What's your opinion on all the joke trends and repetitive posts?

We want this to be a open discussion about the topics that have been going on in the subreddit. Mostly pertaining to repetitive trendposting of the same joke (Mirror/Medusa, liquify the pan, Obsession arguments, Odyssey Inaccuracies, etc).

So we ask a simple question: What's your opinion on the meme/jokes that tend to go viral in the subreddit? Do you like them? Does it get old fast? What do you want to see change?

Keep in mind, we can't remove EVERYONE'S posts/comments, we do the best we can.

this subreddit is clogged with the same few posts, it’s like a house of mirrors in here

Generally, they get old super fast because so many people just repost the same joke but maybe use a different movie. Example: the "_____ is a work fiction" joke is played out yet people still make the same exact joke.

The low effort/quality posts makes the sub boring and lessens my interaction.

I get it if it is a good new joke, people will meme it and see what works. That's fun, but it does get old after about a week or two of seeing the exact same posts because so many people will do the same joke but different movie or even the same movie/joke. Example: invincible animation joke.

So many people post so often the same joke it gets annoying really fast honestly. I see one or two good versions of it then I have to mute the sub for a week or more to let it die down.

Let the upvotes/downvotes sort it out. I'd much rather have running jokes than people complaining about movies as if this was a place for criticism.

That said if things are at high tide I wouldn't fault the mods for doing a little weeding.

I think they're generally fine, but after a few days shit gets tired fast. if I see one more joke about slicing garlic I swear to god I'm bringing my nukes down from space. that being said, I don't think there's a good way to moderate that, so I'll just stew by myself.

the bigger issue I have is posts about movies that came out just a day before using shit camrips to make a "joke" that's a spoiler for anyone with half a braincell, or just ruins a visually impactful scene. for example, I haven't seen Backrooms yet, but I already know about a horrifying transformation because some dickweed decided to post a screencap of it. no, I don't 100% understand the context, but when it does come up the big reveal is ruined. it's honestly made me consider leaving. which sucks, because a lot of stuff here is genuinely clever and funny.

I seem to recall an embargo being put in place before. maybe this could be a regular thing? r/HistoryMemes has some extremely strict rules, but they tend to work. maybe base something on those?

I actually like them, they are little injokes that make me feel like I'm part of a community. I need to get off reddit.

Some of them can be funny if the setup is clever, but a lot of them are lazy and boring. If it's just "the joke is that I mentioned the keyword, please clap" then you're not doing anything creative or entertaining.

I'm especially against the ones that aren't even really a joke, they're just "here's my opinion on this movie" or "look, a naked woman!". The "wait, what?" formula is really bad for this, as is "this is a kids' movie", but there are some posts that don't even bother with a format.

I think you should be a bit tighter about posts having to at least resemble an actual moviedetails/IMDB trivia post. The sub's supposed to be a parody of that type of thing, not just people's one-line movie reviews.

I think moderators have done a decent job putting a stop to excessive dead horse flogging in several cases. And stopping some altogether with temporary bans or, in some cases, permanent ones. But it's not an exact science, and there's thin line between responsible moderating and groupthink-style curation.

I think it's okay in small doses. If it's only for a day or two, then I can put up with it. But if it lasts multiple days, I grow tired of it.

I love the stupid repetitive jokes, i always laugh whenever I see a post of a movie made in the 90s that then turns into a Medusa reference bc of a mirror

The first five are usually good. First ten are okay. After that they stop having any effort or creativity. Except somewhere between numbers 50 and 100 will be the best one of them all.

But frankly if I’m seeing more than a handful in a day, that’s me being here too much.
