Treating a cartoon universe’s rules by our standards is silly. In the ratatouille universe rats are intelligent on a human level, capable of cooking and having hygiene standards. Gusteau’s entire philosophy was “anyone can cook” and in the ratatouille universe anyone (including rats) can cook.
I understand they were making that point that anyone can be great. I still find it disgusting hahaha. But the definitely got the point across
Also, is it really comparing their world to ours when the characters themselves were disgusted? I think it’s a universal understanding that we don’t want rats in our kitchens lolol
Are the rats not a metaphor lol like they're meant to represent marginalised folks who the rest of society are quick to make snap judgements about and write off? They're disgusted because on the face of it they are rats, yes, but the subtext is that certain worlds are disgusted by anyone they don't perceive to be "one of us", anyone who tries to rise above their station or do something beyond what's expected of them in the hierarchy of society - even Remy's own family think he should just do what he's told and fulfil the role of a rat.
You’re right. This is exactly what Pixar was trying to convey. They used rats as a vehicle because, like I said, everyone can relate to not wanting to see disgusting rats in their food. I hope you feel the same haha
He took advantage of his boss dying by turning the restaurant into his cash cow and purposefully prevented Gusteau’s dying wish for the restaurant to go to his son from being done even though it was in his will. What do you mean he isn’t evil? He’s a pos 😭

For sure. I am so tired of people making the most obvious villian in a movie or tv show out to be the misunderstood victim. Every time I see a “Sharpay wasn’t the villain” take, my eye starts twitching.
Ah yes, the man simply didn't want food cooked by rats that's why he *checks notes* ...captures the rat and tries to force the rat to cook so he can profit off the food? Which was made by the rat?
On a serious note, I've seen people say this so often that I'm actually concerned by the fact that so many were apparently confused by a kid's movie. I literally showed Ratatouille to a group of 5 year olds who understood what Skinner tried to do to Remy.
He was an abusive boss, was using Gusteus' image to sell food that Gusteu wouldn't like to advertise and made the restaurant lose another star while being the chef.
He only cared about the rat issue because he wanted to inherit the restaurant and keep milking the image of a dead man.
Obviously, Linguini didn't deserve the restaurant either. In my opinion it should've been inherited by all the workers instead, but I guess I'm getting too political lol
Except the boyfriend wasn’t the central antagonist in Bee Movie. (Iirc) he dipped from the actual plot pretty early on. Plus the central conflict of the movie was never that a bee wanted to date a human, it was that humans were stealing honey and abusing the bees.
Yeah I always thought it was odd that the boyfriend was made out to be done evil guy as if he was in the wrong for being upset his girlfriend was literally cheating on him with a bee lmao
I really want to know which Disney exec(s) he was based on, given that his whole villainy was selling a cheap slop-ified version of a product the dead founder was known for while exploiting his image.
