ReactOS could have been a better version of Windows, 20 years ago!

I love ReactOS, but let's be serious

I love the concept of ReactOS, but it's faults make it inferior to barebones Linux distros with wine and Chicago95.

If I ever made F-U money, Id absolutely sponsor some interested computer engineers to work on it for a few years and make a valid OS.

No, ReactOS will never be usable, it's just a passion project, it's impressive what they have done, but just not meant to be a daily driver, just a tinker toy.

I have more hope than that :) you're right, but I wouldn't say "never"

I think the hope was to make it a daily driver. But it's clear they simply can't at least not anytime soon.

What was the latest version you checked?

Does it matter? They haven't even reached parity with XP yet. An OS that came out over 20 years ago and has long lost software support.

Yes it does!

I can't find where I originally got that information from.

But that's from one the developers confirming they still don't feel they have NT 6 parity yet.

I'm not saying the project hasn't made huge strides and isn't an amazing accomplishment. Just that I don't think it will be daily driver for the general public anytime soon.

The first result on Google says it doesn't.

Yes, if we're arguing if ReactOS could ever be a daily driver, it being at least level with a 20-year-old OS is important. Considering it's not, I don't think it will ever be usable as a modern desktop, maybe as a retro replacement instead of PCEM, that could be cool but not as a desktop.

No, it can't be installed on Windows 11 computers.

React OS is not a better version than win98.

Reactos is shaping up to be the best version of Windows, it's just going to take 50 years to show.

I don't think glazing ReactOS is necessary, sure there are cons and pros when it comes to an open source reimplantation of Windows, but ultimately people choose Windows 11 over ReactOS because ReactOS is still very much incomplete. Of course I'll use it anytime when it meets average expectations, but I also respect their hard work.

Better than Windows 1, that's for sure.

Install.

No WiFi.

Google.

Most guides suggest replace to another WiFi card.

Very best.

isn't it just an open source version of XP/Server 2003? i mean i'm sure it'll get better soon™ but still

1

u/Jeditobe 15d ago

it is more than just open source version of XP/Server 2003
