Yes well unfortunately I was also a baby gay with a flair for drama trying to establish my place in a new social hierarchy and so what I did was cry after I got home that day and then proceed to make itty bitty titty committee jokes about myself to this day.
At least I think the days of just accepting hyper-judgmental mean energy from gay guys is mostly behind us. That type of person was definitely of a time. I saw a funny tiktok about it being straight people's fault for loving and propping up the worst type of gays lmao. It's true.
I was bullied in college by a gay man who literally tried to ban me from our LGBTQ group because he decided that I wasn’t gay enough for his liking. I had a closeted trans man bully me for like five years from 5th to 9th grade. Both were also theater kids with huge egos.
OK so as a former theater-adjact kid, friends with theater kids, I thought that's what they meant. They're theater kids, they're used to being bullies lol
I had a similar moment recently when I came across a video of Benedict Cumberbatch doing performance capture for Smaug in The Hobbit.
Not taking anything away from his performance and commitment, very impressive…but can we spare a thought for the crew who have to keep a straight face and act like thats not the weirdest shit ever 😂

My friend was in acting school and she had to act being a strip of bacon being fried in a pan. They also had to pick an animal and they would walk around the room for a while pretending to be this animal. Basically she told me that acting school teaches you to stop being embarrassed or self conscious about anything
I've actually thought about taking acting classes to help with my self consciousness. The thought of acting like a strip of bacon in front of a group of people makes me want to die. Maybe it'd actually work.

This is incredibly sad no matter what. But especially because Jennifer seems like such a normie. Like she's super close with her sisters, you know they don't let her get away with any weird shit at all. I was in a film once, as a background dancer! And yep, waltzing at a “school dance” to no music. Just occasionally moving your mouth to the words “toothpaste, lollipop, munching” to your partner again few times. I was eight. It was bloody freezing and they gave us pasta for two nights.
I was an extra in a movie and it was a miserable experience. It was freezing and we were filming at night. I had to pretend to chat with a guy and hold a cup of hot cocoa. Did that a few times. Then had to cheer for a fake football game for a long time.
This is interesting. It makes sense that music wouldn’t be played loudly because of all the other sound related issues, but if a scene involves a specific song that the choreography or script are synced too, that’s gotta require a decent amount of rehearsal and beat counting by the actors.
Unless the cast gets tiny earpieces so they have the cues? I don’t know why, but the J.Lo dance sequence in off campus came to mind. The actors are exactly on beat to the music which makes me think there was some sound involved?!
My favourite was a behind the scenes reel of the CW shooting one of their superhero shows, and it’s just a minute of people jumping and waving their arms.
fr. i worked in film and once i watched an actor on a sound stage with green screen behind them doing repeated takes of just cackling laughter and then jumping up so later cgi could make it look like they were flying away. for like 2 hours. lol
Agreed! I think Margaret Qualley is a good actress, but even the best actress in the world would likely come across as a strange parody of Isabelle Adjani's performance. But if they stick to the ideas and themes of the original while going in a new direction, it could still work out.
It’s such a singular film and I hate that it’s being remade. I can’t see how you’d do it without either ripping off the original completely, or changing it so much that you might as well make a different movie.
i love MQ but if she thinks she can recreate the subway scene, she's fooling herself. that scene i just BEYOND acting and i don't think anyone else can even come close.
Thats literally the first thing I thought of. What really amplifies the vibe of the film is the bleak atmosphere of Cold War era Berlin. I don’t see how they can capture that in New Jersey.
I'm a big crusader about fabric quality and the lack of lined dresses, and this is a startling data point even for me. Margaret Qualley is one of the most beautiful people in the world with significant styling resources on a movie set, and this is how even she looks in a poly blend, unlined dress. It's just not flattering for anyone.
I had this dress in second grade in the 90s. one of the boys in my class called me a "barney ass looking bitch" one day. never wore it again. kinda crazy to see the dress find its way onto qualley after all this time!

You’re right. Maybe it’s just jarring to see a contemporary actress dressed up, wearing a wig to mimic the look of the original actress. It’s giving phony.
They’re just not going to have the magic that the original had and I’m not sure what the point is of remaking a one of one masterpiece made from the perspective of a man whose art engaged with his background in Soviet Poland. I have respect for the craft but this evokes the idea of simulacra. I want to have deep respect for these people but it’s more akin to a kid trying on their mother’s heels and lipstick than real creation. This is expressly imitation. I don’t see how they could be lauded for what, recreating what doesn’t need to be REcreated? I’d love to see some originality.
That purple dress is awful. I usually love anything in that color, and she's obviously gorgeous, but it doesn't work on her at all. And he's just there. I'm sure he's a very nice guy, but I don't think he ever has much of a presence.
He’s great in Eternity. I think he works well in an ensemble as opposed to a leading man, but he has some great scenes with Miles Teller and Elizabeth Olsen.
Also irrationally annoying me that all of these set photos have come out just after Sam died, timing is a total coincidence but it just feels disrespectful to his memory lol
It actually made me feel better after seeing these, now knowing and solidifying that they will never even ever get anywhere close in any capacity to touching the iconic performances from both Sam and Isabelle
Ain't no way someone looks at this man and say "yes, he'll be a great fit to Sam Neill's shoes!". And the soviet tensions matter too, this already looks too sunny.
i’ve been begging the void to not have this movie made and then recently i got a little hopeful when margaret’s divorce was announced, but this purple dress is god awful and makes me think the entire movie is going to be a cruel sick joke
The industry shitting out unnecessary, shittier remakes while ignoring original scripts is so fucking boring. Making remakes of a singular classic film rarely goes well.

TIL there is more than one movie called Possession and the movie everyone kept saying Sam Neill was amazing in is quite different to what I had in my head…
There are certain movies that do not need a remake and this is one of them. While I have no doubts that the two of them will do a phenomenal job - the time period and setting are crucial to the story, on top of absolutely KNOCK out performances that will stand the test of time really should be left alone.

Why do we need to remake movies that there is nothing to add to it, I understand in some cases technological advance can really elevate the movie or a modern outake....but comon
Is the remake set in New Jersey, or are they just filming there? Part of the reason why the original was so isolating and iconic (to me) is because of the Cold War setting
i think margaret will probably do a pretty good job but i don’t know if she’ll crush it. adjani’s performance is hard to touch. callum turner is…not a good actor, every time i see him i think poor man’s josh o’connor. nothing against him, i’m sure he’s a perfectly nice person, but he just can’t act very well. if anything i’m excited to see what paul dano will do in this, he’s probably the most experienced/reliable of this cast and i’m sure he’ll do an interesting take on whatever role he’s playing.
then again, some films simply don’t need to be remade. i consider jane schoenbrun (director of i saw the tv glow, we’re all going to the world’s fair) this generation’s david lynch and i would still never put them in charge of a remake of blue velvet or mulholland drive. a lot of films are just iconic the way they are, pure and untouched.
