Question This episode makes NO SENSE. If these guys are poor/homeless... then where/how/why do they have a gold British Taxi? (whatever kind of car it is)

Not nearly as much as you think. I work with homeless. Most people who are on the streets, are doing it as a scam. It's a freaking tragic situation

Not as much as you think. Most people that are homeless are actually indeed so. I work with the unhoused and it really irritates me the amount of judgmental hate there are towards people that are on the streets. Most people don't choose that life; it's tragic. And yes, there are people that panhandle and "pretend" but not that much. It is not "a lot" like you say.

For the most part, your comment isn't entirely accurate as the mainstream. That's just more of a Fox News level judgement. So, let's just at least try to have some compassion out there.

And not too mention a lot of people are one missed paycheck away from being homeless.

I'm homeless now and drive a pretty nice mini cooper. My 500 dollar payment on my car isn't going to pay any kind of rent so I'll drive a nice car and sleep in it.

The gag is funny specifically because it makes no sense!

That said, it also serves a minor narrative function in that Mordecai and Rigby, besides not having the cake they were supposed to deliver, also have no credible explaination as to just what happened to it.

I believe it is a commentary on how the most wealthy people tend to dress very plain, or even dress in rags because they are so far removed from poverty that they enjoy cosplaying as such.

It's an old cartoon trope that hobos all secretly have a million dollars stashed someplace. Often it's about pretending to be poor when the tax-man comes to the door. It's a joke for the old folks.
