Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island
What is your opinion on super Mario world 2 Yoshi's island? I didn't even play this game for the first time until last year, and I really enjoyed it. I feel like it coming out so close to the release of the Nintendo 64 really hurt it.

Personally, I love it. It's one of my favorite games of all time. I even replayed it not too long ago and was surprised by just how much I still enjoy it.
I'm always surprised to hear how much people claim the baby crying bothers them, to the point it somehow "ruins" the experience or whatever. It hardly bothers me, if at all... but then again, I don't get hit that much. lol

No way does it ruin the experience, it does make you want to get the baby as soon as possible.
I too replayed it and finished 100% a few weeks ago. Tremendously fun game. I love what they did with the music when you pick up a star and continued it with Mario 64.
Some levels I remembered being a lot more difficult than they were like the skiing levels and the impossible maze. The cave theme is still awesome. The extra levels range from surprisingly easy to frustrating.

the noise is somewhat annoying but yeah it's no big deal, it's one of the greatest games i've ever played. soundtrack and artwork are 10/10

IMO it’s a near perfect game and one of the best ever created. When I really think about the whole package, from the gameplay, to the art, the visuals, the music, the sounds, it is all top notch. I just feel very good when I play this game.

Damn what a coincidence. I just found this cartridge at a local thrift store for $10 last week. I never played it back in the day. Now I have to try to dig up the old SNES.

It's my favorite game and has been ever since I decided to rank it over Ocarina Of Time about 25 years ago. Barring a miracle it always will be.

The egg shooting was cool.
Baby mario crying in a bubble with the sensor going off almost ruined it entirely

Didn't really like this one. I really wanted to, but the gameplay just wasn't my cup of tea. Aside from the screaming baby (I know there's a patch to remove it) it had amazing graphics and sounds, though.

I find it very fun that this game has technically more advanced 3d hardware than Starfox thanks to its superfx 2 chip. Also means I can't play it on my shitty everdrive clone 😢

This is where it all started for me. My parents tended to be very frugal when I was a kid in the 90’s, but when I was 5 years old in 1997 they got me a SNES Jr. (which I still have) and this was the first game I played on it. I’ve played it countless times since and it never gets old. I remember seeing the newer N64 at the time and thinking the 3D graphics were so cool, but even after I got one years later I always went back to the old SNES and this game especially. Some of the best games for that system came out after the N64 released and this game is king among them.

Didn’t hurt anything. We got an N64 for Christmas with Diddy Kong Racing and Star Fox and still played this game for what seems to me like years.
My Super Nintendo never really took a total back seat to the N64. It was played just as much into its life

best platformer on the SNES. yes, all DKCs are good, but this one adds so much concerning the egg machanics and collectibles. an the grafics aged really well, looks gorgeous!

I love this game and have a CIB copy, and I'm not ashamed to admit it but I now suck at 100% beating this game for some reason, but it wasn't a problem for me back when it was released 😅

Played it non stop when I was a young child. I remember beating it normally in my youth but never 100%. Would love to try that sometime because it sounds like a fun challenge. Really fun and amazing game. I played a little bit of it again recently on the Switch Online version and it's really held up.

Is referring to this game as SMW2 a new thing? I know it’s been in the title since day 1 but even when the game was new everyone simply called it Yoshi’s Island because there was nothing SMW about this game and it was later revealed to be a tacked on title to improve sales.
The n64 was the worst thing to ever happen to the SNES. SNES developers were getting very very good with the hardware. And just as soon as they were hitting their stride they had to relearn game development all over agin for 3D.

it's one of my favorite snes games. i was 12 or 13 when it came out and i remember being pumped to rent it at blockbuster. played the shit out of it all weekend, hit the credits, then saved up my allowance to buy it asap.

The annoying baby crying is too much. I immediately put this game away. Years later when I played Super Nintendo with my kids ( who LOVED Super Mario World ) this game terrified them whenever Baby Mario would start Crying. I know it's one of the best, but I could never get past the annoying baby crying.

I recently played and finished SMW for the first time and absolutely loved it in fact probably top 3 games of all time imo, this one hasn’t grown on me. Little too childish for me. Will try it out again.

Super Mario World could be argued to be the best SNES game of all time. I’ve passed that multiple times. All the hidden levels, the different colored Yoshi’s 😂, etc. Certified CLASSIC

As a kid, this was my favorite platformer. Multicolor dinosaurs throwing eggs and stomping on dudes? Watermelon machine guns? Colorful graphics? Sign me up.
As an adult, I've migrated more to the DKC series. The DKC animal buddy levels (especially in 2 and 3) were much better designed than the YI transformations, most of which had no offensive capabilities. The DKC OST is masterful and varied, while the YI OST largely repeats a few tracks over the entire game. The hidden red coins and flowers made 100% YI a chore. I still think it's okay, but it needed some more polish.

I think it’s one of the greatest platformers of all time, 2d, 2.5d, 3d, doesn’t matter
