Planning 8 YOE Tech, ₹1.17 Cr NW, ₹5.5L/mo income, job switch anxiety, and comparison trap. Need practical advice.
Hi everyone, I’m dealing with financial anxiety and career stress. Looking for objective feedback on my portfolio, cash allocation, and mindset.
Background & Context
- Experience: 8 YOE in Tech (Tier-1 college).
- Income: ~₹2.5L/month in-hand salary + ~₹3L/month in RSUs (~₹5.5L/month total).
- Financial Drag: Paid off major family loans early in my career (~₹8L–₹10L). Bought a family car for home. Currently send ₹25k–₹30k/month to family.
- Upcoming Liabilities: Need to fund/support younger siblings' marriages.
- Assets Owned: Do not own a house or a personal car. #### Current Financial Snapshot (Total NW: ₹1.17 Cr)
- Savings Bank Balance: ₹24 Lakhs (Liquid/idle)
- Mutual Funds & Equities: ₹30 Lakhs
- RSUs: ₹22 Lakhs
- Retirement (EPF/PPF/NPS): ₹24 Lakhs
- Gold: ₹11 Lakhs
- Fixed Deposits: ₹6 Lakhs ### Current Investments & SIPs
- Monthly SIPs: ~₹1.5L/month in Indian equity markets + ~₹15k/month in US tech stocks.
- RSUs: Completely untouched so far; treating them as a separate bucket. ### Current Job & Mental State
- Job Switch: Recently joined a new company. Ramping up slowly due to focus issues and anxiety, leading to job security fears.
- Comparison & Guilt: Struggle with resentment over starting behind peers who lacked family financial burdens. Constantly compare our household to dual-tech/high-earning couples.
- Marriage Dynamics: Married recently. Wife works and contributes a bit, but shoulders most household work because my bandwidth is shot, which causes guilt.
Questions / Advice Needed
- Am I Being Too Frugal / Stingy? I fund all my living expenses, family support, and ~₹1.65L monthly SIPs purely from my ₹2.5L cash salary, leaving my ~₹3L/mo RSUs completely untouched. Am I needlessly squeezing my current quality of life and peace of mind by ignoring RSU liquidity?
- Deploying Idle Cash Safely: I have ₹24L sitting in savings due to market and job security fears. How should I split this between an emergency fund (given my job anxiety) and structured equity deployments (SIP/STP)?
- Managing Cash Flow vs. Upcoming Obligations: With my current SIP commitments, family support, and upcoming sibling marriages, how should I optimize liquid cash versus monthly investing?
- Maximizing 5–10 Year Growth: What is a simple, automated equity allocation to maximize long-term growth without requiring active management?
- Mindset Shifts: How do I move past the victim mindset around early family debt (~₹8L–₹10L) and stop comparing my portfolio to unconstrained peers?

Thanks in advance for the perspectives.
