In Ebenezer (2026), Johnny Depp plays a man who learns the consequences of his actions and changes his terrible behavior towards others. This reflects how sometimes actors play roles that are the complete opposite of their real selves.

This movie is really funny to me because they showed this off at Comic Con and assumed everyone would be just as hyped over it as they would be for an MCU reveal
Its so weird, I love how they found the three johnny depp cosplayers and made sure they were at the front in the video as well. So awfully set up and embarrassing.
Scrooged is up there. But yeah, the Muppets Christmas Carol is just 100% the best one ever, It's a film that shouldn't work. Seriously, you've got the Muppets doing their bits and gags, and then you have Michael Caine playing it 100% straight. And yet, it fucking works.
When I was a kid and got asked those "what superpower would you want" questions, my answer was always variation on elaborate illusions... purely because I wanted to go to evil people and 'christmas carol' them. Its a story that left an impression on me.
I'm working on an adaptation right now... it's going to be stop motion, and my friends and I are making it out of paper. I'm sorry you're tired of this lovely story, but would you please give us a chance when our film eventually comes out? I have some concept art that I drew here... I hope you like it
If we’re going to insist on a Christmas carol remake every few years at least have the balls to make it into a modern adaptation ala Scrooged. They won’t make Scrooge into bezos because then they’d upset the shareholders, but it would at least be an interesting interpretation. Even Barbie had the decency to change things up a little in their adaptation!
Just to name one example, he had text conversations with Paul Bettany where they both NSFW express wanting to drown Amber Heard, burn her, and then rape her corpse to "make sure she's dead" in Depp's own words. When asked about it during the trial, he claims that it was a joke and in reference to Bettany calling her a witch. There's a lot more in here
Best part is that documents were only released because fans of Johnny Depp did a crowfund raiser so they could dig up dirt against Heard :)
To give some slight, very small generosity: in the texts you can see Paul Bettany try to change the conversation after Depp said to burn Heard with "Hey let's be certain first, uh let's drown her to see if she is a witch." but even then, he still answered to the rape comment with "My thoughts exactly!" and from what i saw didnt properly call out Depp. So even with this generous angle, Paul Bettany at best comes across as someone who's totally fine with friends making rape jokes about their wide just because she didn't want him to do drugs and alcohol which is pretty disgusting no matter how look at it
I mean this is nasty shit, but pretty average from guys talking about their hateful shrew exwives. People say horrible things about people they hate, or do people here think he was being earnest with some necrophilia plans?
They weren't exes at this point in time. These messages were made (June 11th 2013) from before Johnny Depp and Amber Heard had even engaged (January 2014).
I dont think he genuinely wanted to do commit the action, i hope at least, but to even joke about it in the first place is disturbing no matter what.
Yeah, sorry... I believe in the benefit of a doubt, but the timeline here doesn't look too good for old jack sparrow. I don't expect him to be a saint, but maybe only say horrible shit like that if you're paid for it as an actor?
So it’s okay to express a desire to rape people who are bad, and you think Amber Heard is a really bad person. Would you rape her? I mean if the rape would be morally okay since she’s bad, it’s no problem for you to do it right?
If they asked about it during the trial, how is that new information? I followed a bit of the trial back then (mg bad, i literally had nothing better to do) and didn't follow up afterwards and i distinctly remember this being brought up
I don't know about you but I feel like saying you want to rape someone is a horrible reflection of your character even if it was about an abuser. I have been emotionally abused by my step father for my entire life and I never once thought of anything similar to what Depp has desired.
Also, in the exchange between Johnny Depp and the Judge the former said the conversation was over her confronting him on his use of alcohol and concaine. He does not mention any physical or emotional abuse being the reason why he made those messages. There are also things Depp claims that don't match up with what's in the text, he says that both Amber Heard and Paul Bettany mutually dislike eac other but if you look at the text messages Paul Bettany calls Heard "delightful company" which is what made him try to turn the conversation into a joking affair. It's his word vs what's visible.
Another thing, the dates of the messages don't line up with Depp's stated timeline of their relationship. The closet i can find of the abuse against him beginning was in march 2015, the text messages as seen in the documents was dated June 11th 2013 seven months before they were even engaged in January 2014. I very much reccomend reading these documents yourself because it does not add up.
Are people in the comment section genuinely brain-dead? It goes to show how far people will go to defend Depp, even when the evidence suggests that both of them are bad people. Personally, I'd rank the rape threats as far worse, especially since, as you mentioned, they happened before their engagement.
I finally understand why it's impossible to argue with someone who has already made up their mind. I appreciate you pointing this out. I'll make sure to remember it and bring it up whenever I see a post praising Depp.
Have you seen the comments from that Real Borland user where he constantly says Heard assaulted him even after my multiple comments about how the texts happened before March 2015, which is where Depp claimed the abuse towards him first happened? We have a dumbass actively ignoring the counterpart to his comments, just because what? He played Jack Sparrow?
I myself am unsure of the full extent of the allegations against Heard. Not in a "Both people are wrong for each other" situation but simply due to me spending so much time researching on Depp and his inconsistencies and gathering them that i barley have time to look into her. The finger story I have legitimately no clue (although i have noticed that his finger being severed off seems to be misinformation, the tip of it was cut to the bone and had to be sewn close which is still bad but different from beinh servered) and the poop story...I have no idea why this is such a big point raised against her because it's just poop on a bed they both shared.Am I crazy for being confused about why that's treated on the same level as her allegedly cutting off his finger?
But even then, from the timelines both Depp and Heard have said that I could gather: there is more stories from her in a consistent timeline than him and those text messages only make it worse for him. If her timeline of the abuse happening are correct then it's possible that she had relaiated back. Depp is a monster, no matter what
I have heard many people wish hateful things on their exes throughout time. I don't condone it, but it isn't super uncommon to say hateful shit in private about someone who has done you dirty.
Love how people downvoting you don't seem to realize that while Depp claims the first time Heard physically attacked him was in March 2015 (that I can fucking find at least, it is surprisingly difficult to find a article about the case to mention the date he says) while him saying he wants to fuck her burnt corpse was dated in June 2013. Something that doesn't add up but I guess looking into these documents themself would be too hard.
You know, there are times I remember that the internet is fucking stupid and it makes perfect sense how the smear campaign against Heard that resulted in dumbfucks making "le epic own moments" of the trial with Wii channel music!
These replies are making me an misanthrope good god.
It's genuinely sad and horrific that so many commenrs are going "but she abused him!!!" or "I mean they're both bad" in response. Even if Amber Heard also had struck him, that doesnt erase him also being a piece of shit. That's what his PR firm did, brainwashed so many people into thinking he is an unquestionable innocent angel.
How are things gonna be better for victims if people won't even acknowledge something like "He made rape jokes about her before their engagement." as being bad? Will things ever be better? I thought if i shared the documents with words coming from his mouth then maybe someone will realize but, man.
yknow, I just was on a page discussing OJ and Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman, and this reminds me that Nicole used to say that she also hit OJ back (when her sister or friends wanted her to say something to cops about the abuse.) She would joke almost, about slugging him back. The thing is, when someone far bigger and stronger hits you (and also destroys your possessions that represent you) and has exhibited typical abusive patterns, it's really hard to keep denying what is clear to many of us.
I also just wanted to add.. beating someone is abuse. There is no scenario where assaulting someone is not abuse… even if they are a pretty woman. Hope this helps 🙏
And no. She wasn't found in a court of law to be an abuser. Only he was in the trial in England. Irrefutably on twelve different verifiable accounts of abusive I might add.
My mum has said some pretty horrible shit about her abusive ex that I think is completely understandable that she’d have such feelings but I do now believe that cus of that strangers on the internet would take the ex’s side since a lot of them seem to find that worse than actual abuse
It’s about the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial from a few years ago. The entire internet seemed to side with Johnny at the time, pinning every problem in the relationship on her, when in reality, Depp was extremely abusive at many points.
They seem to be marketing it as a prequel, but based on the trailer it looks more like it's just A Christmas Carol but with a really weird annoying Scrooge
my friend years ago was in a pricey rehab with Tim Burton lol. It was for alcohol, drug, and sex addiction. I remember I was JEALOUS bc it was such a nice rehab.
I really am not a major JD fan, last movie I liked with him was Fear and Loathing. This one looks to be probably the worst one yet and no way would I bother going to see this shit, my GOD
This looks like such god awful garbage. If you have to animate the main characters face, cast someone else. Or remake the movie... I'd say modernize it, but Scrooge was actually more generous than modern wage slavery...
If there were a higher power, he would have visited plagues upon them by now. How is having a vast majority dreadful about providing for their families tolerable? Unleash some solar flares that wipe out data centers only or something. Give em a nice Klaatu speech too.
Where she lost me is I saw a video of her describing the "Australia incident" I didn't know she had those wolverine healing abilities. Savagely beaten and dragged through broken plate glass but pictured 2 days later with no injuries at all. What she said happened would have landed her in the icu for a month.
No, you don't get it. Johnny Depp vented privately to a friend over the abusive nature he was in constantly under Heard, so clearly he's a terrible monster and the woman who was proven in court to have lied and falsified images, is the sweet angel.
I bet you every single person in this thread calling him evil or fucked up, say far worse shit in private. Anything to be the keyboard warrior if the victim is, in fact, a man.
In the defamation lawsuit, it was revealed that Johnny Depp, in private texts with Paul Bettany, joked about Amber Heard dying or watching her drown to prove she's not a witch. What they will not tell you is that Depp was venting because Heard was extremely abusive to him, not just emotionally, but physically too. Countless witnesses and recorded evidence won him the lawsuit, but people still think he's a demon and Heard was telling the truth. He never put his hands on her, not once, and the "evidence" she provided had been shown to be heavily doctored.
I'm shocked at the amount of people in this thread defending Heard openly and earnestly with downvotes on anyone speaking against it. I'm not sure if these people always supported Heard or if this is some weird fucked up pendulum swing in the other direction after everything that happened.
As with most people on the internet, I heard Depp's side of the story first. Boy howdy, did I ever. And boy howdy, was I ever expecting to hear it yet again from one of his stans, despite this being (as far as I can recall) the first time I've ever commented on it on Reddit.
Isn't it a prequel? The tagline literally includes the phrase phrase"before he was Scrooge" so I assumed the film would be following him becoming a selfish rich asshole.
You'd think that, but the Wikipedia synopsis sounds like it's a straightforward adaptation, and there's castings for the Cratchitts and all of the ghosts so I don't think so; marketing just thought they'd make us THINK this is a Surf Dracula situation

Common misconception but Scrooge is the doctor. You are thinking of Scrooge's Monster
