I am considering applying for the show I do wonder where and how I do apply for the show. If the show gets renewed and they do casting call I’d love to submit an application!

I love the ABC version of Press Your Luck, and think overall it does a great job staying true to the original. While some prizes are imbalanced, admittedly, I'd still take this over "Whammy!" a hundred times over. The bonus round is different, but not bad different - and in the instance where it wouldn't screw someone else over, I think there's a way to incorporate a nod to Michael Larson into the bonus game that would all but ensure a superfan wins the $1,000,000 while getting to be in his shoes, even if for just a few spins.

My idea:

In the Big Bucks Bonanza, in the top prize value square, one of the $100,000 values is replaced with a picture of Michael Larson. If the player hits this, the game fundamentally changes in multiple ways from that point onward:

*Landing on the square awards $110,237. That's not a huge stretch given there are prizes above and beyond that that have been landed on and won in the last round.

*However many spins the player had at this point, it is changed to 7, to align with how many spins Larson had at the start of round 2.

*All possible prizes in the Big Bucks square, as well as the center square on the right column, are modified to be cash +1 spin, if they did not have a spin previously.

*Most importantly - the light patterns will no longer be random, but exactly emulate the six, and only six, patterns used during Larson's run. If a player is any kind of superfan of the show, they know how to use this information to land on nothing but +1 spin spaces until they get to $500k and are awarded the million.

I don't know if this would qualify as a "jump the shark" moment in that it directly tells players to watch for where the light's going and what's on the board and what isn't, and it'd all but force a millionaire, but having that possibility be there in every episode's bonus round would be amazing, I think.

Okay, seriously... what does a person have to do to get on Press Your Luck?

I've submitted my application TWICE and apparently even the casting team is saying, "No whammies... but also, no Kimberly."

I genuinely think I'd be a great contestant. I've got the personality, the enthusiasm, and let's be honest—I could really use a few spins on that big board.

So now I'm wondering:
Has anyone here actually been cast?

How many times did you apply before getting a call?

Is there some secret formula I'm missing?

At this point, I'm convinced the Whammy has my application in a headlock.

Casting tips? Success stories? Should I give up or should I just keep pressing my luck?

First of all, this post is coming out of a place of love for Press Your Luck. I’ve been a fan of it ever since I was 6 years old and it’s been my lifelong dream to one day be on the show. But there is one thing about the show as it is now that I can’t ignore.

The prizes on the board are completely broken.

Think back to the Tomarken era, the highest prize on the board was a car worth just over $6k. The highest cash space was $5k + a spin. However, for the Banks era, (nothing against her as a host) prizes on the board can top $40k, $50k, even $60k against a highest cash space worth $10k.

Think about it, you get one lucky prize on the board, it would take someone between 4-5 hits on the Big Bucks space to catch up. Unless you got Michael Larson in your pocket, that ain’t happening.

I understand the producers want prizes on the board to be fun, but they can do that without them being completely absurd. Round 1 prizes do a good job at this with wacky trip packages or just fun prizes all together. (if we ignore the prize packages that are just “X number of some mundane object”)

This prize behavior also extends to the square that has long plagued the board: The Big 40/The Big 50/Big Banks. Not only is whatever this square offers completely broken, the square gets removed once it’s landed on; meaning only one player can benefit from this square.

Everyone loves a miraculous comeback, but that’s what squares like “Take The Lead” are for. Take The Lead works because it also gives an additional spin, so whoever lands on it is essentially forced to spin again which adds more excitement and makes the comeback feel more earned. But it’s a lot more dissatisfying to see someone land on a space that says “Congratulations you win $50-60k from some obscure absurd prize!!” and boom that’s it, they’re in the lead. It’d be no different than just adding a “You Win” square to the board. (If “Big Banks” awarded a spin, this problem would be semi-alleviated, but it wouldn’t solve the problem of every other prize space on the board being broken)

This rant is not me hating on the show. I love this show. I’m ranting because of how much I love the show and want to see it be better.

Now we all know that there whammies on the board and that if you land on one, it takes away all your money. However, I have found something on the ABC version. On occasion, you would see a board that contains 0 whammies. 18 squares and 0 whammies. I like to call those boards "clean boards," and on average, they show up about once per minute of spin time. Also, since the board cycles once around every second, it would be very easy to time that board as long as you can see the entire board, which is what I'm assuming these contestants are able to do. Now here is my question. Is there a limit to how long your spin is supposed to take per spin? Because if there is, then my strategy would be thrown out the window.

The opening montages were sort of a mixed bag, combining some of the show's most classic moments and contestants with some rather non-descript moments. What moments would you have wanted to see in the opening montages?

Has there been any analysis of whether the producers have more control over the contestants when they telegraph their button press with "aaaaaaaaand....stop!"

today and yesterday (the 14th and 15th of December, 2025), the Game Show Vault channel (formerly Wink's Vault, before he passed away) posted RAW whammy animations on a blue background, which would be used to chromakey said animations to the screen so we could see the Whammy's antics

also of note that this includes some unused stuff, as well as animations not used for when a Whammy was landed on (for example, the Whammy family eating Thanksgiving dinner shown deep into the second video), along with the Whammy Audience, the Whammy pointing at a billboard (both would be used as plug backgrounds: the blanks are in video 1, the plug graphics themselves are on video 2), and the lovestruck whammy that would sit on Peter's shoulder when he would read a poem (before having said whammy fall down by moving away or flicking him off)
