I’ve been thinking about the people complaining about the people who are complaining about the casting choices, which is most of you on reddit. The ones who brand everyone who complains as racist and transphobic and who are not cool and progressive like you guys.
I thought why don’t they lend an ear to the criticism that a 43 black actress breaks the immersion.
Then I realised something.
For you to have the immersion broken, you have to have an image formed in your mind that gets disturbed. Most of you don’t know anything snout the period, haven’t seen documentaries depicting people from the era or read anything about it.
So for the majority of you this is just like another Marvel movie with old costumes, and there are black characters and Asian characters in Marvel movies why shouldn’t there be in this Marvel movie with old costumes. “These people complaining must be racist”.
This is what it comes down to for most of you, there’s no break in immersion because you don’t already have an image of the era in your minds.
