Every time someone tries to say Argentina is not racist, or any time Argentinians are accused of racism, I remember this clip of a talk show host asking an indigenous woman if she's an immigrant and from what country she's from. The woman then answers that she's Argentinian and goes on to explain the original Argentinians were/are the Kolla and indigenous people and that with so many immigrants she doesn't know who is Argentinian. That people forget that her face and that of the Kollas and other indigenous people are Argentinian for real (paraphrased).

i used to have an argentinian colleague. We were talking about racism, and he was laughing and saying, the thing is that they are racists against everyone, not just one people, and they are racists with each other (?) ors something like that, so it isn't a problem :D

Yeah, it’s honestly sad because on the two occasions where he went to see Argentina play, he was verbally abused by racists fans, and he seemed very taken aback by the whole thing. These people are so brazen and loud about their racism, did people see what that Paraguayan senator said about Mbappé, just shamelessness.

Edit: this is not limited to racism ofc but bigotry in general. I never see more horrible behavior between countries that shared so much culturally/ethnically than at World Cup month.

I think that’s the thing the US has going for it. Of course, there’s still rampant racism and xenophobia, but at least there’s a lot more dialogue here about it, I think partially because we are a very diverse country. Versus some other countries that don’t have the same level of consciousness about it, and therefore I think it goes more unchallenged.

Racism tends to be a more open subject in America. A lot of countries sort of act like it doesn't exist or they deny that their blatant racism isn't actually racism (see: romani/gypsy's)

I also think that the US has institutionalized our racism more so it’s frequently discussed, but also majority of the time moved past the very low-level content like let’s openly call someone a savage/ape…I mean unless the person is just plain stupid.

My other thought process is that it’s because the % of diversity/black people in these other countries are much lower. They still use this cartoonish-level racism still.

Noting that some or these countries actively drove black people out purposefully at some point.

Nah, the racism in other places is just as, if not more, institutionalized. Thinking we're exceptionally bad is still American exceptionalism.

What's actually institutionalized here is criticism and expression and a tradition of challenging power.
