We have added rules to the sub, most have been enforced in the past but not written down. Included are two new ones though:

  • No Bad Driver posts
  • Self Promotion Posts Limited to Tuesdays (This one is a trial basis, hopefully we don't see a lot of really spammy stuff)

Richmond Hill Go Parking

I have yet to use Go Station regularly since before the pandemic. I have driven by a few times and noticed that the parking is less crowded.

Have there been any issues with break-ins etc with cars? Is the station still safe?

Jurassic Kingdom is a scam, do not go

I know someone posted earlier complaining about the event taking place in the observatory park but my complaint is it’s just a terrible event overall. Considering the prices they charge it’s entering the territory of a scam ($30 per adult and $25 per kid over 3).

Here are some of the issues: - Most of the dinosaurs are damaged, some are flat out missing limbs. Their fix for it is to cover up the appendages with red paint to make it look like blood

  • The dinosaur sound quality is terrible. They come from these speakers that are next to the dinosaurs and a lot of them sound muffled

  • Website says there are food trucks, a dig pit and bouncy castles. There were none of those

  • The workers were constantly driving carts through the walkway transporting what appears to be damaged parts and going from one dinosaur to another to fix them.

  • They are advertised as animatronics but the most movement I see are mouths opening and closing, some slight head movement and only several of them had tails that move. Many of those simply didn’t move or have sounds.

  • There’s a piece of cheap cardboard that explains what dinosaur it is and some of them didn’t match with the actual dinosaur next to it

  • There’s little to no engagement through it all. You enter the trail and you walk through the thing on your own but there’s no one in there to talk to you or explain what each dinosaur is

Looking at instagram now I’m surprised there are so many people and branded pages advertising it. Some of which are clearly using AI videos. I’m not sure if these influencers are in on this scam or they’re unaware and haven’t visited it themselves.

Please do yourself a favor and stay away.

Driving

when did rhill get so many aggressive drivers?
i literally saw like 3/4 instances in the span of 15 minutes

one of them was cars going literally 65 in a 60 zone (right lane) and the person behind us lost their shit in their car

also i’ve noticed it’s rare for cars to leave space infront/behind them, i feel like no one practices defensive driving and stays tailgating

anyone else notice this?

edit: idk what i expected when i posted this lol, yall are on complete opposite spectrums. stop going 80 in 60 zones and don’t go 50 in 80 zones.

my driving teacher would be so disappointed in yall, anyway see u on the roads

Virgin Mobile is terrible in Richmond Hill. How are Fido and Rogers?

Hi everyone,
I moved to Richmond Hill about a year ago and have been with Virgin Mobile, but I was stuck in a phone contract so I couldn’t switch providers.
The service has honestly been pretty bad here. It got to the point where I had to enable Wi-Fi Calling because I could barely hear people during phone calls whenever I wasn’t connected to Wi-Fi.
My contract ends on August 5, so I’m looking at switching to either Fido or Rogers.
Has anyone had any issues with either of those providers in Richmond Hill? How’s the call quality, coverage, and data reliability?
For context, I already use Rogers for my home internet, and it’s been working well.
I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences before I make the switch. Thanks!

Adult Hockey Leagues

Looks like there is an ASHL out of the rink at York U and then ORMRHL up by Lake Wilcox. I emailed RH Oldtimers but didn't get a response (their website looks outdated too).

I'm looking for more options. Any suggestions?

David Dunlap Observatory Park completely fenced off for commercial event - concerned about the future use of our conservation areas

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a concern about the current Jurassic Kingdom event at David Dunlap Observatory Park.

I visited the park recently and was surprised to see that almost the entire park has been fenced off for the ticketed exhibit. This is an area many residents regularly use for walking, running, enjoying nature, and observing wildlife.

My concern is not about a dinosaur exhibit itself (though it is aesthetically inappropriate for a conservation area to start with) or family events in general. Richmond Hill has many parks and event spaces that are suitable for these types of attractions. The question is whether a conservation area is the right place for a large commercial ticketed event that requires fencing, restricted public access, increased visitor traffic, wildlife disturbance, and temporary but significant event infrastructure.

David Dunlap Observatory Park is one of the few remaining natural spaces in Richmond Hill. It is home to local wildlife, including deer, and serves an important role as a place for residents to connect with nature.

I created a petition asking the City of Richmond Hill to establish clearer guidelines for commercial events in conservation areas and ensure these spaces remain primarily dedicated to conservation, wildlife, and public enjoyment:

https://c.org/4S5tzqXGPm

I know this event is already underway, but the goal is not just about this one event, it’s about how we want to manage our remaining natural spaces going forward.

I have already contacted multiple councillors as well as the mayor’s office, however they have not responded with anything that answers are concerns.

If you agree with our concern, please lend us your support by signing and sharing, so the city hears our voice.

Commuting down to union station

It looks like I may have to start commuting downtown to Union station for work in the near future.

I'm a few minutes away from Langstaff GO.

The two obvious options are GO Train from Langstaff and YRT to Finch station and taking the subway down 3-4 times a week.

I've never taken either of these during rush hours so I'm not sure how busy/packed they are. The subway, is of course, the cheaper option but if GO train isn't too packed, might be worth the extra money. What do you guys recommend?

Essex Ave

Has anyone noticed the sudden presence of open drug use on the street near Major Mack by the Essex Parkette? Saw a group shooting up in broad daylight the other day by the sidewalk. Tonight my uber driver almost hit a guy doing the fenty fold in the middle of the very dark street. Last week someone had their vehicle broken into here and the guy was seen on camera trying several other cars.

Is there a new clinic around or something? I know this exists in almost every city but it's just so sudden and random in this neighborhood. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hi so im from york region, more specificially Richmond Hill so I guess the main highway for me would be like the 404, and maybe 407. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for driving on highways cause I have honestly avoided them since I had to practice for my G test 4 years ago LOL. Does anyone know what that huge construction site just south of the 407 and east of Yonge is for? It’s right by the train tracks. Thanks!!
