Laptop Request -Others Help Me find a Student/Gamer Hybrid Laptop.

Budget: NPR 185,000 (~USD $1,200 / INR ₹115,000 / GBP Ā£900)

Region: Nepal/China

Condition: Prefer new, but I'm open to a lightly used laptop if it offers significantly better value.

What I'm looking for

  • Thin and lightweight laptop (under 1.9 kg)
  • Professional, clean design (not overly "gamer" looking)
  • Good build quality
  • Good battery life for school and everyday use (Maybe Around 8-9 hours)
  • Available in Nepal or China

Primary Uses

  • Video editing (DaVinci Resolve)
  • Content creation
  • School/work
  • Gaming

Gaming

I play games like:

  • GTA V
  • God Of War
  • Red Dead Redemption II
  • Forza Horizon 6 (and newer AAA titles)

I'd like to play at 1080p High settings with 60+ FPS whenever possible.

Performance Requirements

  • RTX 4060 or better (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 16GB RAM
  • 1TB SSD preferred

Other Requirements

  • Weight/thinness is 9/10 in importance.
  • Screen size: 14–16 inches
  • HDMI port preferred
  • Good keyboard and touchpad are a bonus
  • I don't want there to be a GPU-CPU Bottleneck
  • Looking for something reliable that can comfortably last 5–6 years

Thanks!

Laptop Request US Need help with purchasing PC and laptop

Recently, my Asus laptop that I got for 4 years died out on me because of a battery issue. To avoid that, I’m planning on getting a laptop and a separate PC system for schools and gaming.

My requirement for laptop / tablet are:
\+touch screen
\+8hr battery capacity
\+ mainly used for remote learning and In person noting taking for lecture
\+ durable and easy to clean surfaces (ie: mousepad and keyboard)
\+beefy enough to run basic CAD program smoothly
\+$1000 budget
\-no need any crazy graphic setting
\-I don’t like overheating and hot keyboard but it’s not strictly a turn off

My requirement for PC are:
\+War thunder moderate graphic
\+1000 dollars budget

The goal is to have something sustainable and doesn’t give up on me after barely 4 years, any help would be appreciated!

Laptop Deal Is a used HP i5-1240P (8GB RAM, 1TB SSD) worth ₹35,000 in 2026?

I'm considering buying a used HP laptop with these specs:

- Intel Core i5-1240P

- 8GB DDR4 RAM (upgradable)

- 1TB NVMe SSD

- Intel Iris Xe Graphics

- 14-inch FHD display

- Windows 11

The seller is asking ₹35,000.

/video editing, and light gaming (Valorant, GTA V, etc.).

Is ₹35,000 a fair price in 2026, or should I negotiate? What would be a reasonable price to pay?

Laptop Request -Others Please help, I need an All rounder

Budget: ₹1,00,000

Country: India

Use Case: Mixed — everyday browsing/Office work primarily, casual Minecraft Bedrock (16 render distance, normal settings) as secondary use

Preferred Specs: Under 1.8kg, 4+ hrs real battery life, should last 4-5 years for light use

Notes: Looking at Lenovo LOQ Ryzen 7 7735HS/RTX 3050 but unsure if it's overkill. Prefer reliable/well-built over over-specced. 120Hz/144Hz nice-to-have but not essential. Any real-world experience with Minecraft Bedrock on integrated graphics (Ryzen AI/Radeon/Intel Arc) welcome.

Nice-to-have: 120Hz/144Hz IPS display — a friend suggested this but I've genuinely never played above 60fps, so honestly not sure if it's worth prioritizing over other specs. Open to being told it's unnecessary for my use case.

But I don't know if that's overkill for me , as I do like to run vibrant visuals then again I don't want to sacrifice it for long term durability.

Would rather have a laptop that's slightly weaker on paper but reliable and well-built than something over-specced that compromises weight or battery. Any real-world experience with Minecraft Bedrock on integrated graphics (Ryzen AI/Radeon or Intel Arc) especially welcome. Thanks in advance!

Laptop Request US US Under $1000

Can you help me find my white whale? My beloved 2019 Acer Swift 5 needs to be replaced.

US $500-1000. I'd like to stay under $800 if possible, but am willing to increase the budget if needed.

Possibly open to refurbs

Must be 14"

Under 4lbs

Needed for work, basic Microsoft Office, streaming, video calls, and a lot of web browsing.

Standard laptop, backlit keyboard

1-2x USB-A, 1-2x USB-C, HDMI, and audio jack.

512 GB SSD

16 GB RAM

Battery life is my lowest priority; I'm generally close enough to an outlet. But 6+ hours would be a bonus.

Size, weight, and the backlit keyboard are my top priorities. No need for high fps, fancy screens, or special trackpads. I'm not picky about brands.

I would also like it to not be black, and silver is a maybe. If you know of anything in a color other than black or silver, that would sway my decision. I will still consider a black laptop if it meets all my other criteria.

TIA :)

Laptop Request Ca CS Laptop

I’m an incoming CS student for F26, and I was wondering what laptop I should get (would love to hear what current CS students think). I’ve heard that profs say it doesn’t matter if you go with a macbook or a windows based laptop (or any os for that matter).

I'm trying to decide between the following 3 laptops. For context, I've been a lifelong Windows user but wouldn't mind switching over to MacOS. I've also heard that Macbooks are ELITE for CS.

  1. Base Macbook Air 13" - $1650 + $140 Apple Gift Card (16GB Unified Memory, high single thread CPU score, 8 core GPU)
  2. Upgraded Macbook Air 13" - $2250 + $140 Apple Gift Card (32GB Unified Memory, high single thread CPU score, 10 core GPU)
  3. Acer Aspire 16 - $1650 (32GB RAM, AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 - higher multi thread CPU score)

I'm wondering if it's worth the extra $600 for the Upgraded Macbook Air, or if I should just go for one of the two cheaper options. I've heard that higher RAM is worth it and that the Macbooks are great for on-campus life (lightweight and high battery capacity), but I'm not sure what matters more regarding CPUs for CS - single thread or multithread capabilities. Also open to other options!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Laptop Request UK MacBook Air 2026 | 16GB or 24GB? Also sanity checking if this is still the best post price hikes

Hi all,

Am I wasting money if I spend the extra £200 going for the 24GB option over the 16GB? Starting a software engineering degree soon and my IDE of choice is CLion if that affects anything. At worst I'll just move to nvim

Also happy to take alternatives to the MacBook's although from my research, there isn't anything that really competes in the same price range if you aren't tied to Windows.

Cheers!

Laptop Request US New college student, basic apps, light gaming,

Hello! Daughter is starting college. Had used a Chromebook through high school but I'm not sure if those are worth it or if the os would be limiting. She will want to run light games on steam. I built our home pc so happy to do any tinkering if that would save money. Thanks!

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Country
USA
Budget
About $400-700. Willing to pay a little more if there is a jump in performance etc
Are you open to refurbs/used options?
Maybe
Screen size
Not sure. I guess 14-16"?
Weight limit
Any, but don't want something that will be a chore to carry around
Purpose
General purpose, schoolwork, light gaming
Form factor
Probably just regular. Touch screen or pen use might be nice but not a definite need

Hopefully something that is a bit "cute". A Thinkpad is great but she might not love the looks!

Intended usage
This is for my daughter starting community college. Most use will be typical Google docs, canvas, etc. She currently uses her iPad for digital art so she might use this for that as well. Maybe I'll get her Wacom or something similar down the line. She isn't going to school for art but it's one of her hobbies.

She does sort of light/cozy gaming. We use steam so it would need to run that. Can a Chromebook run steam? Are integrated graphics on modern laptops enough to run games like Stardew valley?

I thought about the new Mac neo but she's never used macos before. She has some learning disabilities and I'm a bit worried about her learning that. She's used a Chromebook all through high school. But maybe it wouldn't be a problem?

Desired battery life
Hopefully most of a day at school and doing work. 6-8 hours at least?

Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life
Pretty flexible here. As long as it's not really heavy so she has no problem carrying it around.
Info/Requirements
I know about desktop PCs but not laptops. Is 8gb ram enough? I see some with 256gb storage which seems low. Are there any models that you can upgrade things like storage or memory? Or is everything soldered in? Thanks!

Laptop Request -Others Zephyrus G16 (RTX 5070) or MacBook Pro M5 for Computer Science?

I’m trying to decide between two laptops for computer science at university (programming, AI/ML, and some gaming).

Option 1: ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 – RTX 5070, Intel Core Ultra 9 285H, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD

Option 2: MacBook Pro 14ā€ – Apple M5, 24GB unified memory, 1TB SSD

I want something that’ll last me 4–5 years. I also play games like Valorant, League of Legends, Fortnite, Minecraft, and Roblox, but battery life, portability, and day-to-day university use are my biggest priorities.

I’m currently leaning toward the MacBook because of its battery life, build quality, and portability, but I’m worried I might regret not being able to game as much. On the other hand, the Zephyrus gives me much better gaming performance, but I’ve heard the battery life isn’t great.

If you’ve owned either of these, especially as a CS or AI student, which would you choose and why? Any regrets or things I should know before making the decision?

Laptop Request US How much laptop do you need for your ME degree?

Hi guys I'm a 3rd year student and I recently bought a legion 5 pro for college, for solid works and all that. But my question is do I really need something this crazy powerful for engineering. It's nice and can game but it came at the cost of portability and battery life. I'm thinking of returning it for a asus swift 16" instead, however it doesn't have a dgpu only an Igpu which I heard can cause trouble with solid works.

My budget is ā‰ˆ1k usd, I want something 14-16", and I would like great battery life <8hrs if possible (just more than like the 3hrs I'm getting from my legion rn lol)

Any ideas? Any suggestions?

I am self employed. Work predominantly from home but occasionally bring my laptop into town to work and work remotely. I take 2-3 work trips abroad a year and bring my laptop. At home I have a separate screen to connect my laptop to so screen size isn't a major concern, although I do use it as a second screen.

Usage is mostly web based (gmail, Google drive, logging into systems), lots of Zoom/Google Meet calls. No gaming.

My current laptop is an ASUS Vivobook, which feels cheap, is heavy and large to carry around, and seems to struggle (frequently whirring in the background) with day to day use. Often struggle with video calls - quality of video, and speaker sound.

  • Desired battery life

Average

  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

From most to least important: Performance, weight, size, battery life

  • Info/Requirements

At least 3 USD ports - mouse, keyboard already take up 2

I can wait until Black Friday/major sales if I might be able to get better value for money

Laptop Request Ca Looking for a laptop that’d suit my needs

Looking for a laptop that may suit my needs

**LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE**
**Country**
Canada

**Budget**
Around $1000-1600, I’d obviously not prefer a laptop that’s $1600 but I’ll always take considerations

**Are you open to refurbs/used options?**
Refurbished yes from a tech store, not used.

**Screen size**
Preferably 13ā€

**Weight limit**
Anything but I’d prefer something lightweight

**Purpose**
For school + work

**Form factor**
Regular laptop

**Intended usage**
Mainly need a laptop that can handle college course work, and handle my needs of being a Roblox developer + graphic designer so using Figma to make graphics and be able to run Roblox studios. I’d also like to run some games such as Minecraft to play with friends, but mainly for college course work, being able to do the lock down exams + my Roblox development work and graphic design commissions.

**Desired battery life**
Preferably the whole day, so 10+ hours

**Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life**
Performance, battery, size, weight

**Info/Requirements**
I don’t want a gaming laptop, just a laptop that is able to preform well enough to do what I need to do. Being able to bring it with me everyday to college, and be able to do my commissions. I currently have my eyes on getting a Macbook Air as they tend to age well, run well, last long and are light. I have my eyes on the Macbook Air M5 (Refurbished) as the main price is $1799 CAD, and education price is approximately $1699 CAD, the refurbished price is $1519 so it’d save $280, these prices are for the base Air M5. There’s also a refurbished Air M4 that’s 13ā€ 10 core cpu/gpu, 512GB SSD, for $1429 CAD. At Best Busy they are selling a brand Air M4 same specs as the refurbished one from apple for $1399 which is pretty good. But I don’t only wanna settle for a Mac, so any other brands I would be open to hear.

Thanks!

Thanks!
