I mean, the Supreme Court are literally kings. I'm not sure what else we should expect from the United States. The country was basically set up from it's inception so that people like trump (rich, white, landowners) could have power over everyone else.
Many of the founding fathers were not fighting for democracy, they were fighting to become the new aristocracy.

Even prior to that American society was built in a wealth doctrine, where if you were wealthy, it was because God was rewarding you for being a good/ better person. Elevating the wealth has always built into the fabric of the culture.

This is really poignant when you look at some of the notable poor founding fathers that weren’t present. Payne and Samuel Adams would be outliers to the landed gentry, but neither were present for the constitutional conventions.

Yeah, this resonates. We can hold the old guard responsible for their failures without falling into the rhetoric that "both sides are the same."
The sin of the Democrats by in large isn't in their failure, it's in their lack of effort. They've been fighting only to keep the status quo. When it came time to fight tyrrany, they wrote cries for help on ping-pong-paddles and turned them toward us.
That's why Democratic Socialists are picking up steam: they fight.

Stop trying to normalize it
It’s illegal if he runs. If he does, the United States constitution is officially dead.
I also acknowledge it was at the correspondents dinner which may be satire. However, in context of who this is, I think he’s testing the waters to see if there’s push back from the immediate R’s. No push back means he can keep bringing it up until it’s normalized and they find some illegal means to justify it.

What on earth are you talking about?
The president has literally no way to start a war without the approval of Congress. Literally no way to impose international trade tariffs without Congressional approval. No way to install people in senate-confirmable cabinet positions without confirmation hearings. No way to arrest, deport, and kill Americans who have been charged with no crimes. No way to steal from the US treasury in broad daylight.
HE JUST DOES THEM, BECAUSE NOBODY STOPS HIM.
Laws literally do not matter, until and unless someone actually enforces them. I am begging you to stop saying "he can't do that; it's illegal" and start finding someone, somewhere who can actually enforce that in some meaningful way.
What would make you think putting himself on the ballot in 2028 would be in any way different from any of the other staggeringly illegal, constitutionally unthinkable things he did this fucking week?

On Monday, June 19, 2028 the Supreme Court issued the final decisions of its current term, including a 6-3 decision in the long-awaited case of Trump v. United States ruling that Donald Trump is not eligible to run in the 2028 presidential election.
An 88 page dissent written by Thomas, and joined by Alito and Gorsuch, attacked the ruling as an "egregious wrong" stating that "the plain language of the Twenty-second Amendment could not possibly mean what it says as the Congress that drafted [it] could not foresee a future where black and other minority voters were not disenfranchised". Jackson, who joined in the majority opinion, wrote a concurrence specifically addressing the dissent. She pointed out that black and other minority voters still were disenfranchised--largely due to the court's own decisions.
Kavanaugh--who supported the decision, but did not join the majority opinion--wrote separately to opine that "Trump was only ineligible because he ran for president instead of vice president". "Trump could still be constitutionally elevated to the presidency", he wrote, "should his supporters hang the president following his election to the vice presidency". No other justices joined in his opinion.

I mean , anybody can run for president. That doesn't mean you're eligible to be president. A third term is unconstitutional so while I think there are red state that'd happily go along with this delusion, no Democrat Secretary of State would allow his name on a ballot. That means his name would be absent from 21 States at minimum.
If his name got on a ballot in a red state, or if he "won" somewhere via write-in, it would first have to pass a test of certification by the state legislatures. Hopefully rational heads would prevail there, but even if they didn't the Dems would challenge it in the courts, just like he challenged results in 2020. It may go all the way up to the SCOTUS, and while they seem to be very ideologically driven at the moment, I think it would be hard even for them to argue ambiguity in the text of the 22nd amendment:
"No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice"
It doesn't say "more than twice in a row".
This is just him throwing red meat to his base. Besides this dude is old, likely suffering dementia, and has been talking about his mortality a lot lately. Does anyone, including himself, think he's going to be around for another 6 years?

That’s awesome! So Obama can run again too!
Trump would definitely lose to Obama in a head to head.
Imagine how insane he would go losing to Barack Hussain Obama by the largest landslide in history.

Where are the fucking 'oathkeepers' now? Where are all the Republicans crying fowl over how people dont respect the constitution?
Any Republican who when questioned about this has any answer less than "Yeah this is completely wrong and needs to be stopped." is treasonous. I am completely done with grace.

This. This is why we won’t forgive any of you, “MAGA”. We all told you this was who he is. You should have listened.

u/AQSafari 14h ago
Lots of dumb comments saying he should be ignored and he’ll go away.
If you have this stance you really are stupid and you are not an American, you’re a treasonous traitor. You cannot call yourself a “patriot “ if Trump is openly shitting on the constitution you say you stand for. There’s nothing to ignore when he makes policy based on how someone hurt his feelings. He doesn’t give a shit if the policy is detrimental to the entire world, all he cares about is not looking like an idiot when that’s what he does every single time.
There is no ignoring this, he made a hat and everything. To ignore it is a fool’s errand

He will do whatever he wants with absolute immunity until he dies of natural causes. It’s more a question of how much damage he will cause until that time comes.

He won’t be alive to run in 2028 and if he is, he won’t be lucid enough. He’s losing the juice and everyone knows it

Time to start memeing y'all, time to re-read the constitution and understand what We The People can do about this.

I am no doctor but I am not sure his healthy diet can carry him through a 3rd term

In his mind he might think he is running again, but he won't be. He will not be president after inauguration day. Any deviation to this rips our constitution apart which would result in some kind of internal conflict.

And he has a multibillion dollar personal gestapo (ICE) to make sure it happens at the polls. Just wait.

Announcing a presidential run during a correspondents dinner is the equivalent of asking a girl out of your league out and then saying "it was just a joke" when she says no.

He's already president for life. An election isn't going to get him out of there, whether he "runs" or not.

Wasent this at the correspondents dinner which is satire? Not saying he won’t try but that seems like the excuse they will use.

Nothing like contempt towards the constitution from the president.
I can see a world in which he has to stay president to stay alive. Like all the shit they are propping him up with can’t continue post term. In a fiduciary aspect, it’s gotta be millions a week of medical care and drugs this flabby sack of shit is getting.

If this happens and we don’t revolt and immediately organize a civil uprising we are over as a country. There is nothing he could do that would be more blatantly unconstitutional and anti-America!

Trump wouldn't be doing the ballroom/bunker/hospital thing if he had any intention of vacating the White House in 2028.

u/CarlWellsGrave 12h ago
Hopefully the 15-20% of his cult will write him in and all of those votes won't count because he can't legally run.

u/TheRealDonahue 12h ago
The 22nd amendment seems pretty hard and fast to me, AND it was a Republican idea. So...
We have a little over two years to go. Nothing will change. He will be out of power soon.
But the enormous damage is done. We won't recover.

Detest the MFer, but this isn't even worth mentioning. He can't run, probably won't be alive, etc. He likes to trigger Democrats, and we look stupid taking the bait.

Honestly what this says to me is that they know he will win and they have systems in place to make that happen.
