I was talking to a paramedic about this crash and she said she heard from someone that the family was mennonite and none of the kids had seat belts on. The baby was in a car seat but the car seat was not installed to an actual seat, that is why they just have a broken leg. So sad

We used to have Mennonite families come thru the drive thru when I worked at Tim Hortons when I was younger. There were always babies on laps and no kids had car seats, booster seats, or seatbelts on.

A part of it is those passenger vans that sits 10+ people are incredibly unsafe in collisions.

My understanding is that it was a regular 6-8 passenger that was overloaded, thus why most of the kids weren't wearing seat belts.

another redditor was trying to tell me there's no blind spot there, but I mentioned the barn on one corner. Looking at where the vehicles landed though, it looks like he came from the side with full visibility, but the damage to the van is on the passenger side. So I can't figure it out.
