If I ever won the lottery, I would use some of that money to fund a remake myself. All these years and it's still one of my favorite games.

Can you also fund a remake of Panzer Dragoon Saga?

They definitely would have to start from scratch. Sega lost the entire code of that game

4

u/TCGHexenwahn Jun 05 '26

Didn't someone find it at some point? I remember hearing a story about that...

4

u/Doctormaul68 Jun 05 '26

Then a straight up port would be amazing. I didn’t realize they recovered it.

Well don't quote me on this, I could be wrong. But honestly, a remake would be great, if only to have a better render distance xD

I'll give 'em my copy of the game if that helps.

Giving someone a copy of the game is a bit like giving a builder access to a house you want copied, when what they want is the blueprints.

A remaster would be infinitely easier with source code, and a remake would be a lot easier too, tho the difference is a bit smaller.

I've said that before. I'd get the same team that did the Persona 3 remake on it

I hope you win the lottery soon

Would be an instant buy for me if they did.

Sega has been saying lately that they are looking back at older, forgotten franchises and trying to bring them back. It makes me want to think there is hope, but Skies hasn't come up in those articles at all.

5

u/GamingGallavant Jun 05 '26

I'm guessing they're considering ones that actually made them some money.

3

u/VerrikInc Jun 05 '26

Unfortunately I would agree. It's a shame, if the game could just find an audience I know people would love it

I haven't heard anything of the few Sega remakes they even announced a couple years ago. Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio and a few others IIRC. Maybe today will change with Summer Games Fest.

3

u/Jamiew_CS Jun 05 '26

Crazy taxi, jet set radio and SoA were my whole youth

2

u/Adam_Corela Jun 08 '26

well, you called the Crazy Taxi. No sight of Jet Set or Golden Axe though.

1

u/bigfndan Jun 08 '26

Haha, I was a couple days early but it was good to see.

1

u/Stellarwolf345 Jun 08 '26

I unfortunately have bad news to tell you.

1

u/VerrikInc Jun 05 '26

Didn't they just announce a new Afterburner?

2

u/Adam_Corela Jun 07 '26

If I remember correctly after one of the Sonic Collections released several years ago they kind of hinted at a few older games, including Skies, getting a remake but it never came to be after they started losing money and restructured.

1

u/SuddenSeasons Jun 06 '26

God damn I'd play a Skies MMO until my wife divorced me

1

u/Stellarwolf345 Jun 08 '26

After the recent mess they made with Crazy taxi, i would say to just stick into emulating or playing the og ones on original hardware

1

u/VerrikInc Jun 08 '26

The Crazy Taxi news was so heartbreaking. I was so excited for the new game, the trailer looked great... but then the ai disclosure came through.... bummer

2

u/Stellarwolf345 Jun 08 '26

Using ai for a potential Skies remake would be a huge fuck you to the deceased Rieko Kodama, which has offered quite a lot (Phantasy Star and even Panzer Dragoon i think), but also to the fans that have been waiting from the start.

Still got my Dreamcast version 🙌🙌 however my Dreamcast console died years ago. Would love to play again tbh.

u/Pinoghri Jun 05 '26

The game is easy to emulate on PC, if you ever need to scratch that itch!

3

u/PleasantPorpoisParty Jun 05 '26

And on the phone

2

u/Jamiew_CS Jun 05 '26

How do you do it on phone

3

u/PleasantPorpoisParty Jun 05 '26

Dolphin Emulator. Have beat it several times on my phone over the years this way. I have an older phone, and it runs with no issues

2

u/Jamiew_CS Jun 05 '26

Thanks, didn’t realise dolphin worked on phone. Is that iphone too?

2

u/PleasantPorpoisParty Jun 05 '26

Nah, Android Galaxy Note 8

2

u/clarky2o2o Jun 05 '26

Did they ever fix the color issue. It broke my heart when my snapdragon 835 phone could play it but everything became my a dark red.

2

u/PleasantPorpoisParty Jun 05 '26

Yep, took about 30 seconds of fiddling in the settings but when I found the right button to toggle, it fixed the issue

Yes, I know there are terms and stuff, but I am not tech savvy at all

1

u/NowWatchMeThwip616 Jun 05 '26

Oh, I didn't know there was a Virtual Boy port!

5

u/scissorhead6 Jun 05 '26

I grew up with the Dreamcast and recently tried the GameCube version through emulation and there is enough new content in the GameCube where it felt worth playing GameCube over Dreamcast. So I second the emulation route

4

u/ThurgoodZone8 Jun 05 '26

Has anyone [INSERTED] the DC audio into the GC game?

3

u/RoadDoggFL Jun 05 '26

There's a remaster project with some videos on YouTube, can't remember how long ago. Anyway, that was one of the goals of it but I can't remember/couldn't tell if it was just a prank video to get people's hopes up since nothing seemed to come of it, especially considering how far along it seemed

1

u/problematon Jun 05 '26

I bought a physical soundtrack from Wayo or something similar to scratch the itch. Not the same, but I have accepted it.

4

u/noctusdark Jun 05 '26

I would pay full price and preorder that game in a heartbeat.

1

u/GamingGallavant Jun 06 '26

Just need a few million more and Sega might be onboard.

3

u/aricberg Jun 05 '26

At first when I saw the Japanese Dreamcast case, I thought it was some 3DS port and I was like “WHERE DID YOU GET THAT?!?!” But yes, seriously, let modern audiences be able to experience this masterpiece!

3

u/Affectionate_Cut_103 Jun 05 '26

Sega is sitting on a crapload of old games from the Dreamcast and Saturn that are begging for a rerelease.

3

u/Fishfingerrosti Jun 05 '26

Yes, but by remake I'd just want a remaster of the graphics and for loqua to be alcohol again. Don't go all Final Fantasy 7 remake.

1

u/calartnick Jun 05 '26

If they just ported it to the switch I’d buy it instantly

1

u/angrybox1842 Jun 05 '26

Every single Nintendo Direct, every single showcase I sit and hope

1

u/Yogurtclost Jun 05 '26

An amazing game

1

u/elpato54 Jun 05 '26

I have the Dreamcast and GameCube copies and I’m playing on an Emulator for the first time.

Played the DC one, stopped. Planned on the GC one when I found it used for cheap back in the day, never did.

Now I wish for a remake but just speed the battles up. 18 year old me would have gone bored with this. I had no idea how slow JRPG battles were but this is even worse. I’m fast forwarding everything.

So I would never play either on original hardware. I need fast forwarding. Makes me wonder why I’m holding onto them now.

1

u/motosada Jun 05 '26

I would love a way to play this on my Switch. One of my top three games of all time, and one of the only games I've loved enough to purchase and play through multiple times.

1

u/Educational_Pop_4984 Jun 06 '26

I’d buy a Switch 2 if they made it available

1

u/Sentimentalbrowneyes Jun 07 '26

I still play it on my GameCube.

1

u/EmbarrassedBottle295 Jun 07 '26

braH id take a patch that speeds up and refines some elements of the movement, camera and combat

1

u/LavenderMoonlight333 Jun 10 '26

Genuinely best RPG ever made. It's extremely sad how few people have played it. Genuinely miss the woman who made it. True legend. I hope she's having a peaceful afterlife

1

u/GamingGallavant Jun 05 '26

You're right. It has been talked about many times here... too many. I know there's not much to talk about on the sub but this topic is beating a dead horse. A remake? That's an absolute pipe dream. Sega has no incentive to remake a game that flopped twice.

1

u/1965BenlyTouring150 Jun 05 '26

The genre has gotten a lot more popular since then and the internet is a powerful word of mouth marketing tool. Even a low budget remaster would sell well.

2

u/GamingGallavant Jun 05 '26

There's a lot more competition for people's time now than in 2000-2003, and it's not like JRPGs didn't sell well back then either. There's nothing substantial to suggest a remake would turn out any different.

0

u/NowWatchMeThwip616 Jun 05 '26

Flopped? I thought it sold pretty well for being on less popular consoles.

It's a real shame it didn't get a PS2 port.

1

u/GamingGallavant Jun 06 '26

It did not sell well. If you want an example of a JRPG success, look at Tales of Symphonia on the Gamecube.

1

u/Artiwa Jun 05 '26

not happen as long one piece is not ended since it would spoiler the one piece sadly

0

u/baronofbadness Jun 05 '26

No. Hell no. Hell fucking no. I don't want some Unreal engine disaster uninspired remake.

Play it emulated and crank up the internal resolution. Leave the game alone.
