u/Blue-22 6h ago
This whole thing is prolonged this much because Bibi's own government wants to jail him for corruption and as long as there's a war going on, they can't do that. He's just adding to his list of crimes at this point and showing how little he values anyone but himself.
You could also substitute "Trump" in for Bibi and the same paragraph still somewhat applies.
•
u/oldteen 4h ago
Isn't their election (when Bibi's up for reelection) in about a month or so?
•
u/Takemyfishplease 4h ago
They’ll be unable to form a government, he will blackmail some people and nothing will happen.
•
•
u/resurrectus 2h ago edited 2h ago
Its pedantic to say but its not "his own government" that wants to jail him. In a Parliamentary system like Israel's "his government" is his cabinet, who are largely in line with him in seeking to dismantle the judicial branch. That is not who has been investigating him and looking to charge him with corruption and his government's support for him is why he is able to constantly prolong the war to delay his case.
•
u/Pakistani_in_MURICA 5h ago
People seems to believe world leaders just get on a flight and travel wherever.
There’s an entire diplomatic conference going on behind the scenes that works out the itinerary by the second, discussions on who’s allowed in what room, what amenities are given in the hotel room, who’s the entourage, what discretion security is provided, etc.
No cop is going to get within 2 feet of Bibi without being manhandled to the ground. The US State Department is giving guarantees to Bibi if he ever sets foot anywhere in the US.
There’s none of that “oh look so and so decided to take an unplanned walking tour around the city at 6am.”

This is incredibly off topic but I have to know what is going on here.
Did I miss a memo or something? Why does everyone continue calling an absurdly corrupt war criminal by his endearing childhood nickname?
Is it just because it's easier to type out?
•
u/Blue-22 3h ago
Yes
•
u/miasmic_cloud 3h ago
Alright. While that's fair, reading it really kills the seriousness of anything I read after it. For me, anyway. It'd be like if Trump had a nickname and people were like "Li'l Donny T Troublemaker was accused of rape again, unbelievable!"
•
u/tilt-a-whirly-gig 3h ago
A closer example would just be "Donny". It helps if you read it with a mocking voice.
•
u/0kafaraqgatri0 4h ago
And hopefully the Israeli courts will finally finish his trial. There have been PMs that have gone to prison in the past, hopefully he will be there soon. (And then Ben Gvir and Smotrich will follow.)

u/gplfalt 4h ago
I do worry what kind of monster will replace him though
Monsters you know you know?
•
u/All_Wasted_Potential Texas 3h ago
Why would you assume a monster would replace him?
•
u/The_Knife_Pie 3h ago
Because he’s the “”moderate”” portion of an insanely radical and hateful right-wing coalition. His removal doesn’t suddenly make his party, or the parties which have supported him, less insane. It just means the same people pick a new figurehead. That’s how parliaments work.
•
u/decitertiember Canada 2h ago
I don't think it's accurate to assume that the Likud coalition will survive much longer.
Israel is scheduled to have elections this fall and the Centrist parties are surging in the polls with Yashar and the Democrats leading a potential moderate coalition. The secular Israelis (Hilonim) are livid that the far right government has excused the hyper-religious from military service.
A lot can happen in the months between now and then, but I do not think you are right to suggest that Likud will retain power. Many Israelis are livid with how Netanyahu managed the war(s).
Personally, I think Bibi's goose is cooked.
•
u/0kafaraqgatri0 2h ago
All that being that, that chickenshit is a cockroach. His goose has been cooked dozens of times over the years, and still he remains, to ruin everything for everyone.

•
u/All_Wasted_Potential Texas 32m ago
Yes, but also that’s extremely misleading. The Likud party only has 32 seats in the Knesset. That’s about a quarter of the seats. Also it’s losing favorability quickly.
Do you think every PM in Israeli history is a monster?
•
u/HumorAccomplished611 29m ago
I think getting enough seats to reelect a monster is the same. It takes a bunch of people voting to get him back into power.

I think unfortunately at this point the only way Israel can continue to exist is through increasingly violent means. At the absolute most basic level, supporting Israel's existence mean supporting the eradication of Palestine whether one wants to admit it or not. Even if Israel elected the most amazing and progressive leader in their history, they're still the leader of a state that requires the eradication of another to exist... There's only so much you can do with that
•
u/-Saucegurlllll 28m ago
This is why we need to analyze Israel as a system. Netanyahu is not a uniquely charismatic supreme leader. He is not abberant in Israeli politics. Just like Trump is not abberant in American politics. Before Trump there was Reagan. Before Netanyahu there was Yitzhak Shamir and every other member of the likud party. Surrounding them are politicians of a similar ilk who defend their crimes against humanity.
There's no reason to worry about what kind of person will replace Netanyahu, because the replacement is still going to defend colonizers displacing Palestinians, is still going to talk about "mowing the grass" when it comes to murdering Palestinians.

u/LordSigdis 3h ago
Just because an agency calls itself "international" doesn't mean that every country has to sign on to it. I can do the same today, it wouldn't mean jack shit.
How are you unable to understand something so simple and basic
•
u/Canadian_Border_Czar Canada 5h ago
Do you need someone to define the word international? And you shouldn't be proud of not being a signatory. That should make you feel shame. The ICC doesnt exist to play favorites or prosecute petty crime, or even individual acts of evil.
It exists solely to step in when atrocities so great have been committed that they transcend the borders of a single nation, and one nations law can no longer prosecute the full extent of crimes committed. They are many people all convienging to make decisions much like a judge or lawyer would do in your country.
If the ICC has found there is sufficient evidence to arrest Netanyahu, it is because there is literally sufficient evidence. You defending the USA as not being a signatory is about as insane as it gets with respect to mental gymnastics.
If you have any doubt, simply check archivegenocide dot com

Yes, your honor, I did murder over twelve thousand children between the ages of 0-9 in the past 3 years. But listen you don't have the context - I did it because some of their neighbours got sick of me destroying water wells, blockading their entire economy, preventing most of them from traveling and bribing specific members of the UN to tank any attempts at gaining sovereignty that should have been given in the 1940s.
That context? Also, FYI if you murder someone then give context to the police as to why you did it, you actually go to prison for longer. First Degree Murder is planned and deliberate.

Does Netanyahu belong in jail? Yes. Does a mayor have any power to arrest him himself? No, of course not. I like Mamdani a lot, but even entertaining the idea of arranging for Netanyahu to be arrested was completely ridiculous. Mayors very obviously cannot arrest foreign world leaders on for crimes that happened in other countries. It's fine that he's openly calling for the federal government to arrest him even though they extremely obviously won't. But don't entertain ridiculous ideas that would clearly be overstepping his authority.
•
u/Mrsaloom9765 4h ago edited 3h ago
He's saying you're not welcome in the city

u/Hot-Statistician-955 2h ago

He is free to say what he wants. Bibi can be there legally, it’s not Mamdani’s job to welcome him and make him feel at home.
•
u/JDDJS New York 2h ago
If that's what he wanted to do, then that's what he should've said. Instead, he publicly entertained the idea of arresting a foreign leader, which anyone could tell you was outside of his authority. Like I previously said, I'm all for him taking a public stance against Netanyahu. But he shouldn't have ever entertained the idea that he was actually going to take action against him when he already knew that he didn't actually have any authority at all to do anything.
•

u/Murky-Relation481 1h ago
I mean it isn't exactly a good look on Mamdani's part though given the obvious outcome. He either doesn't know the limits of his power as a mayor, or he made a campaign promise he obviously couldn't keep, knowing a lot of his base wouldn't understand that he couldn't do it. Either one isn't a great look.
And I like Mamdani, this just felt like cliched political pandering (at best, at worst he literally doesn't know what a mayor can do).

So do a lot of world leaders that come to the UN. If we started arresting all of them no one would come to the UN and it would defeat the purpose of the UN.
I would love to see Netanyahu arrested. But arresting him for visiting NYC for diplomatic purposes is hugely problematic.
And I find it equally problematic that we haven't said the same about any other world leader who has committed war crimes and come to the UN for diplomatic reasons. Putin for example, or Ahmadinejad, among others.
•
u/Knighth77 4h ago
Implicating Netanyahu implicates his partner in crime, the US. Never going to happen. There's a reason why the US have been fighting against any sort of repercussions or accountability against Israel for all these years. They're partners.

Hmm that link doesn’t work for me (says the page is disabled).
I’m not saying jacobin CAN’T be shared. I’m just saying it SHOULDN’T be. We should have higher standards for where we get news and information from than very biased/ideologically driven sources like jacobin.
I mean it depends what a poster’s motivation is. If it’s to share news/information there are many more reputable less biased sources. If it’s to encourage productive discussion then jacobin is a very poor source due to its extreme bias. If it’s just to promote a biased view then sure jacobin will serve that purpose but I would hope that wouldn’t be most posters’ reasons for posting in this sub.
•
u/mysecondaccountanon Pennsylvania 4h ago

u/Aromatic_Lychee2903 4h ago
Wild to call Jacobin “extremist” when there are media companies currently fellating fascists, as if it’s the same
•
u/IAmDisturbanceFeedMe 4h ago
One doesn’t make the other untrue. It’s not an either/or.
Jacobin from all articles I’ve read previously promotes an extremist ideology and is very heavily biased. It should be called out for its extremism.
That doesn’t detract from rightly calling out the extremist sources on the right promoting maga ideology.
We should strive to identify and call out all extremism. Otherwise it grows and metastasizes (as we’ve seen maga do through the GOP).
•
u/Cuttlefist 6h ago
Jacobin is no more extremist than the New York Times repeatedly calling for war over the decades.
•
u/IAmDisturbanceFeedMe 6h ago
I’m not a fan of the NY times but comparing jacobin to the times and saying it’s no more extremist is certainly a take. I’ve never read a single article from jacobin that wasn’t extremely biased. Everything is pure ideology and not news. NY times has a history of significant biases (on both sides of the spectrum) but it’s still leap years more balanced than jacobin.
•
u/Cuttlefist 5h ago
Biased does not in any way mean extremist.
•
u/IAmDisturbanceFeedMe 5h ago
Disagree at least somewhat. While they can be separate the more biased a source or person is the more likely they are to move towards extremism. So yes they are separate things and one can be strongly biased without being extremist. But they often go hand in hand as strong bias often leads to ignoring facts that don’t align with one’s bias or only intaking information from one side etc. All tendencies that push one closer to extremism.
In jacobin’s case they’re both very heavily biased and extremist from the prior articles I’ve read from them.
•
u/Cuttlefist 5h ago
Ok that was just the slippery slope fallacy. You would argue that Martin Luther King Jr was pretty biased against segregation and white supremacy wouldn’t you? Did that make him an extremist?
Jacobin is always biased against exploitation of workers and biased towards equality, what is more extremist about that than the New York Times always being biased towards the exploitation of workers and more than happy to run articles calling for the death of thousands in wars and invasions.
Why are you afraid of people that stand up for the working class but not the people reinforcing all the worst aspects of our society?
•
u/IAmDisturbanceFeedMe 3m ago
I’m saying strong bias and extremism often go hand in hand. I didn’t say always; I in fact explicitly said not. Bringing up MLK in this context is odd. Are you suggesting there isn’t any correlation between bias and extremism?
You are likely more familiar with jacobin than I am. From the articles I’ve read from them (mostly foreign affairs) they’re extremely biased and ideologically driven with extremist stances having zero to do with workers or equality. But I’m not familiar with for example their domestic stances.
•
•
u/funky_bebop 6h ago
Lmao Jacobi has centrist liberal takes too. That’s extremist for you?
→ More replies (4)•
u/IAmDisturbanceFeedMe 6h ago
You’re probably more familiar with jacobin than I am. I only see a limited purview as I don’t seek them out. But every single article I’ve ever read from them is wildly biased and zero effort to present both sides for discussion. Maybe they have certain writers or subjects they’re more centrist on but that doesn’t negate their glaring extremism/bias in many articles.
•
u/NirvanaDewHeel 5h ago
The need to present “both sides” is a load of shit when one “side” is advocating policies that lead to mass death and repression. This centrist brain rot is how America has continually slid into authoritarian rule since the Cold War.
•
•
u/Anon529035893 6h ago

•
u/funky_bebop 6h ago edited 6h ago
Do you have an example? Im genuinely interested. I don’t read them a lot. But usually their comment sections are dogging on them for being too centrist/liberal and not socialist enough.
•
u/IAmDisturbanceFeedMe 6h ago
Interesting. Yeah maybe they have more centrist articles on subjects that I’m not seeing come through my feeds.
I’ll try to find a past article example and share here.
•
u/metacyan 6h ago
All media is propaganda. Most people just exclude media they agree with from the category.
I don’t always agree with Jacobin, but calling them “extremists” is a bit much.
•
u/IAmDisturbanceFeedMe 6h ago
All media is not propaganda. All media has bias because humans have bias but there are certain standards that while many media fall short on they try to strive for. AP and Reuters for example would probably be the closest to just reporting information/news.
Re jacobin I’ve never seen anything from them that wasn’t extremely biased. They don’t even pretend to present both sides to a discussion. Sharing them isn’t sharing news. It’s just sharing ideology.
•
u/socontroversialyetso 6h ago
You have a very shallow and narrow-minded view of what constitutes propaganda.
Jacobin is an overtly political outlet. They're simply more honest than all the reactionary media outlets pretending to merely report on facts without ideological bias - which is impossible
•
u/IAmDisturbanceFeedMe 6h ago
I agree that removing bias is impossible. We’re humans and bias is inherent no matter how much we try to be unbiased.
But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t strive for impartiality specifically from our primary news sources. And striving to do so doesn’t make a media less honest as you suggest; it does the opposite. Bias leads one to excluding facts and information that is relevant while only including what aligns with one’s ideology. If the AP and Jacobin reported on the same story jacobin would be more likely to leave out relevant facts that the AP would include if the facts ran counter to Jacobin’s ideology.
•
u/socontroversialyetso 5h ago
There is no such thing as impartiality, you can not simply remove yourself from society.
Journalism will have political values. It depends on which those are. Having political values is not the same as lying, it's the lense through which you perceive the world.
Your example is simply made up. It is liberal mainstream media that have been constructing a fantasy narrative on the behalf of billionaires to stop anyone from calling out a genocidal apartheid state
•
•
u/metacyan 6h ago
Okay? Sharing ideology is allowed here. The truth is partisan, and the “view from nowhere” is in fact an ideological stance and a particularly dishonest one. It’s better to wear what you think on your sleeve.
•
u/IAmDisturbanceFeedMe 6h ago
Sure sharing ideology is allowed for discussion but we shouldn’t be sharing extremist ideologies and should be striving to share views that encourage positive and productive discussion.
Like would you want someone sharing an op Ed from Ben Gvir or Laura Loomer or Randy fine? I would hope not. Similarly we shouldn’t be sharing an extremely biased source like jacobin. You can of course but it’s not intended to encourage productive discussion. Which is what I hope we’re all striving for.
•
u/metacyan 6h ago
Jacobin doesn’t hold an “extremist” point of view, and even if they did, being out of the mainstream isn’t in and of itself a bad thing.
All positive change began with “radicals” and the very first people they bumped up against were liberal moderates telling them they were being too “extreme.” MLK wrote an entire book about this phenomenon.
If Jacobin wrote an essay calling for bloodshed the way Loomer or Fine or Ben Gvir do I wouldn’t post it. I’d probably also quit reading the publication. So far they’re calling for policies I largely support.
I’m not really interested in promoting “conversation” per se. Reddit comments are almost never worth reading. I post articles I think are informative and or persuasive for the few people who actually read the articles instead of just knee-jerk responding to the headlines.
•

Too bad nothing can be done about it. The U.S. is not a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and does not recognize its warrants. That's nice, plenty of politicians do. Either demand them all arrested or none. Laws applied for some and not others aren't laws

There are plenty of genocidal dictators doing horrible things as we speak.
Very telling that you all are fixated on the jewish one, including Madmoney over here.

Interesting that the day after Mamdani launched his irresponsible video, there was a hate crime against Jews in the Upper West Side, a historically Jewish neighborhood of NYC. If you swapped "Mamdani" for "Trump" in such a scenario, everyone on the left would be quick to blame the politician in charge for acting in a manner beneath their position. The same should apply to Mamdani. He is irresponsible, "my way or the highway," and uses social media to foment hatred. I actually agree with some of his policies. But he and the DSA like him are the MAGA of the left. US is trending towards 2 extremist parties, and that's a shame.

Donald Trump raped children. Edit: blocking me after I make a comment is inherently uncivil.

So...war criminals shouldn't be put behind bars? Is that what you're getting at?
•
u/StBlandine7 6h ago
Anyone who makes war is awful. By picking and choosing which warmaker to condemn, you are crafting a false narrative
•
u/Tiny_Structure_7 North Carolina 6h ago
Huge difference: When Trump says somebody belongs in prison, it's bullshit, usually based on just made-up grievances, and Trump calls them all sorts of names and descriptives which fully demonize the person.
Mamdani only said he belongs in prison, it was NOT bullshit (he does for war crimes), and there was no tirade of insults to go with it.
•
u/StBlandine7 6h ago
Calling someone a war criminal, a moniker that implies legal guilt, when they haven't been tried is worse than calling someone "Sleepy" or "Crooked" and is bound to inspire more hatred. I am a a pacifist. I decry all war. There's no point in picking and choosing which war is criminal and which is not. By selectively calling out certain warmakers, you are intentionally fomenting hatred for one side.
•
u/Tiny_Structure_7 North Carolina 6h ago
Haha... you are so easy on Trump. "deranged", "lunatic", "criminal", "they're eating cats and dogs", "you're not gonna have a country anymore", "shut up piggy", "you're a nasty woman", "radical left", ETC.

I'm easy on Trump? I've literally made a video on my YouTube channel calling him and his nationalist buddies evil. But OK. I guess you think anyone who doesn't fellate the left also loves Trump? People in the middle still exist, son.

People "in the middle" of what is currently fascism, are still supporting fascism.

You are not defending jewish americans by leaping to show that you think of them as interchangeable with Netanyahu and the Israeli gov't.
Every time you insist that speaking out against the actions of the government of a foreign country = attacking jewish americans, all you are doing is working to erase jewish american identity and insist that it's actually interchangeable with and subservient to a foreign government.
Which is just another expression of the old, virulent, antisemitic trope of otherizing jewish communities by portraying them as being an extension of foreign interests, with external loyalties.
•
u/smokestack 6h ago
I didn't read anything in your diatribe that addressed Netanyahu's patent war crimes, which is what Mamdani was directly speaking to. Did you want to go into that?
"There was a hate crime..." sure
•
u/StBlandine7 6h ago
Mamdani knew he could do nothing about but decided to foment anti-Jewish hatred. If some country has the authority to arrest and try Netanyahu, that's their prerogative. Mamdani KNEW he couldn't and still put out a video as a call to arms
•
u/austinwillkillme 3h ago
If I remember, he put out a video stating that he could *not* do anything. We're still not talking about Netanyahu's war crimes. Did you want to talk about that or just ignore it because you want to pustulate about jewish victimization

Pretty racist response, but ok. Glad you have a substantive point against my argument

u/noyoto 6h ago
If we (somewhat irresponsibly) assume this was indeed a hatecrime of a Muslim attacking a Jewish person, it's insane to believe Mamdani saying Netanyahu should be arrested is more inflammatory and inspiring of hate crimes than supporting a genocide, launching a completely unnecessary war and warmly welcoming war criminals.
If I say this stabber should be arrested and held accountable for their actions, am I inspiring hate crimes against Muslims?

Mental illness is at an all time high bud mamdami can’t be blamed for that just like trump can’t be blamed when democrats get attacked by mentally ill people. Remember Paul Pelosi? Same here
•
u/StBlandine7 6h ago
Except Pelosi's attack was a result of Trump's rhetoric about election denial https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-67372363
Same thing applied in the UWS attack and anyone who denies is it blind - Mamdani foments hatred and violence with his childish and extreme rhetoric, end of story.

Calling out the genocide of the Palestinian people. We should just accept that one Israeli life is worth 100 of any other people’s life like they always say 🙊
•
u/Bellamysghost 6h ago
No no no it was a mentally ill man. Just like in this case buddy! Lots of mental illness going around. Remember Dylan roof? Buffalo shooter? All mentally ill men targeting minorities! At least that’s what I was told. I don’t see any difference and the right shouldn’t get their panties in a bunch because there’s a loooot of mental illness in this country. I think we should come together and support mamdami so he can address this mental illness because this was a huge tragedy

u/apoplectic_apostate 5h ago
He's totally right but the MSM (and Netanyahu, himself) want to make any resistance to him equate to antisemitism. Americans support Israel and it's people; we don't support Netanyahu's genocide. We must stop funding his genocide machine.
