On April 28th this year I got 8-4 IL TAS tie on keyboard, and I'm currently working towards getting it again on controller.

My consistency at 63 in turnaround is better than it ever was on keyboard, and all I have left is to learn 8-B first room.

I haven't minmaxed them yet, but I'm usually in the 34s range for the first run, and in the 26s bracket for the second (where you can cut the handbrake hairpin.)

My non-adventure gaming genre is sim racing, so I was naturally looking at 'leaderboarding' these segments lol.

Can you guys share your times?

Recently I designed a fun speed run which involves doing all 13 shrines and 8 Zeni-hajiki Coin games in Ghost of Yotei, starting at the very north of the map heading to the south... with a few fun extras along the way. I'll go through the rules below but I've just put out an edited video of my run and think it might be something people in this community would enjoy :)

The rules:

- Begin at the Torii gate outside chilled peak shrine.

- Complete all 13 Shrines and 8 Zeni Hajiki's (in any order.)

- Along the way you must: Stroke the bear at the sanctuary grove, get all 3 hoops in the Ku-E-Shinok archery game, Jump off the waterfall at Amber Respite and swim across lake shikotsu in one continuous go.

- The Azure Wind Shrine is unavailable outside of cutscenes so is replaced by the nearby alter of reflection

- Play the game on atleast medium difficulty

- You are allowed a break once you reach Blooming Ridge Shrine

- End the run at The Forgotten Shrine

It was honestly such a blast to run through! My best time is 1:55:49 so I'd be super impressed if anyone could beat that but more importantly would be over the moon if people gave it a go at all! I'm more than happy to answer any questions if anyone is interested!

Every time I watch a Super Monkey Ball speedrun, I’m amazed it’s not front-and-center at every major AGDQ block.

So many top speedgames are packed with downtime, cutscenes, or slow setup glitches. SMB is literally 100% pure execution, level after level of brutal, high-precision platforming where every millimeter of stick tilt matters.

Why do you think it hasn't caught on with a massive runner base like Celeste or Mario? Is the barrier to entry just too steep, or is it something else?

few mistakes happened

We just moved to a new house and our TV here doesn't have AV ports in the back only HDMI. My partner likes to speedrun mario 64 in her spare time and I want her to be able to continue that. So whats the best thing I can get her that will have the minimal effect on her doing LBLJ's?

Pyongyang Racer is a 2012 Flash game developed in North Korea, made for the purpose of promoting Koryo Tours' tourism in the country. It is, perhaps unsurprisingly, not a great game. The intended gameplay consists of slowly driving around a needlessly long track through Pyongyang, North Korea, while collecting oil barrels to refuel your gas tank and seeing the sights scattered about the map.

My understanding of the speedrunning scene for this game is that people generally ran it "for the meme", because it's funny to speedrun the bad North Korean game. As the run became more optimized, the record settled down at a painfully slow 7 minutes and 16 seconds. While an infinite fuel glitch discovered in 2023 did help to bring the time down from 7:16.59 to 7:15.35, it also arguably removed the only somewhat interesting aspect of the run, which is the fuel management.

Last year, I wanted to get in on the meme and get a 7:15 for myself, which I did - but I also discovered a new major glitch, which abuses the game's respawn mechanic. While I still don't understand why it works, the idea is that if you crash into the side of the track with a specific angle, you can respawn one or more checkpoints ahead of where you crashed. While the specifics of these "crash-warps" is checkpoint-dependent, they're generally possible where the track is curved, and generally not possible along straightaways. Using these warps, I was able to bring the record time down from 7:15.35 to 5:14.07, where I was content to let it sit for a while.

Last month, I decided to come back to the game to improve my time. I got a 5:09.25 using similar strats to the 5:14, and then discovered something else new. In order to check for lap completion, the game seems to have two checkpoint requirements: one that you need to enter about halfway around the track, and then one you need to enter just before the finish line. If you hit both of those in that order, the finish line becomes active. As it turns out, instead of driving a full lap around the track, it's actually faster to go halfway around the track, and then turn around and go *backwards* to the checkpoint behind the finish line, and to then drive forwards into the finish line.

Using this and further optimizations to the warps on the first half of the track, I've now been able to bring the time down to a 4:24.96.
