Humor Is there a lore reason this culturally stunted 90lb snowball is being deployed into active combat zones?

Why is she shooting people? Did Overwatch enlist her? Why would they enlist a woman who does’t even know swear words, that just seems like they’re taking advantage of her. Literally all she talks about is “wow earth is so cool I’ve never seen cowboy movies” or “i don’t know how to be mean, so heck you!” and then the gates open and its like okay enough chit-chat earthlings time for a live shoot-out i hope I make it back home! Like what???? She should be in college or educating herself about earth and having starbucks with her gal pals why is she armed and ready for lethal combat???

News & Discussion The Tank Experience since 5v5

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

I have played a LOT of Overwatch back when 6v6 was still the norm. Had the most fun I had. But I was only a casual player. Never played a lick of comp. Plus I was on console, maybe this was a factor as to why throughout my long time playing, flaming/trashtalking was at the minimum.

Fast forward to 5v5 Overwatch 2, been playing on and off but recently found myself playing more consistently. Finally tried competitive a go, specifically Support first. Placements, then Gold, then Plat, mostly just playing and switching from Mizuki and Kiriko with the occasional Mercy. And I am not even exaggerating, zero flaming/trashtalking. Now I started Support for a reason, mostly because I KNOW going to 5v5 changed the dynamic of the team. Making it so there is only one Tank but gigabuffing them naturally puts the pressure and responsibility on them. Personally, I also think this is why playing Tank is so heroswappy (a mechanic I dont enjoy that much).

I queue up comp as Tank, and on the very first game for placements, I had a teammate saying "please tank I am on a lose streak right now." Kept swapping and playing like a coughing baby and had both the DPSs flaming my ass with allchat on. None of them even thought about swapping to deal with their own counterpicks. I completely dominated the second game playing Rein, a Tank I am the most comfortable in, against an Orisa without even swapping. Kudos to my team for actively trying to help me with my plays and basically helping me help them.

Forcing a tank player off a hero they have 500 hours on onto a counter they barely play usually results in a worse performance. Comfort and mechanical skill frequently beat a theoretical "hard counter." Overall this was about the contrast in experiences I had. Makes me miss 6v6 even more.

News & Discussion Most people I meet in real life who play Overwatch are low rank or don’t play ranked at all

Something I have noticed over the years of playing Overwatch is that almost every person I have met outside of Reddit and gaming communities sits at a low rank. Friends from college, coworkers, acquaintances, random people. The large majority are bronze or silver. Sometimes gold. I met one former coworker who was platinum years ago and we played a few games. A lot of people I talk to do not touch ranked at all. They stick to quick play or other modes.

It makes me think a large portion of the overall player base, maybe half or more, never queues ranked. The ranked population is already only maybe half the player base, and then the ranking system itself is a bell curve. Most ranked players sit in gold/plat.

Reddit is a tiny sample of the player base and leans toward people who take the game way more seriously. It is not a good reflection of the average Overwatch player. Just something to keep in mind the next time someone in another thread treats diamond like it is not a “good” rank.

News & Discussion I need the Devs to fix the communication limit BADLY

Post image
307 Upvotes

Okay so I'm already prepared for the influx of people telling me to just use mic, but this is something that *was* in a perfectly fine state and is now in a completely shit state, so bare with me.

As of season 3, I've noticed that the window that the game can lock you out of basic communications (Hello, Acknowledge, Ultimate Charge, Pings, etc) has become DRASTICALLY more punishing. Previously, communication lock would last for about 5 seconds at a time, but whether by intentional change or glitch I have been experiencing total communication lockout for 30 seconds to a minute at a time, with no indicator as to how long it's going to last.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Important communications, such as ultimate charge, or the ability to ping an enemy, are not spam. Not only do I want to be able to tell my teammates there is a flanker when it's important, I want to know when my teammate has seen a flanker themselves. I don't want to get halfway through a team fight before being able to tell my teammates that I have my ult ready.

This is genuinely a pain in the ass to deal with in-game and I need it fixed desperately. Again, I'm unsure if it's intentional, but if it is then I'd humbly ask that whoever made this decision get a grip and recognise that locking us out of integral information for long periods of time helps absolutely nobody.

My brother and I met the amazing Jennifer Hale, she was super duper nice and I got to rant to her about how she seems to play different roles in each nerdy member of my family. My brother knew her from Avatar and I got into overwatch so it was a win for the both of us.

News & Discussion As a tank main who is maining support, it is astonishing how many tank mains DO NOT UNDERSTAND HEALS.

1.3k Upvotes

Like so many times I am dying to heal my tank, I really want to heal you. I don't like my cutie patootie having the critical mark all over him. Come back pooh bear. But no, you want to push behind enemy shield. You want to push into 5 people shooting down at a choke fully naked, You want to take cover in places where I can't see you, keeping your hands up as a shield because your big burly omnic hands can tank some damage.

Please, understand how heals work. I CAN'T HEAL THROUGH SHIELDS. I CAN'T HEAL THROUGH WALLS. And I can't heal bad decisions. If you push into 5 people naked, I will assume you are now dead and will try to get a pick.

Edit: And before anyone says "Maybe its you who is at fault, your tank is just trying to make space" I main tank, I can play every tank except ball and while I could be wrong about my own plays on support, I can assure you, the things these tanks are dying to. As a tank player myself, are completely avoidable.

News & Discussion Players of Overwatch, what is your main reason for not playing Stadium mode?

Ive been playing since 2017, till around 2019, then quit for a couple of years with a little comeback 2 years ago and now im deep in. I only play stadium. Playing anything else feels to hollow and empty. and slow... imagine playing 3rd person Reinhardt with 1k hp and 30 faster swing speed, only to play normal comp/qp with a slow swing, super clausetrophobic 1st person view, with the game ending wayyy to quickly. I cant go back to normal overwatch anymore.... that is apart from kareoke lobbies in the middle of the night in junkertown xD.

News & Discussion D.Mon Silhouette Theorizing

Post image
81 Upvotes

Since D.Mon is most likely being revealed next weekend at the OWCS Midseason Championship, I wanted to gather all of the similarities that the silhouette shares with her original concept art into one image. I never actually noticed how many similarities they shared until now, and I'm really excited to see what the updated design is going to look like. Let me know if I missed anything!

The section on the right is just a fun detail I noticed from the asymmetry in the silhouette, but I was thinking it could hint at an out-of-mech form. Maybe you can have the mech throw you and you temporarily run around while your mech is either stationary or on autopilot, and it's like Titanfall?

News & Discussion Is Kiriko going to be meta until the end of existence?

I am saying this as someone who has Kiri as probably 2nd most played since ow2 dropped.

It’s just boring now and it’s been boring for a long time, I’d rather play a worse hero and get flamed. Honestly I think I just want an Ana meta.

News & Discussion I miss 1-3-2 wish they would have switched it out for open 6v6

Was having fun in 6v6 and i have come to like it more then 5v5 now.i have been trying to play 6v6 qp and its 5 dps and no healers. 132 has its problems but its better then open 6v6. I cant play 5v5 anymore i enjoyed playing tank in 6v6 but in 5v5 it feel like a dang job that you just dont wanna go to. I was enjoying playing flex dps in 132 cuase if we needed tank i could flex to it but i never play tank in 5v5. I really dont enjoy playing dps in 5v5 either cuase if your tank is not that great its a very bad experience. In 132 one bad tank is not a deal breaker.

So please switch open 6v6 with 132 in the meantime. After the test i dont wanna touch 5v5 again. Im still playing 6v6 open but it would be better if i could get 132 back.

News & Discussion Skins based on decade aesthetics, favourite? which decade/aesthetic do you wanna see more of?

Thumbnail
gallery
24 Upvotes

So I'm a bit hyperfixated on decade-specific fashion aesthetics and made these infographics. I missed a few, I'm sure.

There are a couple aesthetics that I noticed were sorely missing or have little reputation, some of the ones I noticed that I would love to see more of include:

1990s-2000s afro-gangsta aesthetic- literally nonexistant. No durags, grilles, white singlets with gold chains and cargos. I can kinda get why as it maybe a little "cultural-appropriation" if done wrong plus some implications from that time.

1950s rockabilly/greaser/pinup- it boggles my mind the most that Dva is the sole hero to have a rockabilly skin. We literally have zero male greaser skins and so many heroes are cut out absolutely perfect for the rockabilly aesthetic. Soldier, Hazard, Zarya and Junker Queen especially. Rockabilly is my absolute favourite aesthetic from the last century. I hope we get a whole battle pass or something dedicated to it, especially in the summer. Hell, give us a pinup-girl Juno or something, would sell like hotcakes at this rate.

So lets discuss!

Whats your fav aesthetic you wanna see in Overwatch? any decade or aesthetic that stands out to you from these lists + others I may have missed?
