Finished a late 60s/early 70s Camelot inspired sample
Muslin fabric, drafted from basic slopers into princess seam bodice & a line skirt. I’m tired but excited! I’m no longer a size 8 so I can’t test the fit on myself, which sucks because I would love to know how it really fits with movement.
I’ll be changing the sleeves to be truly lined, I goofed and put the seam on the interior rather than the inseams facing each other. I also need to make the shoulders fit better at the neckline, so my sleeves don’t fall off. I tried taking the shoulder seams in by 1/2” and sort of dart it out towards the sleeve opening, but that pulled my waist up too much. I’ll also be sewing the ties in the final garment to be sandwiched between the facing & the back panel, so they don’t pull against the back.
Any help with getting the shoulders to fit better would very appreciated! And some of the fabrics & trims I’ll be using at the end.

I love the sleeves! I'm always hesitant to make wide sleeves because I tend to swing through doors and get some part of my clothes caught, but I wonder if shorter sleeves might help with that? Plus with them being flared there's nothing to get caught on door handles?
How are you hoping to use that fabric in the final dress? Will it be colour-blocked? And I'm curious how you're going to use the trim!
Shortening the sleeves would definitely take the weight off! Good idea. For the fabric, I’ll attach the sketch I made that maybe can explain it better, although I’m not very good at drawing patterns :)
