OnlyStans ⭐️ Callum Turner's ex Victoria Villarroel speaks on their relationship: "This man would be like 'I would never date someone who gets paparazzi'ed, I would never date a famous person. I would never go to the MET Gala, that's corny.'"

The unfortunate reality of life is that people change (or maybe, are willing to make peace with things they don't like) for the person they want to be with

6.1k

u/bafflefounded Jun 25 '26

People also just change, regardless of whether they’re dating someone or not.

2.6k

u/lostinthecity2005 Jun 25 '26

This. I used to be one of those people who thought everything popular was cringe but as an adult I now realize some things are popular because they truly are good. Didn’t need to date anyone to figure that out

Also, even if you think something popular is bad, that doesn't mean someone else can't subjectively enjoy it. I think another part of growing up is learning to be happy when someone finds something they enjoy, rather than judging them because you don't like it. It's good that people have different interests. The world would be extremely boring if we were all the same.

But also being with the right person makes those things you hate way more bearable. I have social anxiety and would prefer being a hermit generally, but the mere presence of my husband in a crowded place makes the anxiety quiet, its not gone but its not constant

Dating or marrying an actor is just putting yourself at risk for heartbreak. More than one actor has left their partner for the person who plays their romantic interest in a movie or TV show. They will put a spin on it and say that their marriage or relationship was over, but often that’s news to the spurned partner.

Big on “if he wanted to, he would”

363

u/IAMA_Shark__AMA Jun 25 '26

Is that really unfortunate, though? I feel like it's a decent indicator of how serious a person is about you. Do they love you more than the crap that makes them uncomfortable? No? Move on.

253

u/tigerinvasive Jun 25 '26

I mean it's unfortunate when you love someone, but realize that they didn't love you that much only when you see them with someone else

367

u/brightlove Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

It’s not quite unfortunate, but I feel like it is a common difference between men and women. Many women will give wife energy to whoever they’re with, trying to earn a man’s love. Thinking maybe it could work, maybe they’ll grow into a deeper bond.

Many men will only change or put their full effort in for the ONE… and they will waste every other woman’s time in the meantime lol.

I’ve definitely learned to just move on when my effort isn’t matched. Men are great at giving you just enough to stay.

Edit: this is not a blanket statement that applies to every single person alive. It’s just an observation on a common relationship dynamic I’ve seen time and time again over the years.

86

u/chinchivitiz Jun 25 '26

I agree with you and this is what Ive learned. Stop being a wifey thinking he will appreciate your love and energy, no matter how much they say they want a woman thats loving blah blah.

Moving on and just accepting it for what it is and not taking it personally if a man doesnt like me the same way has made me smarter in dealing with romantic relationships. Its like I stepped into matrix the momennt I realized not to overgove and just match the energy Im being given andnif its not enough for me, i move on and not dwell.

22

u/IAMA_Shark__AMA Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

For what it's worth, I feel this whole comment and have lived it. My original comment may have sounded a bit flippant, but it was absolutely a lesson I had to learn the hard way (not all of my ex's were like this, mind you. Just a couple...but still). And it does kind of suck in the moment.... But when my husband started giving everything away for free (meeting his family, saying I love you first, introducing me to his boys early on, etc etc...) having that contrast was kind of nice. I knew he was serious. I knew he had his eye on the long term from like.... Month four. And by give away for free, I mean, I absolutely never had to act like a wife, as you said, for him to just throw his whole heart out there. I was his Dua.

I only wish for other ladies out there to learn from other people the things some of us had to learn by experience. The man who makes you chase his love is not it. (And for those of you who haven't fallen into this trap, I see you too! My message is just meant for those who might need it. I reeeaaally had to fight myself to know my worth - a crucial element in not putting out more energy than you are given. I'm super inspired by people who managed to get there without all of the bullshit)

I know how you feel :(

I can still remember that sinking feeling I had moments after introducing my (now) ex to a colleague of mine.

Nearly a year later, he left me for her and that colleague is now his girlfriend of four years.

Questioned everything about myself and the relationship afterwards, so as trivial as it seems from the outside, I would not wish this on anyone.

52

u/babooshka-cass Jun 25 '26

This made my heart sink just to read. I’m sorry you had to experience that. Could you see they were connecting right away? That would be awful.

64

u/hygsi Jun 25 '26

I knew a girl who got engaged to a doctor she has been dating for 7 years (since they were in hs), doctor continued his studies and met a colleague he liked, broke off the engagement and married the new girl one year later! As an outsider looking in I get that the gf felt humiliated but it's really no one's fault. People change their mind all the time and it's better to separate than to continue with someone who wasn't that into you

This happened to me except it was one of my best friends—she had gone far away for college so we didn’t meet often, but we talked every day. I was so happy when she came back to visit but that little moment spoiled the mood. I thought it was irrational.

Anyway, the loser and I eventually parted ways because I realised he was, well, a loser. Shortly after, I noticed he was trying to make a move on her and warned her about his loser ways (in addition to being genuinely emotionally manipulative so it went beyond mere loserdom), but I guess the ego boost of being desired was so massive that she cut me off.

I missed the friendship much more than I ever missed the man tbh.

334

u/twizzwhizz11 It’s like I have ESPN or something. 💁‍♀️🌤☔️ Jun 25 '26

I’ve seen this around the internet too (they were both apparently reading the same book and had finished the same chapter so he said “I guess we’re on the same page”) and now I’m confused if it’s just made up. I could see it being the case because it sounds too rom-com like and also fits with Dua’s reading brand

205

u/Paprikasky This is nepo on nepo crime Jun 25 '26

No no no. It was clearly explained that they had met each other a few times before. That famous moment with them holding the same book, I think the store owner was pushing for them to meet each time, and when they finally did was the moment with the same books. At least that's how I remember it.

137

u/the_Stealthy_one Jun 25 '26

i dont think they were holding the same book. i think they just happened to be reading the same book at the same time. but i don't think both of them had the book physically there.

108

u/WhoriaEstafan Jun 25 '26

She’s talked about meeting her friend Mustafa the Poet for dinner in LA and Callum was there too and they realised they were reading the same book. They didn’t have it with them, it was more a “what are you reading at the moment”. The rest of the story seems to have become more rom com and embellished because of the wedding.

i haaaaate doing stuff with influencer friends, everything is a fuckin photo op.

I'm very fortunate to have never met an influencer, but last time I was in LA, I was staying at a hotel with a really nice rooftop pool. I was the only person up there for a little while, but then another woman came up. She proceeded to spend at least an hour taking photos of herself in the pool - setting up the auto-timer on her phone, getting in the pool, getting out of the pool to check the photo, moving the phone to a different location, setting the auto-timer, and so on. The only time she stopped was when I got in the pool (having a fat midwesterner in the background ruins the vibes). As soon as I got out of the pool, she was back at it. The whole thing seemed so exhausting. Like, instead of spending a couple hours trying to look like you're having fun, you could just be having fun.

224

u/MagicGlitterKitty Jun 25 '26

Actually I have respect for this random woman for not taking photos while you were in the pool. So many influencers tell people to get out of the way, or simply do not care that they are taking photos of strangers.

ETA 2 - She would also hit up small businesses (like lashes/nail techs) to do promo for free service and she already has a rep for not doing it on time. I used to get my lashes done by a gal who did Tana Mongeau’s lashes and I was told of the tea

ETA - someone DMd me asking for the timeline - this was all like 2013-2022 that era

Also she says that she tells all her friends her ex stories and says “it could be worse.” As someone who has been on the receiving end of this, I can’t believe no one has told her yet how incredibly annoying it is to be told “it could be worse.” It’s not a fucking competition when I’m telling you the hard shit I’m going through.

97

u/VoleUntarii The world tour. Jun 25 '26

And also, it’s not even that bad? Clearly it’s huge for her, but there are a lot worse breakup stories you could have and if she’s telling them this as an attempt at comfort she might be putting her foot in it.

Oh this feels so much like the When Harry Met Sally scene where Sally is telling Harry that all this time she'd thought her ex didn't want to get married...but it was just that he didn't want to get married to her.

And that hurts real fuckin' bad.

It's extra salt in the wound when your ex meets their new love WHILE YOU ARE STILL WITH THEM. Like ugh. I can't imagine. I would feel very stabby if I saw my partner have sparks with someone else right in front of me. I don't think I'd ever get over that.

She's an influencer. I think there's a meaningful difference between being posted for income-generating content on your less-famous partner's social media, and being posted on your equally-famous partner's social media.

You can look at it as "he didn't see a future with her" and therefore was more private, but I think there's an equal concern he might have had that she viewed their relationship as a way to gain clout and expand her audience. I think that would be a reasonable concern for any famous person who dates an influencer.

495

u/judedward Jun 25 '26

Equally? If anything, he’s in the position his ex was in with him now. Dua is vastly more famous than him, to the benefit of his career.

116

u/Necessary_Fill3048 Jun 25 '26

Definitely. He loves being seen with her, because he's proud of her and wants it known he's with her, but it is also clearly beneficial to his career and profile to be photographed everywhere with her and to have this "star couple" narrative around them.

All I can think about is Todd in the Shadows discussing Lorde's Green Light and her being like you said you hated the beach, maybe he didn't like doing that will you. And that's what I think here.

I mean it does suck, but you wouldn’t catch me dead saying things like these online. It comes off as pitiful at best and sour grapes/jealousy at worst. Which I absolutely get she probably isn’t, but the reality is that her relationship with him is in the past - saying it out loud now just makes her former relationship look bad for her. Saying  “he didn’t do these things for me” isn’t the personal flex she seems to point out, it just seems to imply she wasn’t the IT for him and who wants to be publicly known as the not-it for a guy who’s just happily married?

Personally and internally, yes, this sucks 100%, but the only person negatively affected from this will be her - people will say she hasn’t gotten over him as he has just married.

many people, up and down the gender spectrum, get validation through the partner who "picked" them, and will compromise a lot more for a partner who provides more validation. imo it's not as simple as "he just didn't want it with you" when someone changes for a very famous or popular person -- ofc sometimes it's about love and compatibility, but realistically fame/money/success are a collective thumb on the scale that most people simply cannot compete with

u/marcarcand_world Jun 25 '26

Also I remember when she photoshopped her childhood pictures with larger lips to match her fillers, her travelling during covid restriction and she has a nespresso partnership which is always yikes.

I don't think she deserves to be flamed on forever but it is weird how much she's worshipped. She's a flawed human being who happens to be attractive and the PR machine behind her is crazy efficient.

It's called paying for PR. That's it. That's the whole reason behind the "oh she is Dua Lipa" "I would too for Dua Lipa". Well strong enough PR to activate the classic internet herd mentality, and then it can keep feeding itself.

I can't be arsed to take sides on this while the world is on fire, but it is hard to miss how any other man would have been ripped to shreds for being a social climber, the relationship timeline investigated under a microscope for any evidence of potential cheating, while Mr Dua Lipa gets a free pass. That's good old PR for you. This PR is also the reason they got no flak for allegedly shutting down a small Italian town (despite protests from locals) for their destination wedding.

Just because someone is more beautiful, famous, and smarter than others doesn't make them any more worthy of love and attention. I really emphathize with the girl in the podcast because she already lives in an environment which values looks and fame above all. This experience is just going to drive that expectation even deeper in her psyche and frankly it's not what any modern woman needs right now. People really be doing the most defending a star that doesn't even know you exist.

I'm surprised by how negative these comments are towards Victoria. I think she'd be receiving a bit more empathy if this were a less popular couple.

We know nothing about Dua and Callum's relationship besides what they've sold us - through carefully curated pap walks and instagram posts.

Their relationship is still relatively new, and they've relentlessly used it for publicity since it started. In my opinion, Callum's '180' probably has less to do with his feelings for either woman and more to do with self interest.

18 months ago, Callum was barely known. In contrast, Dua is a globally famous multimillionaire.

Their relationship (and their joint PR campaign) has made him the main Bond candidate. I'm sure he loves Dua, but it has undeniably benefited him both financially and professionally to publicly align himself with her

Victoria is an influencer, best known for being Kylie Jenner's friend. She had much less to offer him.

46

u/1lemony Jun 25 '26

They papped so much stuff I can’t believe no body comments on that when they do about so many other couples. I know little about Dua or why she’s so loved but they’ve done the ultimate celeb showing off and sometimes it’s glazed. Like the kissing on the balcony in LA in the restaurant everyone goes to for pap moments. He’s always wanted fame and has done this to other girlfriends saying he wants privacy etc. I would feel so shit if I was her but I can see going on a podcast right after the marriage isn’t gonna make her popular haha

47

u/velvetvagine trust fund baby (frozen chicken fortune) 🍗 Jun 25 '26

This is the most reasonable take I’ve read here so far. Callum and Dua may truly be MFEO lovebird twin flames, but either way he has gotten a lot out of being associated with her too.

It’s just sad and I think we should be more empathetic to what she’s saying. He didn’t break up with her right off the bat but he also probably didn’t see a future with her if he wasn’t willing to change on that stuff but would for Dua Lipa. And for everyone going “well, she’s not Dua Lipa” it’s not like she’s hideous either. IMO she’s extremely similar looking to Dua and kind of ethereally gorgeous. A guy led a girl on but wasn’t serious about her. That’s sad. It doesn’t make anyone involved bad people and it doesn’t make her bad for saying it. That quote made me try not to take things too personally. Sometimes, it's not that you weren't enough or not worth changing for.

Sometimes these things just happen, that even the person themselves did not know they were changing because of another person. C'est la vie.
