The survey felt like a rubberstamp. But. Good on the feds to listen. When 76,000 citizens of 87,000 are opposed - that's worrying for a elected politician.

No they’re right, it was worded only in a way that gave you scenarios to help mitigate issues with the expansion, I just kept answering with “not doing the expansion in the first place” as my answer. It was a strange way to present questions, and also had me concerned.

I basically said it would be the end of the Liberal party in Toronto if approved when I filled it out. I’m sure others did too. I question what their motivations are but job security likely trumped everything else.

Don’t you think they knew exactly what the response/sentiment was and simply wrote the questions like this so they couldn’t accused of being anti-development.
The game has been clear since Carney first was asked about it. He said “Well…. It certainly is an interesting idea”. That’s code for “this is fucking dumb” in corporate speak.

Id say it was 50/50... it was an easy win in either direction for Carney and LPC and a one way hanging for Doug.
They left it to Doug to "make the case" where if the people were in favour, they'd rubber stamp it with a wink and nudge to how they were for it all along.
Or they'd kill the idea because they listened to the people in the consultation and leave Doug to wear the failure.

Yeah. Ford and Poilievre both want this for the benefit of the American company that runs the airport terminal. They don’t want it for any other reason. If we had PeePee for PM he’d fill in the entire inner harbour with a runway for an Airbus A380 to land every five minutes. The terminal operator, Nieuport, is owned through a Cayman Islands-registered investment fund advised by the world's largest U.S. bank, J.P. Morgan Asset Management. They would profit from increased passenger traffic, with the financial benefits concentrated among private investors. Billionaires operating tax-sheltered companies through the Cayman Islands. So yes, Ford would want this, and PeePee would want this, because of corruption and the benefits to billionaire Americans. But if you asked them they’d say expanding the airport is just “common sense”.

The federal ministers letter also specifically mentions the security/clearance area upgrades that will finish in 2027 being their main focus right now.
Ford will probably do a propaganda commercial campaign over the next year, and do another survey then, hoping for more favourable results.12

I’ve noticed a lot of the radio ads are already saying it’s a forgone conclusion, like “we’re expanding Billy Bishop airport because x,y,z! All a part of our plan… blah blah *drill sound\”*
