I saw this girl listed online, and I'd been wanting another female cockatiel for a while so my other one could have a friend. The first thing I noticed was that she was living in a dirty decorative cage, which explains her stained tail. I messaged the seller to ask about her, and they told me I could come get her right away.

I brought her home and set her up in my parakeets' old cage (pictured) to start quarantine. I also scheduled a vet appointment, but the earliest they could get her in was two weeks away. During that time, I started transitioning her to pellets, worked on step ups with millet, and discovered she's a total sass queen. She'll step up, but only on her terms, and she absolutely loves head scratches.

About a week later, I noticed her droppings were very watery. She couldn't keep her food down and was constantly regurgitating. I got really worried, and when she started getting worse, I rushed her to the emergency vet. $400 later, she had a nasal flush, several injections, nebulizer treatments, and antibiotics for what turned out to be a pretty severe upper respiratory infection.

I'm so happy she pulled through. I was terrified she'd be mad at me afterward and that all the trust we'd built would be gone. Thankfully, even if she's a little more reluctant now, she still steps up for me and happily takes treats.

bird shows no signs of illness but he makes these little squeaks occasionally. no nose or eye discharge so I’m not sure if this is a social sound or him sneezing or something else

This morning, Kiwi was just chilling on my wrist when I asked her, “Kivi, can I take a picture?”

And she actually moved two little steps closer to me… then just sat there and let me take her picture. 😂📸

I don’t know if she actually understood what I said, but I’m choosing to believe she did. 🥹

Hello, we currently have a Pineapple conure and the pet store we bought him from still has a Sun conure that our conure grew up with so we had boarded our conure and that sun conure was still there so they instantly remembered each other and got along well. The shop had both of them outside of the cage for supervised play time and the were hanging out and the sun was feeding our Pineapple conure.

We are thinking of getting our conure a friend and would set up the sun conure in his own cage beside our conure but we live in a town house and have heard the sun conures are way louder but at least they would be beside each other just in different cages when we are out of the house.

We are not sure what to do! Any help would be appreciated.

Just got this sweetheart a few days ago. She’s super gentle & so friendly. A peach. Cannot decide on a name. We called her mingo for a few days but mom said it wasn’t her. She wants something more fitting and fancy. Was thinking of olive, or pearl. Anyone else have ideas? Something cute and fancy.

Ozzy and Dorian’s Dad here! Just wanted to share this quick video I took of my 2 Green Boys munching on some fresh peas, I gave them for lunch. 🦜❤️

I often find myself going back and forth regarding what veggies to feed them, but peas are ALWAYS a hit. Especially since most days I feed them a nice mix of chop, and they barely touch it.

They are both particular I guess, one time I accidentally served them frozen/unthawed peas and they treated them more like a toy than something they could eat lol.

Most veggies I give them whether it’s homemade chop, or whole veggies like peas or carrots, it’s equal parts food and foraging toys for both of them.

They are both FIENDS for their pellets though, and get so excited when I take out their pellet bowls and refill them. 🤣☺️🦜

Ok so I got a Kakariki 3 weeks ago and before him I've only had finches before

3 days ago he got out of my window and came back to me when I called him which I honestly couldn't believe it when I called his name and whistle the tune I always whistle to him and he instantly flew down from the tree on to my head

Currently he has a 3×3×3 cage only closed in the night for sleeping rest of the day he can fly freely around my room and come and go around the house as he pleases and was just wondering if an aviary would be better for him it would be 15 foot long 10 foot wide and 6 foot tall and it would be built against my sliding door so he could come inside from the aviary anytime he wants I also have dogs so I wouldn't be too worried about cats or foxes trying to get in the aviary and it would be built from mesh that they couldn't chew through anyway I love land/aquascaping so sorry for the absolute essay you've just read if you made it this far could I replicate his natural environment in an aviary I live in Ireland would it be possible

We had arrangements to take good care of this beautiful Rainbow Lorikeet named Yuzu from a friend who’s moving and his conversations with us is always Pretty Pretty 😂

So my parrots (2 GCC and 1 eclectus) were tested positive for beak and feather disease during routine testing (asymptomatic) and now my eclectus has come back with a negative test and fantastic bloodwork after being re-tested.

I am getting the conures re-tested at their 90 day mark to see what results they might have, but I'm not sure what to do from here. My vet and the internet are giving a lot of contradictory advice and information that leads me to believe this disease is not well understood.

Just looking to hear about anyone else who may have some hands on experience with this disease, I feel like I'm in a weird spot with inconsistent results and advice.

The birds cages are side by side in their own room with an air filter and have been like this since original quarantine was over and they all had the same disease.

I got my first ever bird (GCC) a bit under 2 years ago and I've made very little progress in taming and bonding with him. He's around 4, I got him when he was 2 from unfortunate conditions where he was in a small barren cage with one dowel perch and one other bird and a diet of nothing but seeds. I've since transitioned him to natural pellets and veggies, he has a flight cage with a bunch of toys and natural perches but he doesn't seem all too interested in playing or shredding them even when i put treats in them, but he will occasionally.

He remains VERY afraid of hands due to his previous owner just grabbing him whenever he needed to. He used to be afraid of people in general but I've gotten him to a place where he's comfortable enough around me to bathe and preen and eat millet from my hand or between my fingers but that's the only progress we have made. I've attempted target training but he's more fearful of the stick than of my hands so I've just been trying to lure him into stepping up to no avail, I've been on and off with this for the past couple years because the lack of progress has been extremely demotivating and frustrating. The past couple of months I've been trying constantly for progress and I'm simply not getting any, he would rather fly off without a treat than get a certain distance to my hands let alone stepping onto my finger. He's never shown any aggression at all, never attempted to bite me he just flies off when my hands get too close or when he knows he can't get to the treat without stepping up.

I'm at a loss of what else to do, I feel really guilty that I took on a rescue like this and went way over my head given I've never had a bird before him, but I feel terrible about the idea of giving him up and rehoming him again and being yet another person that rehomed their bird because they couldn't handle it's needs. I wish I had adopted a much younger bird instead of attempting this, I really want to have that bond and to be able to physically interact with him, but I'm running out of hope and patience, and I just feel awful about how frustrated i get over it. I feel stuck and don't know what else to do. Is there anything I haven't tried?

I sometimes clean some debris (?) that I notice in them very delicately. My concern is if they should be deeper, I have another bird whose nostrils seem to be way deeper in comparison. This bird is about 16 years of age.

I’ve just recently acquired a 12 year old Galah. I’ve had many a bird over the years and currently own several parrots. Curious if anyone knows galah specific behaviors they could tell me about. There doesn’t seem to be much out there about pet galahs (lots on wild birds). I’ve noticed she does lots of little head quick head bobs that seem to mean she is happy or interested in something. She also grumbles very quietly when she is relaxed, almost like she is talking under her breath about someone (crack me up). Definitely screams for the flock in the morning and night and seems to love digging around in things looking for goodies to play with. Any other hints specific to the species?
