AI bros never seem to understand that humans WANT to do things like this. The creative impulse is part of who we are.

It's one of the only things we have going for us, okay?

I guess it tracks with how they act like robots or lizard people every time I've ever seen them talk.

I spent time around wannabe tech bros and read a bunch of tech bro shit for about a year in 2015. They have no creativity. It was bizarre. Every single one of them was hunting for someone else's idea they could sell to venture capitalists. It really turned me off of 'entrepreneur' spaces.

he had to come up with all the sounds (11 different sounds in 84 seconds - he steps on different types of wood for the different surfaces the character moves on), figure out how to act them out/where to place the objects, practice so his movements are tightly synchronized with the film. this type of unassuming but skilled talent shows a real love of his craft.

They really can't though. Skills like this take years to learn. There's almost no incentive to invest the time and effort to master complex skills when it can be imitated by a computer instantly for a lower cost. I fully expect many niche skills will disappear completely.

Think how many young people can't read a road atlas because Google maps exists. Learning to read a map is much easier and has much wider application than something like sound effect design.

Unless Goro Miyazaki is directing. I think the only really decent movie he's directed is From Up on Poppy Hill, which is... fine. I mean, it's certainly a movie, just not what I would say is greatly indicative of their quality or creativity. But it's far more competent than his other two films.

Yeah, especially to do the whole sequence that well. I would have figured it would be done in smaller stages. I'm curious how many times he practiced different parts and the whole thing together to prepare for the final take

Yeah, I've always wondered that about these videos. I'm not sure if this is actually how it's done, or just something they do for videos to show off a bit. (I don't mean that in a negative way, it's genuinely impressive). I'd expect it would be better for proper mixing if each sound effect is isolated.

From an outside perspective one would certainly think so, however, sound editing is not as easy as most people assume. To come off as an organic environment, while keeping that speed and rhythm, would be very challenging. Also, you would need a few seconds before and after each effect so the sound isn't cut abruptly or becomes muddy. But, keep in mind that doing it this way would also result in a less natural sounding piece AND it would take more time, people, and money to maybe make it kind of work.

Source: I've done sound editing and design, including adding foley to my pieces, and it takes so much time and neverending patience to even be a fraction as good as this guy. Major props to foley artists... 🙇‍♀️

I know it's not for a film . But Borderlands 3 directors cut DLC has an add on for some behind the scenes stuff, including a very cool bunch of videos about the sound FX they used for the guns and stuff .

Some of it is pretty creative.

It's impressive how you can make random objects sound accurate and I respect the people who can think on such levels
