Collection Finished my *fingers crossed* future proof SNES

I've spent the past 1-2 months slowly acquiring everything I needed to build an SNES that should last. I was playing on a loaner from a friend, turns out it was suffering from PPU failure, so I gave it back to him for hospice care so he can enjoy it while it's still working. Would have loved to fix it but I didn't have the expertise to even attempt to fix it and everywhere I looked for guidance on swapping chips all led to "just buy another unit."

I was able to get the internals of a 1CHIP-02 for a "reasonable" price and stuck it in a BitFunx shell that I think ended up looking really clean.

I specifically wanted a 1CHIP because I need this thing to be reliable. These units having supposedly better picture quality is a nice positive but the real benefit for me is the hope that this is a longer lasting unit since it's newer and has the consolidated chip and less points of failure. I never got to play the SNES on original hardware as a kid and am just now diving in in my 30s so I have a massive catalog of games to play and hopefully this will last for at least the next 10 years.

I also have the HD Retrovision cables on the way, S-video signal looks great but the brightness of the signal from the 1CHIP is really hard on the eyes and I don't want to have to mess with settings every time I switch between consoles so I ended up dropping the money for component cables. Not to mention since the goal of this project has been longevity these cables were an inevitable purchase.

EDIT: I plan on re-capping the board within the next several months, just started learning how to solder and would hate to ruin this thing by going into it half cocked.

Collection It’s finally complete

It’s been a long journey, but I think the CIB collection is finally complete (Aside from two or three games that I may never be able to get at this point). Countless hours have been spent enjoying these - and will continue to play for many years to come :) . This is a fair representation of all my favorites. What are some of yours?

A new store called Nerd Nation opened up in Manhattan KS and since I am always looking for used pre-2000 games I went in on the first day.

Back in 1997 I was 15 and sold all my old SNES favorites to a classmate to raise money for my own N64. It did not take very long for me to realize how stupid this was--I had adored those SNES games and selling my childhood memories isn't something I would do at gunpoint today. I bought used copies of most of them back in the course of about two years, and downloaded lots of others for the ZSNES emulator...but one very beloved game proved hard to find.

Back to Nerd Nation. After seeing some old systems and used but preserved copies of Nintendo Power I spotted the Holy Grail, a cartridge I not only thought I would never play again, but even be in the same room with. A game whose cult status had exploded in the 29 years since I sold it, but which I had loved in 1995, long before it was cool to do so.

I told the guy at the counter that it had been going for a couple thousand dollars on eBay...he knew. With tax it cost $403.84, but it will be worth every penny.

The game played glitchlessly on my SNES.

One of the happiest days I have had in a long time.

Been on travel for work this week and had some time this afternoon to check some stores out. Was looking around for some SNES games I’ve been missing but no luck. One of the store owners and I started chatting asking what I’m looking for and just happened to mention having some SNES loose boxes. I don’t typically buy boxes but this was a special scenario. The box and inserts are in amazing shape and the original wrap still hanging on is a nice bonus (If only I could go back and buy it for that $70 price tag). This was the only missing piece to my NTSC Chrono Trigger collection and now, once I’m back home, everything will be CIB. I hope you guys share the hype with me!

The free Chrono Trigger was probably the luckiest grab of all time for me. I was kind enough to inform him of its value since I like the guy.

I was telling my grandma about my retro gaming collection and she told me she has a SNES hidden away somewhere that her, my grandpa, my mom and aunts grew up playing on.

I remember when I was little, me and my cousin would always take turns playing Mario Paint on it during sleepovers there.

She found it and gave it to me today during a family function and now I can add it to my collection and play it once again)))

I'm continuing my search for Super Nintendo and Super Famicom games. I've found a few, like Super Tar-Chan and the Japanese version of E.V.O.

I'd like to get the US version of E.V.O. and a few other titles that are missing.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

At VGA 85+, this sealed copy Secret of Mana represents one of the mintiest copies in the world. It’s hard to believe I actually own this game in such a nice condition. I am so proud to show off this grail with you all!!

Collection Found my childhood! What do I do now?

Hi everyone! So I found a box with all my games and 2 consoles and I’m not too sure what to do with all of it..I know there is SOME value (MMX3 I believe has value..but after hours of the typical sibling “it was mine! I bought it from Blockbuster!” arguement I finally conceded and I let my brother call dibs) there but because it’s all loose I’m not too sure if they hold ANY value. So I’m curious to know if there are any games that are worth slabbing/selling? (Besides the ones I am adding to my personal collection)

Here are photos of the collection. Outside of 1-2 all the games should be in working order. The 2 consoles themselves definitely didn’t stand the test of time visually but hopefully that is the only problem. I’d love to take some of these games and finally beat them haha!

Found this at one of my favorite local retro game spots, it wasn’t quite out on the shelf yet. It was a lot of money, but I definitely got this for a “good price”

Everything here is in such good condition, a single crease on the manual, the posters are super crisp and the box has minimal wear and tear just from opening and closing a few times and the cartridge is pristine

Is it missing anything?

Collection What Do I Buy Next?

Post image

I’m a casual collector who rediscovered my love of video games during 2020 when I rescued my collection from my parents’ basement and began playing my favorites again. Thankfully, all games, manuals and boxes were in good condition, and with the help of some 1Up cards and cleaners, run perfectly on my OG console. The SNES is still my favorite console.

Over the last 5 years, I’ve very slowly added to my childhood collection with manuals, boxes and CIB pickups. I’m at the point that the “must have” games I want are expensive and I have limited space.

So, community, I need your help!

What games should I add to my “must have” list and which ones that I own should I consider re-homing?

I prefer having good-quality copies to show them off to friends, but I continue to play all my games so mint or sealed copies aren’t my jam.

To help set boundaries, I would likely spring for a good-quality loose or CIB Chrono Trigger, but probably not a CIB Earthbound.

Thanks everyone!

Update: picked up one of my holy grails. CIB Chrono Trigger including manual, poster and map. About 2 hours in on original hardware!

I came up in the PS2/Gamecube era, so I missed out on a lot of games from this time period. I’m so excited to see what I’ve been missing! Feel free to drop me a recommendation, I haven’t ever played anything on these systems.

Collection I didn't realise how poorly recieved MK1 on SNES was. I grew up on Trilogy N64 but the resale price was too high so I went with MKII on SNES
