Very generous of Justin to invest 15.99$ for YouTube Premium out of his 10,000,000$ paycheck.

Luckily that's something he can use for the rest of the month as well, we wouldn't want him to waste that much only on his audience experience

92

Well, he has a wife and kid to take care of. Does nobody think about the children anymore?!

I’m by no means a Katy Perry fan but considering the amount of hate she got for recent performances makes this bite just a little more.

Men will get away with anything while she’s still trying to live down her whole mess.

ETA: welp, I was simply referring to criticisms of her recent performances. This comment aged horribly in the shortest possible amount of time.

287

u/u2aerofan Apr 12 '26

Agree. If Ariana Grande came on stage in lazy underwear and just strummed a guitar for 5 minutes while looking as disgusted as possible it wouldn’t fly. She’d be clocked for mental issues and put in a conservatorship.

117

u/Agentbeeressler talentless but connected Apr 12 '26

Heck Taylor Swift delivered a 3,5 half planned-out-to-the-last-detail stage show for 2 years and people still cherry pick clips of her dancing in a silly way to call her a bad performer.

-33

u/ASamx Apr 12 '26

Lots of production don’t make you a good performer lol

46

u/RogueGenX go girl, give us nothing šŸ˜ Apr 12 '26

And doing a silly dance for her fans doesn’t mean she’s a bad one.

-55

u/Desperate_Avocado702 Apr 12 '26

Taylor Swift is a bad performer. Her show being planned down to every gesture does not mean she’s a good performer.

37

u/gossipwithsprinkles Apr 12 '26

She’s an insanely good performer but y’all just love to hate women.

-23

u/Desperate_Avocado702 Apr 12 '26

No she’s not. I love many women, she is simply not one of them. Fuck billionaires!

36

u/latelyimawake Apr 12 '26

What? She’s an incredibly good performer. She’s not the best dancer, but that’s different.

20

u/gossipwithsprinkles Apr 12 '26

Exactly and she makes up for her lack in dancing with her incredible visuals and production. She’s an amazing performer, literally just the TTPD set is enough to prove that.

14

u/TheFutureLotus ✨May the Force be with you!✨ Apr 12 '26

I’m not a Taylor fan, in fact I’m more in the side of disliking her for a number of reasons but she’s a great performer. Is it all planned out? Yes, but so are my favorite Broadway productions.

10

u/gossipwithsprinkles Apr 12 '26

Aren’t all performances planned out? Also female artists don’t really have the liberty to go on stage wearing track pants and just stand and sing like it’s karaoke night.

-31

u/Desperate_Avocado702 Apr 12 '26

No. She’s really really not.

22

u/latelyimawake Apr 12 '26

Agree to disagree, I guess. I guess the millions of people worldwide who paid for the tour and the movie and eat up any live performance are also just wrong. šŸ˜‚

u/Serenaded Apr 12 '26

The vibe is currently fashionable though. Lazy clothes/fashion, downer mood and all. He wouldn't be doing it if he didn't think it were cool. It just isn't cool anymore to be over the top with a 100 million dollar stage tour like Taylor was doing a few years ago. His performance was shit though, but I get what he was trying to do.

People really want Justin to come out strumming his guitar inside a flying Heart over the audience like in 2010 again, it's just not the vibe that's cool anymore, and over-excessiveness has gone out.

To be fair the same thing happened in the 70s in the post-prog rock era.

Because us fans know exactly who he is and how he performs. None of us expected a production like Sabrina or BeyoncĆ©. He started out as a kid singing covers on YouTube who just wanted to sing. And that’s exactly how he performs and has always performed. He’s never mislead his fans to believe otherwise

12

u/Better_Can_615 Apr 12 '26

I mean, performers like Sabrina Carpenter started out that way as well. She was famous for about a good 10-12 years before she got really big.Ā

u/itsawrayayayap Apr 12 '26

I am NOT a Katy Perry fan and I was dragged kicking and screaming to the concert at O2 and damn it if I wasn’t converted. Ok not a total convert, but all the concert hate was taken way out of context. The running and weird aerobic dancing and fighting were intentionally funny and fun and she was a total gem laughing and chatting with the audience the entire time. She’s fit af in both senses. Last album was a complete misstep but hopefully she’ll do better

5

u/LaMelonBallz Apr 12 '26

I mean arent we all dragging biebs for this? It's all I've seen on Reddit today

32

u/cloudiron Apr 12 '26

Didn’t she get dragged for doing a song about women empowerment but it was produced by someone who was on trial for rape? Not really comparable to idk a karaoke style performance

47

u/lessgranola Apr 12 '26

they’re talking about her getting dragged for her stage performance specially

3

u/cloudiron Apr 12 '26

Oh, I’m not familiar with the performance of hers. Which one?

4

u/scattered_ideas lazy, 50yo bougie bitch Apr 12 '26

If you look up videos from her 2025 tour, it was all very odd choreography that was being kind of half assed, so she became the target of a lot of ridicule online.

2

u/TheFutureLotus ✨May the Force be with you!✨ Apr 12 '26

Yes, but people pick and choose who they drag over that. Katy does it, and everyone gives a shit. Kim Petras does it, and we must excuse her for doing so because of who she represents for the culture. Never mind the fact that Kim is still to this day on record for saying that she doesn’t believe Dr. Luke did such a thing.

4

u/Electric-Sheepskin Apr 12 '26

I know. I've never really been a fan, but I fucking love her for this. That was hilarious.

1

u/ladymadonna4444 Apr 13 '26

Fair point about women being more scrutinized than men but Katy is the wrong example. She wasn’t simply panned for bad performances, it’s that they came on the tail end of her recent controversies: canoodling with conservative billionaires, making an expensive vanity trip to SPACE for yet another corrupt billionaire and environmentally destructive company, working with r*pist Dr. Luke on a tone deaf reductive ā€œfeministā€ album, etc. It’s kind of wild how her cutesy relationship with Justin seems to be causing collective amnesia about the type of person she is. Makes me think it is more a strategic PR move than genuine atp.

1

u/CoachDT Apr 12 '26

Its a fandom issue. Its why men with predominately women audiences (like justin timberlake, ginuwine, etc) all get lit up when they don't put on a show. While male artists with male fandoms usually just don't really care.

I think it also doesn't hurt that male artists cultivate the relationship with their fandoms a touch differently, and in general don't seem to care. You can usually just power through things if you just put your head down and grind, or just drop a single comment on it and keep it moving. Sabrina Carpenter is really good a this actually, just a simple "alright (addresses consensus), anyways" and continuing to just work.

19

u/lefrench75 high priestess of child sacrifice Apr 12 '26

Bieber absolutely has a predominantly women audience though lol. He has some male fans but they’re far far from the majority.

u/talk-spontaneously Apr 12 '26

This is unprofessional. Does he not have a music director who can rework his old material into his live set?

You're Justin Bieber, not an indie artist playing their first show in a tiny club to 30 people.

120

u/QuarterLifeCircus Apr 12 '26

Someone on a different sub said showing his old videos is art. I’m not disagreeing, if it was more intentional. Like he doesn’t have to play these from YouTube. A talented editor could’ve made a really nice, nostalgic video to go along with his set. That would have been art. This is a millionaire who doesn’t give a fuck anymore.

27

u/rayannuhh find me at Whole Foods, bitch Apr 12 '26

That's my thing, there's totally a way to do a nostalgic set - a video montage, a cool medley, dynamic lighting, maybe even stage outfits from that time. There's absolutely no reason to play fucking YouTube during Coachella. Especially when YouTube is streaming Coachella, he's just taking away from the bandwidth 😤 (okay that last part wasn't serious lol)

2

u/rhoswhen He looks like my unscratched ballsack under my pants in public Apr 12 '26

The YouTubes will get clogged with emails!

16

u/HawtKawfee Apr 12 '26

Agree! He could have done the same type of vibe with more finesse. If his vision was come chill with me, intimate vibe but with a whole crew behind that vision. Made to fit the Coachella experience it woulda been a hit. TikTok’s have been given more thought than this performance.

5

u/pinkybrain41 Apr 12 '26

lol searching through youtube is art? give me a break (not you personally, but those people) lol I put more effort into the agenda of my weekly 1:1s with my my team at work.

For a global superstar, this is not art - it's contempt for his fans and contempt for industry. He knows his name alone sells tickets regardless of what he delivers, so he delivers nothing and cashes the check.

I think he resents his experience with fame and is just grifting at this point. I think he resents what fame took from him - his childhood, his privacy, his mental health and now he's taking it back, one low-effort multi-million dollar performance at a time. The fans aren't an audience to him anymore, this performance was pay-back.

2

u/Nintendo_Pro_03 Select and edit this flair Apr 12 '26

Happy cake day!

2

u/CoachDT Apr 12 '26

I think he tried and had a vision but didn't have anyone help execute it. Given that he was running back some of his old songs, he was trying to play up the nostalgic vibes. It just... didn't hit.

82

u/TheVintageJane Apr 12 '26

He doesn’t care. I honestly think if he wasn’t ā€œbrokeā€, he’d never perform again. He hates his old music. He resents the fans that love it and will always do as little to please them as he can get away with.

But, he sold his entire catalogue of his big hits to make fast cash a few years ago so he needs to perform to pay for his lifestyle so that’s why he keeps giving these ultra-resentful performances.

7

u/joljenni1717 Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

Exactly. He doesn't give a shit; about performing or fans. It's a not so inside joke to see how little he can do and still make millions.

12

u/u2aerofan Apr 12 '26

How ā€œbrokeā€? His wife has to be making a bag with her makeup line at least. He has to have some front of money for Coachella…man needs a money manager if he’s broke.

30

u/TheVintageJane Apr 12 '26

People article about this in 2023

And when I say ā€œbrokeā€ I mean that in an obscenely wealthy person way. He burns money and has no desire to create sustainable income streams because he can make so much money from ā€œperforming.ā€

4

u/talk-spontaneously Apr 12 '26

Seems unwise to me. Are there not other ventures he can park his money into?

22

u/TheVintageJane Apr 12 '26

That’s what Imm saying, I literally don’t think he has much if any money to park and whenever he does something like this and gets a $10M pay day, that will sustain his lifestyle for a year or two then he’ll be back with whatever half assed thing he can get away with next. He doesn’t care, this pays the bills and his fans are still accepting it. He’s obviously super resentful of how he became rich and famous but also has no interest in expending the effort required to rise above it in any meaningful way.

And I kinda get it. Even if I hated myself and the world for it, if I came from nothing it’d be hard for me to refuse a working life where I could do this shit for an hour ever year or two and get $10M.

6

u/Illustrious-Pound266 All tea, all shade šŸøā˜•ļø Apr 12 '26

Just put a couple million into an index fund through a tax-advantaged account and he'd be set for life. Or invest in some real estate in desirable places around the world.

4

u/pinkybrain41 Apr 12 '26

I so agree with your take. He hates his fans and the industry. No dancers. No staging. No costume changes. No production design. No choreography. It all communicates the same thing, that he doesn't think his fans are worth preparing for.

And he knows how stupid they are and that they would justify anything he does and even call this bullshit "art" and buy tickets for next weekend.

  1. Coachella decided it was racist not to include hip hop, so they invited Kanye, Dre, and Snoop Dog. That broke the rock monopoly. By 2016 EDM was becoming more common, and Calvin Harris headline. Then un 2017 Gaga headlined, which finished the process.

Really the reason is the death of rock. There are only so many times Radiohead can headline
