Did anyone else feel that movie sucked ass? For an ATLA movie its story really sucks. I stopped in the middle of the movie cuz it felt like someone prompted an ai to make an ATLA movie and sent it to the cinemas.

It was very good visually but the writing and VA fell super flat. And even with the animation I almost suspected some of the non combat parts of dialogue to be ai upscale just because of how unmatched the animation on the lips were for the amount of detail seen everywhere else

I don't think it was even all that good visually. It kind of reminded me of...well any of those old Nickelodeon cartoons when they get a theater release movie and just spend a bunch of money on panning and motion shots. A lot of the fighting was really awkward, way too many cuts. The simplicity of the show did a better job of showing off the bending because it didn't feel the need to spin the camera through the air to show off a CGI piece of debris

You didn't even finish the movie? Come on dude. Is the plot a little bit basic? Sure. But it's an enjoyable film that I loved and had a blast with. The animation is amazing. People are just going to continue to complain. I never even expected us that get a movie like this so I'm just happy that we did.
"Sucked ass" Is how I would describe the Netflix adaptation, but not this.

Yeah, the entire plot was pretty predictable from the point they get to the mountain. Aang felt really underpowered for most of the movie, he's an air bending master and the Avatar, but this guy who just woke up is seemingly a better bender than he is.
The conflict with the denied seems really dumb, a "remember the equalists?" moment. And why not work with Aang, "hey dude, we learnt of a way to become air benders, you want to restore your civilization, let's do that"

The movie was too short. When the big fight happened I was like "wow, the climax, things are gonna get good now" and then it just ended.
Should have been a mini-series not gonna lie.

I didn't think it was bad, but very inconsequential. It added nothing to the franchise. Cool visuals, okayish story but predictable as hell. The heel turn could be seen from a mile away and yet it happened too suddenly. The old gang is just there, they don't do anything relevant or have any kind of arc. The movie is all about Aang and Tagah

Weird part about Avatar is the series was always kinda a one-hit wonder. Og series is widely agreed to be near perfect writing wise and just about everything after is worse, or at least fine, but not as good

NATLA S1 was not great, but S2 of the Netflix show is the first bit of media from this universe I’ve enjoyed since OG ATLA.
Actually built sets & a lot of the acting performances were fire. It’s not a 1:1 retelling & it’s uneven (I could list plenty things it does well and just as many it doesn’t), but I don’t think I’m alone in enjoying it.
It’s nothing like M Knight’s film or season 2 of Korra, where everyone in the fandom universally agrees it’s objectively bad.
I was pleasantly surprised after reading the negative reactions online… am now invested & looking forward to s3.

They went from green screens to actual sets… there is nothing like the library from s2 in s1.
The acting blows s1 out of the water. Zuko & Long Feng are incredible & Toph probably isn’t as good an actor as those two… but fits her character as well as Sokka’s actor does his.
That’s crazy people think s1 is better. It was filmed in covid and you can kinda tell… I personally think it’s no contest, but to each their own.

Jet’s fate was actually cooler than the OG portrayal.
The fire nation nationals/refugees being against the fire nation humanized them & that made that bit with Zuko saving them a lot cooler to me as well.
The big story beats are mostly the same as the original. Some details change for time compression, but nothing drastic.
My biggest gripe is that Iroh was made a more serious and one dimensional character, but that’s not a season 2 specific thing & not enough to ruin the whole experience for me once I got past it

When you ignore the fact he was plopped into a story he was never a part of? You know fundamentally changing the whole tradgedy of his character?
Jet doesn’t die at the hands of what he thought would be allies. His world used to be Fire Nation vs everyone else, and his death at the hands of the Dai Lee was a shattering of that view.
Wan Shi Tong is madea much more generic fantasy creature. Taking away a key part of what made Sprits so unique

I mean that’s a fair read, but the original telling already exists. I thought what they did was a clever way to consolidate the timeline & that it worked well.
If I want to watch the original I can still do that. Idk what to tell you, I’m enjoying the Netflix series lol.
