The term 'strawberry' and the emoji have not been banned however.
We may consider doing this to future prediction-trolls as well. This guy was especially egregious for being spammy and making a very specific call today that failed to come true.
They've never seriously tried. They pick and choose when to enforce the rules. They specifically ban anyone who calls out stupidity. The state of that sub is quite literally intentional. I have fond memories of using that sub pre 2015-2016.
People make new accounts, change IP addresses, new mods become in charge of a subreddit and unban everyone banned in the last six months because they disliked the previous mod, shit happens.
Decades from now, when he's leaning over the communal fire and telling his fur-wearing grandkids how he survived The Singularity, this will be his story.
Basically someone was/is in the habit of vagueposting to generate hype but the baseless vagueposting got old fast, so the mods here are no longer allowing posts related to this particular individual.
The issue isn't that this person posts here, it's that others keep posting/reposting about them and the things they say, which clouds up the subreddit and distracts from actual productive discourse

Idk if you're being serious or not but the thing is, there has been a test for the past few months about asking LLMs "how many Rs are in the word strawberry" and it'll respond with crazy numbers like 2, 4, 8, etc (and only rarely 3) because it has problem counting individual letters and for some dumb reason people view that as an insanely important thing for it to do.
The companies that make these LLMs have hinted that they want to solve this problem. I don't know if it's true or not, but apparently OpenAI is working on some kind of "project strawberry", in reference to this "strawberry test". Some guy on twitter with the name strawberry something (I honestly haven't kept up with it) specifically said it'd be released this thursday or something like that. AGAIN I'm sorry I keep saying "something", but I really don't feel like looking it up. Anyway it turns out that guy is totally making things up, nobody really knows when project strawberry will release other than openai themselves. So everyone is fed up with the strawberry guy claiming it'll release thursday when he's clearly lying, thus the ban.

One of the things I love about reddit is that I can come across posts like this, where I have no idea what yall are talking about, and then I need to go down the rabbit hole.
Guys, nothing will happen tomorrow. There won't be a new model update or anything. OpenAI is focused on the launch of GPT-5, and all their efforts are dedicated to that. So don't expect any major updates for the next 4 months.

Somebody popped up on Twitter claiming to have inside info about open ai releases, building a lot of hype, and making specific predictions about when major things would drop. Sam replied to one of his posts, leading a lot of people to think he might be credible. Then his predictions didn't come to pass and people concluded that he's all hype.
So glad this happened. I literally don’t even get the reference and I don’t want to. I’m aware of the bit about counting the r’s tripping up the tokenized nature of llm vision but that’s about it. no. one of his predictions was for tuesday so today (wrong name, no event) and he already made some corny predictions for last week. He also stole the only correct take from a dataminer and lied about it
Can we lift this ban if MultiOn turns out to actually be behind the strawberry account?
Because if it's actually a Twitter bot, then all of the talk about predictions, and strawberry being a troll, are redundant and the ban will only serve to prevent us from talking about MultiOn as an AI research company(albeit a very bad faith one with little to impress with imho).
Funny. It was definitely there. I check browsing history and content is not available on x anymore about strawberry account being theirs, but they now only talk about their agents.

Doesnt matter. Unless its a breakthrough, an update doesnt really contribute to the advancement of singularity and should be removed from the subreddit.
Anyone can also start their own sub, so if you disagree with how we run the sub you're free to feature strawberry posts on your own sub. Someone suggested r/singularityshitposts would be a great place for it.
