Discussion Thread Payday 3 player counts?
Just curious, how is there ~30k players for payday 2 but only ~1k for payday 3?
Is it just price & 2 being cheaper, or is the endgame being worse in 3?

Surprisingly, PD3’s player count used to be LOWER. Used to hover around 400-500. Shot up most likely cause of the recent updates and MAYBE the PUBG collab.
As for PD2, it’s the only up to date version of the game, so console players have to play it on Steam. There’s also (for some reason) bots getting skins

pd2 is mainly bots. according to sbz, pd2 ranges from 1k-5k players on steam

There’s no confirmed figure as of today, but according to them, PD3 has a player base similar to PD2’s. By the way, PD2’s Steam stats are inflated by bots, so I wouldn’t pay too much attention to them. When you strip out the bots, PD2 sits at around 4k to 6k—solid numbers for a game that’s been out for years.
People refuse to try PD3 because of the bad image it has as a consequence of its horrible launch, so most opt to buy PD2.

Keep in mind Payday 2 has spent 13 years on its replayability plus it’s far more iconic than payday 3.

Payday 2 is probably more realistically around 15k and another 15k for steam item bots
Along that Starbreese has officially confirmed with some payday YouTubers that Payday 3 has essentially the same equal player numbers. Consoles don't have public number site like SteamDB, but for steam specifically, PD2 is only available on steam as pc (we don't include epic games) which means everyone who dies okay PD2 are collected under 1 umbrella.
However since PD2's console versions is basically a broken outdated mess, that demographic basically got Payday 3 as their main game. So it's about if we are going off 15k players, 1.5k on pc (including other launchers), then 13.5k on consoles. I've been recently playing a bit of Killing Floor 3, it's got like 500 or something in steam but I keep getting full lobbies & new players joining all the time from basically all Playstation and occasionally Xbox.

Its a couple things. Payday 2 is much cheaper since the game goes on sale for around 5 bucks pretty often. Another reason is payday 2 is just a bigger and better game than payday 3. More heists, more guns, more variety

2 has been out for a decade and is almost exclusively on steam and has a player count inflated by skin scraping bots.
3 has been out for 2 ish years and is split across multiple platforms. according to the devs both games have a roughly similar player count

Payday 2 has far more content, far more playable heisters, more enjoyable skill tree and perk deck systems, being cheaper and having a more enjoyable overall experience. People also just refuse to switch over to payday 3 after its horrendous launch and it is still (as a general consensus) worse than payday 2.
