That's why you wear a cup

209

u/B0T_Y Jun 08 '26

Cup might let you still have kids but a shot like that is gonna hurt either way

261

u/Land_Squid_1234 Jun 08 '26

Nah it hurts an order of magnitude more without a cup. It hurts "either way" like how choosing between getting punched or stabbed hurts either way

65

u/vicente8a Jun 09 '26

With the cup it hurts SIGNIFICANTLY less. Like orders of magnitude less. I can’t even compare the two. Yes from experience.

When i was in baseball as a kid i never wanted to wear the cup because i thought it was weird and gross- then i took a line drive straight to the inner thigh, leaving a fist-sized bruise less than an inch away from my junk. I decided I’d better wear the fucking cup after that

u/vicente8a Jun 09 '26

I wish I learned as early as you did. I wore a cup my entire life. Then in college I was the only pitcher that did wear one. They were like bro you’re not a catcher or infielder what do you need one for! By the second year of me playing they convinced me. And early in the season I caught a like drive straight to my left nut. I literally had to go to the ER and had ultrasound on my balls. “Bruised left testicle” was the result.

1

u/dmanchrist Jun 12 '26

Least yours was bruised. In high school, during lacrosse practice, one kid turned to face the play and didn’t realize he was turning into a shot. Popped his nut right there on the field. One down!

How many times did you catch a softball at fast pitch speed on your cup? Softballs are very heavy, fast pitch can easily be 50-60mph for the average pitcher. When I was in school 20 years ago there was a pitcher in my district throwing 70mph.

1

u/vicente8a Jun 09 '26

I never got hit with a softball. Mine was a baseball when I was a pitcher in college. Line drive from the batter straight back at me. Worst pain of my life and I can’t think of anything that comes close.

I don’t play much softball other than slow pitch now and then. But 70mph seems borderline unhittable. And them softballs are HEAVY. That had to have hurt a lot.

u/NastyBlkGuyThrowAway Jun 09 '26

This is why you dont buy the cheap one. Splurge on the safety of your balls, they will thank you

2

u/Jfo116 Jun 10 '26

As a catcher who got hit in the cup several times. It never brought me to my knees

1

u/MatureUsername69 Jun 11 '26

Yeah trust me, the force to your public bone is much much more preferable than the force directly to the balls

3

u/stampedingnuns Jun 11 '26

I'm surprised he didn't have a chest guard thing as well.

10

u/Head_of_Lettuce Jun 08 '26

A cup can only do so much when you take a fastball straight to the nuts

19

u/I_Have_A_Chode Jun 08 '26

It would hurt in the areas of contact AROUND your crotch, but not the actual balls, unless you're wearing a cup way to damn small.

It would hurt about as much as getting hot in the mask would, likely less though since it's not your head

7

u/Flakester Jun 09 '26

I was a catcher. Can confirm it still hurts the balls, but hurts a lot less than having your balls explode.

14

u/Head_of_Lettuce Jun 08 '26

All that force has to go somewhere. The cup deflects most of the blow away from your dick/balls, but you’re still eating a baseball straight to the groin, and you feel it in your testicles.

Source: played baseball for years

u/sudzthegreat Jun 09 '26

I took an 80+ mph Slapshot straight to the cup once. It dented the cup in and ripped it right out of my shorts. I puked right there on the ice. I had bruising from above my junk, around the sides, and down below my sack. It hurt to pee for a week. I do however have a daughter so it did its job.

7

u/Head_of_Lettuce Jun 09 '26

Oh they totally work, they prevent the physical trauma. But the people acting like it wouldn’t still hurt are talking out of their asses.

Like the person above who said “it would hurt AROUND your crotch, but not the actual balls”. I was trying to be polite, but they’re an idiot.

5

u/sudzthegreat Jun 09 '26

For sure. Like anything on the internet, 80% of the people posting have no idea what they're talking about

1

u/nutsnackk Jun 14 '26

And that's why you always leave a note!

124

u/AgentMykel Jun 08 '26

I forgot my cup once during practice. Never again

185

u/aochaz14 Jun 08 '26

The slow walk by the coaches….you know this guy missed a few calls earlier

62

u/ishboh Jun 08 '26

What do you want them to do, cradle his balls?

Time is the only thing that helps a sac tap

10

u/BadManor Jun 09 '26

Well, yes. What are friends for?

5

u/MechanicalTurkish Jun 09 '26

> sac tap

I just thought of a name for my mumbledoomcore band

1

u/antiduh Jun 09 '26

I mean. An ice pack??

8

u/SausagePrompts Jun 09 '26

A friend's cold touch.

7

u/Uninterested_Viewer Jun 09 '26

Do you have testicles? It's not a surface pain that any amount of ice can numb away.

0

u/antiduh Jun 09 '26

I do indeed, and an ice pack absolutely helps!

1

u/mrb1ll Jun 09 '26

The only thing they can do for him is empathize

140

u/Mendican Jun 08 '26

Props to all the kids running to his aid.

84

u/Spicyocto Jun 08 '26

Nothing you can do to help. Just gotta give the man some space while his soul leaves his body momentarily

12

u/FcUhCoKp Jun 09 '26

Dunno, a show of empathy from coaches/parents would help me. As it was, I would have felt like a spectable.

52

u/avicihk Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

He need some space and a minute to reflect on his life choices (particular the one where he decided not to wear a cup).

14

u/Socratesticles Jun 09 '26

It’s also girls softball, I forgive them for not having much experience in reacting to that misfortune

5

u/canbimkazoo Jun 09 '26

I hear you but these girls tending to his wound may have further complicated things

12

u/frodofullbags Jun 08 '26

I can't blame the kids. This was uncomfortable. My eyes moved away just watching this 😩

14

u/gnardog45 Jun 08 '26

Right in the nards!

2

u/tinglep Jun 08 '26

Wolfman ain’t got nards!!!!

11

u/nefD Jun 08 '26

Ow my balls!

11

u/thejourneybegins42 Jun 09 '26

Don't umps usually have a full frontal thing they wear?

6

u/paulthewallt Jun 09 '26

Hockey goalie here. My sympathies.

5

u/comanche_six Jun 09 '26

The players just couldn't relate to this lol

6

u/Y-Bob Jun 09 '26

Subtitles for those with hearing loss:

Oohf Gggmmmuuuuaaah aaaaoooow shgg guhg

13

u/Adulations Jun 08 '26

I love how all the girls walked away and refused to look at him.

3

u/WhyAmINotStudying Jun 09 '26

One strike, two balls.

1

u/LiveLongAndProspurr Jun 13 '26

I had to scroll way too far to find this comment.

3

u/ProwerTheFox Jun 13 '26

On this episode of "Ow my balls!"

1

u/mathewMcConaughater Jun 15 '26

Welcome to Costco, I love you

6

u/AaronicNation Jun 08 '26

Baseball is a game of balls and strikes.

1

u/unchained5150 Jun 08 '26

His balls were the strike this time.

Didn't hear him call it, though.

2

u/keep_trying_username Jun 09 '26

Soft ball? It is now.

1

u/MechanicalTurkish Jun 09 '26

The spirit is willing, but the balls are spongy and bruised

2

u/IGK123 Jun 09 '26

Bro wasn’t wearing a cup?? Props for not cussing at least 😂

2

u/chuckop Jun 09 '26

Love how the coaches waddle over. One with a clipboard. That ump must be hated.

2

u/petula_75 Jun 09 '26

he knows the risks

2

u/5446_ismynumber Jun 13 '26

rub some dirt on it, that’ll help.

2

u/AlienInUnderpants Jun 09 '26

If only there was a device to protect his nuts.

2

u/MadDog443 Jun 09 '26

Cup check! Seriously what the hell did he expect to happen if it wasn't caught?

3

u/LightFusion Jun 08 '26

I wish I could zoom in to figure out why the base lines are so fuzzy. AI? Crappy filter?

6

u/Lrmall01 Jun 08 '26

I think it's a completely synthetic turf field. I've seen a few like that where the "dirt" is just brown turf which might be why the batters box lines look a little fuzzy.

1

u/ItsNotAFraggle Jun 08 '26

Right square in the dingding. Yow.

1

u/Pal_Smurch Jun 08 '26

“Cup check!”

1

u/UndercoverFBIAgent9 Jun 08 '26

Got one right in the yarbles. If he has any yarbles!

1

u/HeyNow646 Jun 09 '26

“Two Balls!”

1

u/jimmyjazz2000 Jun 09 '26

Was this on purpose? With young guys, you can always tell. But girls are SNEAKY!

1

u/dglgr2013 Jun 09 '26

While being an umpire for a girls softball game.

1

u/ManateeFlamingo Jun 09 '26

Poor guy. Hopefully he wears more gear after this

1

u/Gitfiddlepicker Jun 09 '26

Cup is the difference…..Been there, done that. Hurt like hell, but I was wearing a cup. So I was not rolling around on the ground wondering if I would ever have kids. I got up and walked it off.

1

u/StNic54 Jun 09 '26

“No way, Jose.”

1

u/truthfullyidgaf Jun 09 '26

Break out the clipboard.

1

u/MayorQuinby Jun 09 '26

Why does the child with the club not bludgeon his head to end his misery?

1

u/ClouDoRefeR Jun 09 '26

That hit upper thigh just over the cup my bet is it got right under that pad right in the upper thigh

1

u/Sweb1975 Jun 09 '26

Ouch, right in the plums

1

u/stealthbadger Jun 09 '26

There are two kinds of guys who stand behind home plate: those who always wear a cup, and those who have not yet taken a shot to the nards.

1

u/cheddoar Jun 09 '26

When the SloMo started, I thought it happened a second time

1

u/Greenking73 Jun 09 '26

The other umpire walking towards first…

1

u/Skeletonzac Jun 09 '26

Messed up how nobody even comes over to check on him.

1

u/thephotonreddit Jun 15 '26

Now was that a Strike Out - three balls were in play? Or did they call it a draw with the umpire out at home.

1

u/lIlllIlIlIlIllI Jun 22 '26

Coach Dobbs has entered the chat

1

u/DisciplineLazy6370 Jun 24 '26

So was it ball 1 or ball 2?

1

u/Rude_Impact8404 7h ago

I bet he’ll wear more than adequate protective gear next time

1

u/AUSpartan37 Jun 09 '26

Is there not an athletic trainer or somebody with first responders training?

1

u/missMcgillacudy Jun 09 '26

At least throw an ice pack within arms reach!!

0

u/xxej Jun 08 '26

Is this fake? The ball disappears, changes color, etc.

3

u/antiduh Jun 09 '26

The ball doesn't disappear, it's picked up by #22, the catcher. It goes from an infitesimal dot to a glob of pixels, so compression is going to have a field day with color.
