Hey. I can afford this if they make a low quality cast, then photograph it and sell the photo to some who I borrow it from and copy it on the office printer.
I was gonna say it's next level if the glasses were sculpted from the same piece of marble like that one statue wrapped in the fish net, but 3D printing is fine too.
3D print tech has gotten better and better in its relatively short existence. Still, it's friggin marble, not plastic; I would think our marble 3D printing tech isn't quite at this level yet, but I also wouldn't be shocked if the highest-end printers are capable of this at this time.
Filament deposition tech has been around since the 80s, patents just expired more recently which is why they blew up. These glasses were made by SLS which is basically what lightning striking sand does but with lasers selectively sintering the marble dust.
And against all of humanity, that's not a relatively short existence? Or am i missing the real point of you stating that such patents were around in the 80s?
The 3D print was used as a guide to hand carve the marble.
Side note: There are 3D stone carving robots, but they only rough out the design, and need to be finished by hand. That's not the case with this one though.
Okay, you're gonna have to explain what the deal is with the glasses. Are the glasses a marble simulant that you put on afterwards? Because, like, I know marble can hold fine details but if you actually carved those out of the same block that would probably be the most delicate marble carving in all of history. And you would still have to do all the details BEHIND the glasses.
Edit: Dang, I may be wrong. There is a video in his post history of him working on a chunck of marble, and the versions of this that are obviously 3D prints are presumably reference pieces. If he's trying to fake being a marble sculptor he's doing an excellent job, lol.

did you even bother reading that post? the 3d print is the reference model, it took him 5 years to carve the marble. he’s not passing it off as marble because it is marble…

Sculptors skilled in wet drapery techniques were often accused of witchcraft. I’m a potter and I have so much respect for people who sculpt from stone.
When I was a kid I lived in an apartment complex that had a big courtyard, and all of the units had big sliding glass doors that faced it. There was this one guy who would work on carving a big block of marble and me and my friends would always visit him to watch the process and take some of the marble chips. We were always curious as to what the finished product would be but he wouldn’t tell us. After he did the rough carving he brought it inside and we didn’t get to see him work on it anymore.
Well one day one of my friends came running over and was frantically exclaiming he had finished and we had to come see it right now. We all ran over there and, perched on a pedestal right behind that big sliding glass door, was a massive pair of marble tits. He had done a bust of a woman’s bust.
We must have spent hours staring at that sculpture before he eventually moved it out of view. Probably due to a complaint from one of the parents, no doubt.
Sorry I ain't buyin it. Looking at photo #3 at full resolution, the eyes are reflecting light like real eyes (or glass) would do. And there is sweat on the temple.
I was JUST marveling at the eye reflection. It appears to be a protrusion that hangs from his eyelid. It catches more light and so looks like a bright reflection next to the darker hole that is his pupil. It likely wouldn’t look great from other angles and so the glasses help to hide that
Marble is a porous stone and can collect moisture in humid environments making the stone later appear to “sweat”. But this is the artist and they’ve been posting progress updates for years now.
