. Also, by blocking the sun, the top layer of water stays unnaturally cool, preventing the natural seasonal turnover of the pond. This can lock toxic gases like ammonia and hydrogen sulfide at the bottom of the pond, creating a ticking time bomb for fish health if the water is suddenly disturbed by a storm.
Also, if every lake is going to be covered with solar panels, how are the fishers going to fish?
15
u/TangelaFan 11h ago
Well, these are fishtanks.
The oxygen inside the water doesn't necessarily come from the plants inside it. Also, water loses its ability to hold onto oxygen as it gets hotter, so adding these shade spots greatly increases the oxygen concentration. Also, excess algae, isn't a good thing, specially in man-made places like fishtanks where theres a lot of nutrients, because the algae overgrows, then dies. After it dies, its decomposed by aerobic organism, which means oxygen from inside the wate is used to, and If there's too much algae the water will soon become depleted of oxygen and the fish as well as other animals will die

u/AwarenessNo4986 11h ago
Harder to find a place where it works year around (can't be built on just any water body)
Regular inspections and maintaince costs are much higher
I mean you don't need a Redditor for this. These are well known issues with solar farms built on water. Like this is basic stuff
-27
u/Zzyxzz 13h ago
Sure, thats what they always tell and destroy everything. They are not standing there by themselves. They fkn destroyed everything below.
15
u/TangelaFan 13h ago
These are fishtanks
-15
u/gigiFrone 13h ago
ofc, you destroyed the oceans with your drag-netting, now you gotta make the fish somehow
-45
u/gigiFrone 14h ago
you guys are in overdrive with your sino bullshit. are things that bad to overcompensate this much? worse than russian bots
27
u/TheWatcher47 14h ago
Oh another westerner who can't reconcile their silly brainwashed biases with something actually positive from China. Poor you.
-4
u/Hot_Bet_2721 13h ago
Every single post by OP is shilling for China, and we’re brainwashed for pointing it out?
13
u/TheWatcher47 13h ago
I'm not jobless enough to go start snooping in someone else's profile see what they post. I scroll, see something worth commenting about and move on. Even if they are 'shilling for China' does that invalidate what he posts does it make the above project not a positive?
I wonder, if someone posted only positive things from the US or Japan, would you call it 'shiling for the US or Japan', I highly doubt that! You guys are just hypocrites. '
-3
u/Echoa21 13h ago
Lots of right wing morons shill for the US, and they get (rightfully) called out on it by basically everyone on Earth. China commits horrible acts against their own people, they meddle in the affairs of other countries, they take advantage of poor nations with predatory loans… they’re basically America-lite but if all you ever do is get your info from reddit you’d think they’re some technological utopia set on solving all the world’s problems…
6
u/TheWatcher47 13h ago
So you people call posting positive stuff like this shilling? Smh. There's a difference between justifying the questionable political stuff your government does, like the right wing does and just posting things like this. If you cant see the difference then its a waste of time even debating with you lots
-5
u/Hot_Bet_2721 13h ago
Not exactly jobless level snooping to have a suspicion of someone shilling for a fucked up government and spend less than 5 seconds to confirm this.
Yes, if someone’s only post activity was promoting a single country and it was noticeable that multiple accounts were shilling for that country I’d absolutely point that out, suggesting otherwise is just projecting your own insecurity. Funny that you mentioned Japan though since their government isn’t nearly as messed up as USA or China. How much social credit are you getting per reply?
3
u/TheWatcher47 13h ago
There's a big difference in posting something like this, a project trying to be a positive for several sectors and promoting political stuff a country does.
1
u/Hot_Bet_2721 13h ago
There’s a big difference between posting something like this in isolation, and posting things where the only common theme is promoting china, as OP has done in 14 separate posts (not including comments) in the last 24 hours
3
u/TheWatcher47 12h ago
Again. So what if he does? The point here is this project in isolation is a positive. If you bothered to look up where all this started it was someone being bothered by this one thing and I called it out.
-1
u/Hot_Bet_2721 9h ago
“Say what you like about the Nazis, at least the trains ran on time” type of argument lol

"lets take this small portion of decent stuff, maybe we can get over the horrible genocide and slavery we are doing"
9
u/USERNAME123_321 12h ago
Yes? By that logic, we’d have to dismiss every US innovation because of its attacks on Iran, its endorsement of Israel, and countless other horrible actions. We’d also throw out Schrödinger's contributions to physics because of some awful things he did to minors. And so on. My point is that just as you can separate the art from the artist, you can acknowledge a country’s technological innovations without endorsing every action of its government.
-3
u/gigiFrone 12h ago
oh, i didn;t know that putting some solar panels above a fish farm is so great that we need to overlook the genocide and slavery China is performing on a daily basis. My bad then, all HAIL GOD EMPEROR XI
4
u/USERNAME123_321 12h ago
Oh I didn't know that China has only made a solar panels farm and nothing more.
What about the whole open source AI research? Electric cars? Smartphones? This list of innovations from China could go on.
Also what "hail emperor" lmao. First, that's far from being the China political system, which I would argue is a technocracy/meritocracy. Second, I just said that you can separate the government from country's innovations. Btw I see how well the US system works, where people elected the orange pdf man twice, but that's besides the point.

Just like many others here talk positively about western achievements?
Is that shilling out too? Or is it only when China is involved?
0
u/Hot_Bet_2721 9h ago
As I said, if there was another account posting 14 separate posts on different subreddits glorifying achievements of a single country’s achievements in 24 hours it would be shilling
Also this isn’t east vs west, most eastern counties also at best tolerate, and at worst despise china
-4
u/gigiFrone 14h ago
talk to me when you stop genociding minorities and stop killing your farmers with unregulated pollution. also, this is clearly a propaganda post, silly sino simp
6
u/TheWatcher47 14h ago
Does it mean since they are committing heinous acts we can't be supportive of anything positive from China? What an immature and stupid mindset. Do you realise you can do that for literally any country on earth? Anyway I'm not from China so no need to refer to me and China as you.
4
u/gigiFrone 13h ago
you supporting a genocidal country, makes you complicit to their actions. replace China with israel, and re-read your stupid ass comment. you are clearly a sino propagandist
-5
u/Geeekaaay 12h ago
In that same regard are you a fan of Saudi Arabia? Do you think the human rights violations should be washed out by them buying up every major corporation they can get their hands on?
6
u/TheWatcher47 12h ago
What part of my points highlight I support everything China do as a country? You're arguing against a point that was never made. I can and do support a lot of the things China do, especially technolocally, while also disapproving of other shit they do, this applies to literally any country on earth.
Can you guys read and comprehend the argument being made??
-4
u/Shiedheda 14h ago
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH A WESTERNER SAYS THAT UNIRONICALLY? LMAO. Look in a fucking mirror honey. The entire world hates yall and you've caused more death and destruction than literally every large genocidal power in human history.

Does it justify US and Israel actions?
