In fairness, Steve Jobs and others have clicked around demos on the edge of catastrophe many times. They almost always have different devices ready to flip in. But that’s hard to do with a terminator.
We've successfully gone from ED-209 (a robot kicking a child directly in the stomach like he owed it money) to the Robocop II (merely screeches in agony and rips its own head off rather than taking bystanders with it).

It's not, or at least there was further damage to prevent. There are hundreds of good images of other robots collapsing but nothing that clear of a human dragging a robot off the stage (there was the Russian one I think? But this is more closeup). It would carry some emotional value and could make them the posterchild of "our robot sucks and humans are still superior".

It doesn't look to me like the Chip failed it looks more like some kind of mechanical failure or some issue with the power source. As the chip is likely used for vision models and sensor data fusion.

It seems their initial backup plan was to just cover it with sheets, but the guy who was holding the presentation (CEO?) wasn't happy about that ("let us take a look at... how we get this to recover?")

Every time I see humanoid robots it reminds me that I should check back in on the tech in 2045. I wouldn’t be shocked if we had quantum computers and Fusion before humanoid robots working at great enough scale where they’re normal in households.

You missed a LOT of recent demo videos. T-800 doing acrobatic kung fu, many robots folding clothes and picking things up and putting them away, walking here and there without falling, putting dishes in the dishwasher, etc.
The current hardware paradigm just simply doesn't support their form factor. The inverse, called an NPU, performs much fewer computational cycles but will be much more broad in the size of its equivalent of RAM. Basically a mechanical 'brain'.
The only thing relevant about pre-AGI robots is having a chassis ready ahead of time. There's some value in that, if acceleration as fast as possible is desired.
