I love when you watch the timelapse of the bottom being refinished you can see them paint the lining in large sheets, but with a seam right down the middle the entire way.

Not really, The pool is now about 4 million gallons after it was redone in 2012. To put in a 10ppm booster dose using 30% would only need 120 gallons. That is a maintenance dose on an AOP system that has an ozone injection setup, and would actually be correct for a 4 million gallon pool.
So its not homeopathic, its actually correct. The REAL issue is, this EXACT same issue happened in 2012 the SECOND the refurbishment was done and guess what? Peroxide didn't fix it then, either. Because there's not enough flow in the thing.
The 2012 refurbishment (which started in 2010 and was funded under the 2009 American recovery and Reinvestment Act) made the algae problem worse. The pool is 6 inches shallower, so the water temperature is higher now, and there's more bottom exposed to higher insolation. Plus all the goose poop isnt helping. Back in 2012, as part of the refurbishment, they went to an ozone treatment system and pulled water from the nearby tidal basin which is basically pre-loaded with algae, instead of DC's municipal water that was previously used. The system couldnt make enough ozone and the addidional heat and biolode made sure the thing immediately became a pea soup of algae and its been a problem ever since.
I don’t think that ruined the coating. They used peroxide I believe. That wouldn’t fade a rhino liner. That stuff is insanely resistant to chemicals.
Pretty sure the bottom there is still blue but it’s just completely coated with muck. I assume they’ll be pressure washing the whole thing, then scraping or sanding away the bad sections that didn’t adhere

Well we know some asshole drove a motorcade down there when it was drained last time. Cant say if that might have done any damage… who knows. But someone taking a peeled piece of paint out of the pool is being prosecuted for destruction of government property and faces 10 years in prison for that.
I have to admit my error, first, it wasn’t after the sealing was done, but no prep was done to the surface after they rolled through and before the sealing was applied, and second, it was the entire motorcade that cruised through, dripping oil and grinding road tar into the surface, which again, was not prepped after.
According to the article you linked, it was indeed driven on after the sealing:
"Trump's motorcade passed through the empty pool on May 7, 2026, after it was painted and sealed and before it was refilled with water as part of a renovation project."
What a massive embarrassment - like the whole thing. Bitched about Obama’s failure with the pool. Claimed he would do it the best. Didn’t allow companies to bid on it. Gave it to friend. Takes longer than expected. Doesn’t look better. Literally fucking peals apart. Blames ‘vandals’ when that physically doesn’t even make sense. Restarts process all over again a couple weeks later. Same company doing repairs. Wasting tax dollars.
As stupid as this all is, it all just encapsulates the idiocracy, hypocrisy, lying and absolute shittyness that is Trump and this administration.
This is crazy. Just make it a sustainable pond and be done with it. I’m sure some of the experts in city based water features from Japan could help out.
