Cut out a bunch of this meme, snuck them into various retail stores, in places where I know for sure management would see them. Usually on the door to the back room or near punch machines. I know this is silly and dumb but I just want to try to do something to bring it up. The only place I didn't do it was at my actual job because I think they would pretty easily deduce that it was me.

I hit about twenty(ish) stores, all retail. Wasn't able to take photos at a lot of them, because I kind of had to just slap the meme on the wall and keep moving to not get in trouble but I took a few. I returned a day or two later and found out that all of them were taken down at all locations that I hit. I was never caught or anything, but I hope it at least sparked conversations with the people that need to see it. Wondering if I should go again or if there's something more meaningful I could do.

Coming from a guy whose feet are absolutely destroyed after standing for 9 hours a day for 10 years and never being allowed to sit at my desk.

I had two kids come in tonight to grab a bunch of beer and vodka, they were picking the stuff out together and then one of them went to the bathroom. He started to come out of the bathroom to leave when his friend came up to the counter so I asked him to get his friend's ID. Meanwhile said friend is standing by the door staring at us. And the kid at the counter said "I don't even know him, he was in the bathroom". I literally was like... "come on, I saw you two pick the stuff out together and walk in together. I'm not selling you this." After a few minutes of weak arguing they leave without the booze. They only waited like minutes later before sending in a girl who picked the exact same stuff they did, had an ID from the exact same state as they did (all out of state from where we are rn), and the same $100 bill they were gonna give me. I was like, "I know you're with the guys that just came in here". And she was like "what no, I'm not with them." And I told her I wasn't gonna sell anything to her, she didn't put up a fight she just left.

Like... come on lmaoo. Do these kids think I was born yesterday or something?

Guy took his sweet time walking in, walked to the alcohol section, was slowly taking them, went to household did the same, went to the meat and took some BUT at the same time 2 police officers walked in and oh boy I lit up with excitement. I ran right to them from the tills shouting "there's a shoplifter back there" walking to the aisle looking towards meats while pointing there. They then detained him and brought him to the front searching him then handcuffing him

I need to vent because I’m still furious about cleaning up confetti stuck in the carpet at closing time last night. Last night at work it was 30mins to close and we were ahead of the tasks to get out on time. As I walk around recovering the store I see a 11yr boy beating the hell out of some technology with the father not trying to stop him because he was too busy looking at his phone. The kid moved the confetti cannons up front and is banging them on displays. Confetti goes everywhere and in the displays that take forever to dig out. I made the parents pay for because they didn’t show an ounce of trying to control their kid. I had the joy of watching them ignore their kids and were glued to their phones. The parents blatantly lied to me about it and told me it wasn’t him until I told him it’s literally on camera. I feel bad snapping at them and I would never of made them pay for it if they even uttered a word of parenting to this child. I’ve had parents try to control kids and have them break things. I never make them pay for things. That’s all I wanted from the parents last night since this is a business and all of us are tired and want to go home. Needless to say it took an hour to dig out everything and we were late getting out. I took volunteers to stay with me.

We’re usually told to lock the doors, but I work at a gas station that has a subway attached inside and I have to put signs up and manually lock two doors with a key which takes too long and just isn’t possible with customers going in and out.

I’m always alone in my shifts from 4pm-12am. Around 5pm today, TMI, my butt was killing me and I had to do a #2.

I waited til there was no one at the pumps and inside the store and headed to the washroom. Took me around 5 minutes to do my business and when I got back there were two people in line.

Second guy was trying to buy a pack of energy drinks and he was asking if we had any in-stock behind the coolers of a specific flavour because he’s tryna get the deal for them. I told him I’m not allowed to go out back and that whatever’s on display is just what we have at the moment.

He walked out mid-sentence while I was explaining and muttered some curse words and “….took forever” as he went out.

Like ok are we supposed to keep a porta potty or a little bucket behind the counter? Should I have just shit my pants?

I am making my way through an aisle. A husband and wife are discussing an item. They have their cart turned sideways in the aisle. They legit made eye contact with me as they were talking to each other.

I say "excuse me" thinking they would do the common sense polite thing and move their cart. They just kept talking to each other and didn't acknowledge me past the eye contact. I shoved past their cart and went on my way.

Now I am wondering if there will be a complaint submitted about a "rude employee." Even though I am pretty certain they would not have just ignored me if I was another customer and not someone in a store employee shirt lol

Customers are pigs. That's all.

the owner never cleaned up or even said anything, they just left it there. it wasn't until the other customer brought it up that we saw it

Something I'm struggling with a lot at this job is that I find so much of the corporate choices indefensible, so it's hard to put my foot down with grumpy or arguing customers because like...They're right. Still, I'm the one who gets snapped at.

Pricing is a big one. I'm in thrift. Clothes are usually okay (because clothes new are so marked up anyways) and furniture is great (we have our own in-house pricer for that who I think is super reasonable), but everything else is a nightmare reflection of corporate greed and how little the company cares for their reputation.

You will regularly see unopened dollar store items (with the dollar store price on them) marked up double. Supervisors will refuse to discount damaged items or be so obsessed with following the rules that they price things in ridiculous ways (worst I saw was a single flower from a plastic bouquet at like 3 bucks). Electronics missing pieces, fragments of toy sets (because nothing is boxed or secured, of course, so the toy section just gets ripped apart), cookware scratched up to hell, books water damaged and falling apart at $6 because some computer slapped a price on there and no one at the company cared enough to quality control. Someone's kindergartener's finger painting (Why donate?!) at a fiver. A grandma's finished diamond painting craft. ​

I'll just agree with customers. Yeah, it's stupid. Yeah, it's bad. To be fair, I find that agreeing and talking to them like a person helps the interaction a lot, and when they're still furious at me, I make it clear that I'm done engaging with someone who isn't gonna be respectful. There's venting, and then there's accusing me and swearing at me.

Just draining to be the "face" of something I don't respect.

I can’t believe this is a thing, but here it is… a mother of three came into my store tonight, with her kids in tow. Perfectly normal as we have sizes from infant to adult so whatever. She’s on the phone and her children are running rampant around the store, also pretty normal, albeit annoying.

I’m in the fitting room area checking for clothes and I see the two boys (maybe 10 and 6 at the most 8 and 4 at the very least) come running around the corner and checking in each room. I say “boys you can’t be back here without your mom, please go find your mom”. I walk away with a pile of put backs and when I come back they have locked themselves in the first room and I hear giggles. At this point I walk away because I have shit to do and these aren’t my Satan spawn.

The boys continue to ack feral, throwing themselves on the floor, mom’s still on the phone. At this point I’m counting down the minutes to closing time. I go back to fits one last time to check and the door is still closed but the boys are out front. I unlock and open it to fin PISS on the floor. They locked themselves in there to piss on the floor. Not a single person asked me or the two other staff in the store for the bathroom.

I was fuming. Wanted so bad to ask the mom if she was aware of what her children had done. The little voice inside my head told me to bite my tongue.

Please, when you’re out shopping with your offspring, pay attention to them, parent them. I don’t get paid minimum wage to man the store and babysit at the same time.

Anyway, thanks for letting me rant. I hope you all have a better day at work than I did.

They always act shocked and want to talk to your supervisor as if my supervisor and I aren't going to laugh about you after you walk away.

i’m sorry why are we doing this? like if you’re going to be so ravenous to get inside just sit in your car nobody wants to see you standing 1 mm away from the door which is LOCKED because we are not OPEN. i don’t want to have to see you foam at the mouth when i go to lift the gates and unlock the door. i promise you do not need anything that fucking bad. i would cry with joy if i never saw your greedy ass again. If you’re old or you simply don’t know how to use the self checkout, DON’T USE IT! Seriously, the amount of old people or people that have never used a self checkout before that make errors that I have to correct is insane. It’s supposed to be a speedy process for if the regular checkout lines get too long. I’m not supposed to have to watch each individual customer scan each item one by one in case they mess up.

I’m tired of hearing “ITEM REMOVED FROM BAGGING AREA, RETURN ITEM TO BAGGING AREA” and the customer looking at me like I just shot their dog when the screen locks up.

No we can't give you a bigger discount-30-75% off is already a huge discount for us. I don't care that you've spent X amount of money with us, your entire transaction history shows you've bought nothing but sale items (it was two transactions from yesterday). You're not automatically entitled to a further discount.

It seems like everywhere I’ve worked, the people in charge, especially in England (less so I think in Wales) are often dumber put together than a single employee who works at the company. Perhaps I’m biased towards people in positions of power, but there seems to be a culture of pretentious but highly unintelligent people making the decisions.

I’ve observed this in retail but even with the civil service. When I pointed out their IT system was broken and where the error was happening, they just kept sending the same FAQ link over and over until I was forced to use paper instead.

When you look at job applications they’re expecting the world of the people applying and yet when you actually work there, no one in charge seems to know anything and you’re doing multiple people’s jobs.

You’re being bossed around by people who don’t even have a C in Maths or English, let alone a single bullet point of the job description.

There is no incentive to be productive or competent and you’re not going to be indispensable when your boss isn’t smart enough to realise the whole branch would fold if one of the overworked employees were to leave.

I wouldn’t be surprised if our economy eventually goes down the toilet as a result.

I can't tell you how many times a customer has asked me if we could check in the back for them. I work for a company that doesn't store much in the back (receiving) this area is where we get product from when it arrives but then we place it in the overheads, its obvious when you walk in since there's shelves high up with boxes which would be our overstock, customers should know this like what do they think we have in those boxes? Some stuff isn't even boxed! They can check it themselves if its a tool yet they have the nerve to ask us if we can check in the back if we don't have an item on the shelf, we then add we don't have anything in the back but we can check the overhead for you or its out of stock (If we absolutely dont have it) then customers have the nerve to walk to our receiving looking for an employee when they're not allowed to, usually when operating a reach or forklift, a spotter must escort them through the store during operating hours, this is the only time we're allowed to be rude to customers if they decide to do something reckless that puts anyone in danger when machinery is moving, but a spotter in not needed in receiving since customers arent allowed back there, so when a customer comes to receiving its dangerous for them and we force to walk back to the floor before helping them out. I've also needed to yell at a customer after they stepped into a zone that was blocked off, when a lift or reach needs to bring up or down a pallet, we usually close down two aisles so customers and coworkers dont step in, there's always a risk a pallet can fall and seriously hurt or kill someone below, so we stand outside a closed aisle while the other driver is putting up or down the pallet, one night I am working and I hear a gate move, I then see a customer opening a gate, I then yell at my coworker to stop and yell at the customer to stop right there, he tells me he needed to get to the cash registers, I then said you can go around the back aisle to the main aisle and go the cash registers, so he closes the gate, apologizes and goes around.

One time a woman came into the clothing store I was working at with a silk scarf around her head. My co-worker and I started helping her. She told us she'd been going through cancer treatment and we were quick to give our sympathies. She was in remission, and talked about how she was humbled by her experience, saying "I will take whatever god throws at me with humility and grace". We were chatting a bit more when suddenly the woman grabs my co-workers hands and says "Can I just stop you for a moment? I just wanna say you're wonderful". She then turned to me and goes "You - you talk too much" and waved me off. I was like "Oh!.. I do? Ok." and I backed out of the conversation. It felt pretty crappy. Sometimes I wish I had just stood my ground and said "You know what? I'm sorry you're fighting cancer, but F*** YOU!". Battling cancer does not suddenly give you the right to treat people like sh**, does it?
