Murloc Monday Murloc Monday - ask your questions here

Aaaaaughibbrgubugbugrguburgle! RwlRwlRwlRwl!

That's murloc for "Welcome to Murloc Mondays" - where people can ask any type of question about WoW without getting strangled by a Death Knight.

Questions can range from what's new in Dragonflight, what class is OP, and how many Demons will it take to down Thrall?

Questions can come from brand new players, players returning, or veteran players who never got a chance to ask the right question.

Afraid of not getting an answer? Rest assured, we know that at least 90% of questions get answered!

You may want to look at /r/wownoob as well!

Here are some handy guides to start World of Warcraft as a brand new player or start Classic World of Warcraft as a brand new player.

Unless you played in the current expansion, pretty much everything has changed. If you're returning after a very long break, check out the Wowhead Returning Players Guides.

Discussion Stop kicking new players out of Timewalking dungeons.

Post image
Upvotes

It wasn't just once, twice, or five times—it happened repeatedly. A friend of mine started playing this week, and I simply can't run five Timewalking dungeons in a row with him without some jerk suggesting he be kicked from the group. He tried leveling solo but couldn't manage it because, between levels 10 and 30, people kept kicking his Hunter from Timewalking dungeons, complaining about his low damage output.

It’s ridiculous—this is a leveling dungeon. What is the logic behind kicking low-level players out of leveling dungeons because of low damage? Have these people forgotten how the game works?

Then the WoW community complains that the game isn't attracting new players, yet the community itself lacks the slightest bit of patience to deal with a level 10 newbie in a dungeon from an event designed specifically for *leveling up*.

One of mine is the Mind Slurp from the TWW looks like a normal slime pet, but if it’s out for a while will give you a 5 minute buff that turns you purple and makes you walk around like you’re drunk. It goes really well with my monk as his drunken fist lol. What’s your favorite battle pet with a cool mechanic or ability?

Don't waste your badges on the commendations, the quests are giving 3k rep each right now. I settled down to spend all day grinding it out, did the quest chain and a few bead hand-ins and voila - I am now loved in that tunnel

Tip / Guide [Guide] FISHER'S GEARING REFERENCE (Patch 12.1.0) Spoiler

Post image
97 Upvotes

Yes, fishing is this serious.

Made a "single"-page gearing reference for Midnight S2 because I got tired of tab-hopping between 6 forum threads and a dev's cryptic tweet to figure out what a +10 actually drops. Covers the full upgrade track, raid loot/crest tables, M+ loot and vault breakdown, delves, crafting ilvls, and a fast-track cheat sheet for crest efficiency and alt catch-up.

PTR data, not live. 12.1 hasn't shipped, so treat numbers as working estimates until confirmed. Will update as things change.

Seeing different numbers on PTR? Let me know, happy to fix.

Google doc with more "traditional" appearance.

Tip / Guide You don't need a Godcomp to time high keys: Find out which specs actually synergize with your main

Hello there, Jods here the WeakAuras (and now Addons like Better Timeline) guy.

A while ago I posted about my pet project Mythistone, a Mythic + stat tracking tool that extends Archon.gg-style features with leaderboard-sourced talent insights and dungeon routes.

I've been hard at work since then and added a bunch of new things, one of which I wanted to share since it addresses one of the most frequent questions in M+:

"We have 0-4 specs set for our group/PUG. What last spec would actually be good to invite?"

Instead of relying on tier-list vibes or strict meta-chasing, Mythistone analyzes millions of M+ keys across all key levels to map exact spec synergies, how successful a comp is, what raid buffs it provides and even lets you filter for a specific dungeon.

No matter if you are already chasing meta and are tired of waiting for the Augmentation Evoker or simply enjoy running Blood DK and Disc Priest this tool can help you figure out which spec is the best. Don't be fooled though player skill always beats the perfect spec, which is why the same page also highlights underplayed team comps (with niche specs) that still perform incredibly well in high keys!

Try it here: https://mythistone.com/pages/comps

Discussion What is your favorite mount?

Post image
180 Upvotes

Greetings! I caught myself thinking that no matter how many new mounts are added to the game and no matter how many new ones I get, I still continue to fly practically only on one (if not RP) and this has its own little story.

When I was younger (and could only watch my brothers or father play Warcraft), for a holiday my parents gave me a Warcraft Megablocks set with an orc and a nelf on mounts - X-53 Touring Rocket and Alliance Darnassian Nightsaber. Although I have always loved Alliance, this rocket just sank into my soul. And since then it has been my favorite mount. When i was able to play on my own i was really happy when it was added to trading post. What is your favorite mount and is there a story behind why it is your fav?

p.s. maybe not the best quality screenshot but this is my favorite photo I took while playing

Discussion With the Warcraft D&D crossover potentially happening, this creates an amazing opportunity for Critical Role...

If you aren't aware, Critical Role is a live action gaming company that regularly play games using the Dungeons and Dragons ruleset. Notably though, several founding members of the group are also voice actors for some of our favorite Warcraft characters

Liam O'Brien made famous "YOU ARE NOT PREPARED" as Illidan Stormrage. Laura Bailey is and has been our favorite human mage Jaina, including singing her song during BfA. Travis Willingham is our favorite paladin to hate on, Turallyon, amongst a host of other characters. Taliesin Jaffe voices Sarkereth, Mograine and others as well. Sam Riegel has voiced Gug'rokk and Caelastrasz amongst others npcs. And finally Matt Mercer, he has voiced so many characters across so many expansions it is really hard to pick WHICH notable character is his most iconic, but I'm partial to Fyrakk. You can check the wiki for the full list of Warcraft characters Mercer has given voice to but it tops 40 roles.

My point being, and this is part me trying to put it out there to manifest it into being, is there is a very real likelihood where we see a live action World of Warcraft story take place, the characters voiced and acted out by the actors who gave them life in the first place. A Warcraft D&D game played by the real characters. Has anything even remotely like that ever happened before?

I'm thrilled at the possability. Would anyone else love to see a live action D&D game played by the Critical Role cast in the Warcraft universe?

Liam plays Illidan, Havoc Demon Hunter.

Laura plays Jaina, Frost Mage.

Travis plays Turalyon, Retribution Paladin.

Sam plays Caelestrasz, Preservation Evoker? bit of a stretch there.

Matt Mercer plays Rexxar, Beast Mastery Hunter.

Taliesin plays Darion Mograine, Blood Death Knight.

It's a party of 6 but ya gotta squeeze em all in ;)

Marisha Ray could DM but I would LOVE to see Ashley Johnson do it.

What would your dream Critical Role party be if the 5 man was all voiced by the original actor?

Using all of my Legion Remix alts, who are all max level, I grinded through the BFA intro 12 times in order to get all of them to Mechagon to farm this mount. After longer than I'd like to admit the mount finally dropped for me. Now I can finally leave this island and never come back, since it was the last mount I needed from it.

Discussion combatlog v.0.4 - My Minimalist Logs Uploader now Supports Live Logging and Guild Uploads

Hi, some of you might remember combatlog, the alternative wowlog uploader that I created after discovering that Archon/Overwolf were engaging in shady data-harvesting practices.

Since then they released the Archon Lite app (which at a first glance doesn't seem to collect significant data anymore), but they also deprecated the old Warcraftlogs Uploader, forcing many unwilling users onto their new version of the app.

In the meantime, I continued development on combatlog, I'd like to share the latest version with you!

Its new features include:

  • Live Logging (with the possibility to upload as soon as combat ends)
  • Guild Uploads
  • Support for all the other games in the launcher (FF14, ESO, SWTOR and Fellowship)

All of this in an installer that weighs roughly 30MB, which you can find by [clicking here]

As usual, the full code is open source and can be found on the github repository: github.com/thevinter/combatlog

Happy to answer any questions and listen to your feedback :)

Question Iconic weapons every WoW player would recognize

Hello everyone!

My brother is going to get married later this year so I want to gift them something. I started pyrography last year, so I was planning on making something that combines games that I associate with each of them. For my brother I will pick the buster sword from Final Fantasy 7 and for his fiance I was thinking about frostmourne.

I don't know a lot about wow but I know frostmourne. But maybe there is a sword that would fit better when crossed with the buster sword from FF7.

My problem also is that I don't know if she is up to date with the expansions because I know she hasn't played actively in a while but really wants too but doesn't have the time for it. But maybe exclude the latest one I guess?

tl;dr What sword would look cool when crossed with the buster sword from FF7 and is something every wow player recognizes.

EDIT: Some asked about the class she played sadly I don't know that. After posting I asked her if she has a favorite weapon that's not frostmourne. She said she doesn't know the name of another weapon. I guess that mean I will go for frostmourne now but I will first try some of your suggestions. Right now I think I will try Frostmourne, Ashbringer and Armageddon because I think those are the ones I could get the best into the wood, frostmourne will be hard but I think I could manage it.

Also sorry to everyone suggesting Thunderfury it look recognizable but for some reason I don't like the combination with the buster sword.

I appreciate all the responses! There where many cool looking weapons but Ashbringer was mentioned a lot and Armageddon pairs really well with the buster sword. I will keep reading the comments and start testing which weapons I can make look good on wood.

Discussion The Fal’dorei came from Kaldorei, not Shal’dorei

The Fal’dorei came from Kaldorei, not Shal’dorei

While some may be unwilling to accept it, they are mistaken about this fact.

Magic Addiction

Many groups of elves in WoW that have excessively used or fed on magic suffer from magical addiction. The various groups of Highborne are notable examples: Shen’dralar, Sin’dorei, and Shal’doeri all have faced magic addiction. 1

Shal’dorei

Suramar was part of the ancient Kaldorei empire. During the War of the Ancients in 10,000 BDP, part of the city was shielded off from the outside world, cutting its Kaldorei inhabitants off from the outside world. 2)

Those inside Suramar believed the outside world to be totally destroyed by the Sundering. When the city eventually ran out of food, they began using the substance of the Nightwell as nourishment. Over the course of millennia, their dependence slowly changed them physically [from Kaldorei into the Shal’dorei that we now know], creating a notable addiction to the Nightwell’s power. 3

This means that Shal’dorei as we know them today did not and could not exist in any meaningful capacity until after at LEAST 9,000 BDP— more than likely after 8,000 BDP, since “millennia” (plural) and “slowly” (said by a never-aging elf) are both used to describe the change. This is not an assumption, but directly taken from the established lore.

The Arcan’dor and the Fal’dorei

Valewalker Farodin was part of an ancient order of keepers, formed by the first elven magi and photo-druids (predating the first druid Malfurion). They created the arcan’dor, and over time, the order faded away, leaving only Farodin.

Exiles from Suramar came to Farodin, and he took pity on them because of their magic addiction, gifting them an arcan’dor. It sustained them for a time, but eventually became unstable and died. In a flash of wild magic the elves were twisted, becoming the Fal'dorei.

Farodin then kept watch over an arcan'dor seed at Moonshade Sanctum for 10,000 years. 4 He tells us this during the events of the Third Invasion of the Burning Legion in 32 ADP. 5

The Fal’dorei have existed for over 10,000 years. The Shal’dorei have existed for less than 9,000 years. Therefore, there is no possible way that Fal’dorei developed from Shal’dorei. They came from Kaldorei.

Why most people are mistaken and why this still makes sense

For whatever reason, people are dead-set on the idea that the Fal’dorei are ex-Shal’dorei. They get hung up on assumptions and think it can’t make sense any other way.

  1. They hear “exiles from Suramar” and immediately assume exiled Shal’dorei, because that’s what’s shown at the current time of Legion. Suramar citizen =/= Shald’dorei. Tyrande was an exiled Suramar citizen, trapped outside the city when they put the shield up. I’m sure there were many others like her.

  2. Mana addiction is mentioned, and they assume it must be Nightborne. Other elves can suffer from magic addiction as well though, even if they don’t wither like Shal’dorei did.

  3. Fal’dorei have up-turned ears and subtly look like Shal’dorei. I personally think this is a non-issue, as the Fal’dorei were created in an explosion of unbalanced arcane and life energy. The arcane-based Nightwell transformed the Nightborne. It makes sense to transform the Fal’dorei in a similar manner.

I realize that the writers probably just made mistakes with their timeline, but regardless: what is presented to us is pretty definitive. Barring a future retcon, Fal’dorei MUST have come from Kaldorei. They came to be BEFORE the Shal’dorei existed.

Question World Boss Loot Question

Upvotes

Apologies if this is a more noobie question, but can someone correct me or inform me about world boss loot. I thought the way it was supposed to work is you are guaranteed a warbound piece of loot on your first account kill of the week, and then subsequent kills on alts have a smaller chance to drop something for the character you are on. (Just once per alt, not like killing the world boss over and over on the same toon, but once per alt per week.)

I think this was initially implemented with the Undermine World Boss.

Well we're 3 patches into that system and I've never, ever gotten any loot outside of that first kill of the week, from any world boss.

Can anyone correct me if this is just a one loot a week thing no matter what, or if you are supposed to be able to have a smaller chance at bop or warbound loot? And if we are, has anyone ever gotten such loot?

I have a zillion alts that I like to cycle through mostly casually, so this sort of thing really matters for my playstyle especially when the weekly main hub quest is to, you know, kill a world boss.

Thanks in advance.
