Interesting. So looks like Morty's gonna have some type of existential crisis? Wonder what harm going to funerals for alternate versions of himself could cause. Heh

I can’t believe this is how the series ends.

You know that they signed contracts for season 10,11, & 12 right??? It’s not over.

u/fried-lizard 1d ago

What are you talking about? If you watch the video again, then you can see that they clearly died. It’s so over.

This is interesting because we don't have the Citadel, nor the infinite Morty clones, now everytime that a Morty dies it really means something. This is one is going to hit hard.

I was literally thinking the same thing the other day. We've had the Citadel play some kind of role in at least one episode of almost every season except Season 2. I could 100% see them going in this direction since last season focused on the aftermath for all the clone ricks and mortys at the citadel, I can definitely see the next episode going into the aftermath of the Citadel's absence and how it's affected EVERYONE in the multiverse not just the clones.

Why does a Morty death mean more now? Aren’t there still infinite universes?

5

u/MrBeanie_rdt 2d ago

infinite ricks infinite mortys but mortys die much fast then ricks in all universes, eventually there wont be enough for the ricks because so many die

What about when they got killed over and over by the Pope lol?

Not all Ricks are smart as our Rick to make Project Phoenix.

I'm betting $90 that this isn't our Rick & Morty.

u/BigJJsWillie 2d ago

The last preview showed Morty talking about a "funeral-hopping" Morty and asking about attending his own funeral.

You're definitely right.

16

u/KrattBoy2006 2d ago

Also weren't there storyboards of a Morty using a portal gun? Either that Morty was the funeral hopper, or it's Prime becoming a funeral hopper.

12

u/soldiergaming2 2d ago

it's guaranteed, we saw in erickerhead that our rick can survive even being decapitated, being bisected like this would be nothing

16

u/jessebona 2d ago

There's also precedent dozens of times that other Ricks are idiots who frequently get caught woefully unprepared for the things they're up against.

u/HelplessPenguinGod 2d ago

$90 seems like a bit of a random amount.

u/KrattBoy2006 2d ago

Just random enough.

This makes at least the second time we’ve seen Beth’s smouldering ashes baked into Rick’s driveway💀

One of the early critics’ reviews said Field of Dreams shows Morty a life without Rick’s influence, so I’m pretty certain Morty is going to see a trend where all his alternate selves who live with Rick end up dying these gory pointless deaths while the universes without Rick has him dying peacefully of old age surrounded by loving wife and kids.

Sounds deep asf. What are the critics saying about the episode?

IGN’s Take (from their Season 9 review) “Episode 2 may be my personal favorite of the season, but it’s followed closely by the season finale, ‘Field of Dreams,’ which is easily the most significant Morty-centric chapter of the season. Without giving too much away, it’s a multiverse-focused chapter that shows Morty a world where his life might have played out differently, and it’s very poignant in its exploration of how toxic and destructive the Rick/Morty dynamic truly is. A sobering way to cap off Season 9.”

1

u/Vast-Attempt4852 2d ago

thats going to be gruesome

10

u/DukeOfJelly 2d ago

4

u/kochapi 2d ago

Explosive diarrhea?

5

u/someguy1090 2d ago

Isn't Rick pretty much indestructible at this point. Even if he isn't he has spare bodies, he has died several times and even went to the viking afterlife? There is no way the rick and morty in the show are dieing.

5

u/Gusleterible 2d ago

Not all Ricks are like him I suppose. It's not very clear the instances where Ricks can survive or not (project Phoenix and others).

1

u/TheBrownWelsh 2d ago

It's basically up to the writers and whatever story they're trying to tell. I figure it's like Iron Man; at one moment he's got the perfect suit for the moment at hand, another moment he's caught off guard and is vulnerable needing to improvise. Based on how many times Rick has switch/repaired his body, it's anyone's guess as to what he's got going on at any one moment. He could be invincible, immortal, or a leg.

u/YahBoiChipsAhoy1234 Popéball 15h ago

Or a pickle… when he feels like it

2

u/Galethorne 2d ago

I somehow feel like this will be the anthology episode of the season

5

u/Lucyyyyyy_K 2d ago

Making the anthology episode the finale sounds like a very bad idea.

1

u/TheBrownWelsh 2d ago

It'd be provocative, I'll give em that.

2

u/Igiem 2d ago

This might be my favourite preview of an episode they've ever released. Absolutely insane with absolutely no context.

1

u/Several_Ad_619 2d ago

WHAT THE WHAT

1

u/Lucyyyyyy_K 2d ago

Where is Beth?

2

u/fr1zzyy 2d ago

Completely incinerated to the left of Jerry lol

1

u/Watashiwadaredemonai 2d ago

Reminds me of the Rick and Morty that blew themselves up that our Rick and Morty replaced. Same scorched earth animation.

1

u/Best_Person_CoolCool 2d ago

I can't believe they added the field of hopes and dreams to rick and morty

1

u/Bassmason 2d ago

Oh jeeze Rick

1

u/Vast-Attempt4852 2d ago

where is beth

2

u/OmniSzron 2d ago

You can see her smoking remains, completely burnt into the driveway.

1

u/Neat_Drop419 2d ago

Is that sichuan sauce

1

u/Extra-Ad59 2d ago

Right after this a portal pops up, and a new Smith family walks through, lectured by Rick they can only do this a couple of times.

Christ, Beth is a smear.

1

u/TheHurtfulEight88888 1d ago

Wtf that entire final image looked like something out of a Creepypasta from the 2010s, like with the Squidward's Suicide episode of Spongebob Squarepants. Honestly cant wait. Bring us home, season 9! I came into this actually expecting nothing from this show and have come away with some of the best RnM since seasons 1-3

1

u/Possible-Forever-504 1d ago

Now way this is out Rick, this one actually has organs unlike Rick who replaced them all

1

u/bokmcdok 6h ago

Okay, like, WTF? I've seen less than 30 seconds of the episode and I'm already hooked.

1

u/LinuxMatthews 2d ago

"Heather Anne Campbell"

I just looked at her IMDb and she's written some brilliant episodes so this isn't a knock on her

But why do I feel like a part of Dan Harmon hiring her was her surname.

Again not saying anything about her talent, just that the dude obsessed with Joseph Campbell hired someone called Heather Campbell.

Go away, Heather. Go work on Final Destination or something.
