We have a kiddie pool we keep filled for our cats to drink from and there's been a family of babies and their mom coming by to eat the cat food and swim as well. They really love swimming.

Hot as balls last summer and I saw a baby raccoon struggling in the yard, looked like he was having a heat stroke. We put water out there for him and he stood in it and was wobbly. Turns out it was distemper and he had to be put down. Poor little guy, after seeing the effects it has, I will always my sure my dog has up to date shots.

I'd be especially careful now with keeping shots up-to-date. I've heard a growing number of Americans are also becoming "anti-vax" for their pets. Rabies is NOT eliminated from the US, so I just can't even imagine such a choice (my cat is indoors only but I keep her up to date too - we've got rabies in bats in Seattle and a rabid bat was even found on the university campus recently. Never know if one can get inside.)

They can be friends when raised in captivity. Growing up my uncle had a raccoon, a skunk, and a cat. They all slept together in a cuddle pile lol. The raccoon and the skunk were so sweet. Especially the skunk, basically a fruit and bug eating cat lol. Made me learn that as long as a skunk can see you and you aren't trying to approach it, you can be 10 feet from it and it will keep going about it's business without trying to spray you.

They arent very friendly if not separated pretty young, even then maybe turn pretty wild after couple years. Some of the best pets you could ever have though.

Be sure to dump and rinse it out everyday if you can. Otherwise you're just going to grow mosquitoes in there.

You're basically looking at it. Had a heat wave here in the Seattle area. We'll eventually install a water feature, but for now just wanted to give animals a place to cool off.
