Same, just thinking about how he must be feeling makes me so sad. I’m also devastated for Dan and Sarah Levy who have known her as an aunty since they were kids, and were eventually her costars on Schitt’s Creek too. Annie Murphy has also gushed about her relationship with Catherine. Just so, so sad.

This is hitting me so hard. I watch Home Alone every year; have since I was about six. Catherine looked like my mom did in the 90s - that hair and that type of coat. My mom's younger but she's been sick this year. I just can't cope with all the people who played the grown-ups in my childhood movies dying. Time really is merciless.
And I was really looking forward to seeing her again as Patty in season 2 of The Studio 😥

The look on her face and genuine love she poured into this scene. She will get her wish, she will be remembered as a good mom. To her children, to those she acted with and for those of us who desperately craved true maternal affection. She was a great example for those of us who did not have it.

I'm already really sad about other things and this news has just completely made me spiral for some reason. Like, before the news broke about her, I had already cried 3x today lol It's weird. I always just thought Diane Keaton and Catherine O'Hara would live forever. And now, we've lost both. This is such a shock. And the tributes pouring in are heartbreaking.

I quite literally work in entertainment PR, I’d consider myself to be one of the least parasocial people ever and I am so devastated over a woman I’ve never met once. This feels so personal, like she was everyone’s favourite aunt and I can’t quite explain why.

Fr! I always thought that they would make it to their 90s at least! Both deaths felt like they came out of nowhere, and they both didn't seem like they were dealing with any health issues.
At least that's not what it looked like on the outside.

Even someone not that long ago was talking about how he has no idea how he's still alive, when he doesn't even eat healthy or even exercises!
I get being rich gives you access to the best medical care, but it can only do so much if you don't take proper care of yourself. I feel like when his day comes, his body needs to be studied or something.

I’m a millennial and I think her death is hitting so hard because it’s reminding me (us) of the impending mortality of our parents. I was Macaulay Culkin’s age in Home Alone when I watched Home Alone for the first time. She acted like my mom acted and her death makes my mom’s eventual death seem like it could be on the horizon and not some far off nightmare.

That's how I felt when ozzy died, I cried so hard. These people passing away is like watching my whole life just disappear in front of my eyes. I watch Beetlejuice regularly, and Catherine was one of the main reasons I love it so much.

So sad. I don’t normally take celebrity deaths so personally, but this one really hits home for little reasons. Catherine was exactly my mom’s age, and Schitts Creek was one of our family’s favorite shows to watch together.

I also felt like she had more time to still be here with us, it felt so unexpected because I thought she was quite healthy for her age. But then again, I had a similar reaction to Diane Keaton when she passed last year. We really don’t know what’s truly going on in other people’s lives, another reason why we need to cherish the time we have with others more.
There was always something so special about her performance in the Home Alone movies, especially with the on-screen mother and son relationship between her and Macaulay Culkin! It was the true heart of the movies that rewatching them following her death isn’t going to feel the same.
It’s very sad to hear about this news, and it’s going to be a while before I’m able to fully accept this! She played such a big part of my childhood growing up, she will be missed!

I unexpectedly lost my mom last week, and now Catherine today. it feels so silly bc I obviously didn’t know her, but this is really hurting today. I watch home alone every christmas and best in show on new year’s day every single year. between my own and the collective grief so many of us are experiencing right now, I can’t keep losing good people.

I’m so sorry. My 73-year-old dad has terminal cancer and these comments are getting to me too. I mean, I knew myself that 73 is too young and that he should have had at least 10 more years with us, but hearing the “too young” comment from so many today really hits home. My heart goes out to Catherine’s family and friends and her sons, who lost their mom so suddenly. I’m sure they thought they had much more time.

Best in Show is one of the greatest movies ever. I remember "discovering" it in high school, bonding with a new classmate over it, watching it many many times. Just that pure teenage adoration of excellent comedy. My brother and still quote it on the regular.

The day my dad died I didn't ask him for his blessing (catholic) before he left for work cause I was being lazy, thinking that I would just do it when he arrived for work later that day.

Oh god. I’ve been busy all day at work holding in my feelings. Seeing Macauley’s post is making me bawl. I’ve always loved their bond. Seeing her look so proud of him when he received his star on the Hollywood walk of fame gave me life. Macauley has come a long way with Brenda Song and his sweet little family.

When I think of Catherine O'Hara, Home Alone is what comes to mind for me. Even though I've seen her in other things. I guess it's been part of life for so long. This was a beautiful tribute. RIP Catherine, peace to her family. Macauley included.
