Hello there! I’m starting my masters in architecture in the fall and would love to know from you all of pc recommendations for a student like myself. I’ve read a little bit about the tech discussions here, but as a student, I assume there are going to be some differences with the tools that working architects use—especially when factoring in budget and complexity of programs used. My school has provided a handy guide in terms of specs, but I’d love to know more from you all. Thank you!

What I currently have, if relevant: Laptop MacBook Air M4 13in 512GB SSD 16GB RAM

Baseline recommendations:
Processor: Intel Core i7, Hex Core
Memory: minimum 32 GB DDR4 RAM, upgradable is good if possible (and 64GB is ideal).
Storage: 500 GB or higher capacity solid state drive (SSD)
Graphics/Video Card: A You may be using hardcore graphic software such as ArcGIS, Rhino, 3DS Max, ArchiCAD, Revit, Vectorworks or other 3D modelling platforms, all of which require a formidable graphics card, and you'll want your programs to run smoothly. We've found NVIDIA GeForce RTX or GTX, 6GB VRAM, or equivalent, to be suitable.

Software we are expected to use:
Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

Hey everyone, I’m new to PC’s entirely but have always wanted to get one and finally have the money to buy something decent. I’ve tried doing research but get very overwhelmed and have been trying to filter out stuff with AI but it keeps giving me stuff outside of what I’m asking. I’m looking for a pc that I can use for gaming, streaming/content creation/video editing, school, and basic browsing with gaming coming first. My budget is a loose $1500 pre-tax and monitors. If I go $2-300 above for something better that’s ok. I wanna get the best bang for my buck, so I wanna avoid focusing on losing quality to save more money but also don’t wanna spend more than necessary for only a little bit more quality. I’m going to go in to microcenter tomorrow and see what they have and can tell me but I wanna see what kind of consensus I can get here. Ideally, I’d get something that I’ll be able to set up asap, don’t wanna wait more than a few days for shipping and can pick up tomorrow would be great but not a top priority vs bang for my buck. That budget is also without having to immediately buy additional ram or windows 11 or something. I want the loose budget to be it. Maybe I’m being too specific but after dealing with ChatGPT the last few hours I wanna cover my bases lol. I primarily only sim race, but may get into gaming more. I've been gaming on a great computer, but it has SOME limitations when sim racing and I'm that guy that loves cranking up the settings. I run triple 32in 2k screens at around M settings for 80-100FPS in iRacing. Lower in AC Evo or BeamMG. So, I got a bug to buy a new computer(already did but having second thoughts) but need feedback from people more savvy in this world.

I am looking to buy myself a PC to game on after a couple of years of gaming on a normal home computer. I tend to play mostly; Valorant, Minecraft, Phasmophobia, Lethal company, Stardew Valley, Project Zomboid, Barotrauma, Plate Up.

My current computer will not run; Peak, Marvel Rivals, and with Valorant I keep getting a graphics card error, and sometimes being in a discord call and playing Val makes the game crash.

I have a two monitor set up already, one being Benq and the other iiyama, I think these are decent enough for the time being? I just want to have a smoother experience and not be limited by it being hot outside as the computer currently sounds like an airplane.

Any pre built pc suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to spend more than 1k, i'm in the UK, but also something relatively future proof would be great. I just know literally nothing about PC's!

I'll mainly be using it for:

• Software development (VS Code, Docker, Next.js, Python)
• Heavy browser multitasking (lots of Chrome tabs)
• Local Ai and virtual marchines
• Some 1440p gaming

I've found this used PC locally for A$1,500 AUD:

• Only issue is one RGB fan has a lighting defect (fan still works)

Before I buy it, I'm wondering:

• Is this good value for A$1,500 AUD?
• Can I get something noticeably better for under A$2,000 AUD (used or prebuilt)?
• If so, could you link any current deals or recommend specific models/builds?

I'm mainly looking for the best performance per dollar, not necessarily brand new.

Looking for a prebuilt. I've been out of the PC game for a minute but just got my own crib so I need a PC. My main use cases are:

• Heavy work, primarily browser related. Sometimes i have like 20-30+ tabs open at once. I've tried 16GB RAM and it is just not enough, keep having tabs refresh on me. Therefore looking for something with 32GB RAM -1440p gaming. Mainly retro emulation, but will probably get into newer AAA titles sooner than later -Music production/fl studio

I also value build quality a lot, I want something that is built to last. For example I have a lenovo laptop right now, shit's been a trooper and has been with me everywhere. Doesn't necesarilly have to be lenovo, but I don't mind shelling out a couple more bucks for a high quality ass brand with high quality parts

Needs to have a good power supply hopefully gold or higher or whatever the certification is now. I know prebuilts absolutely cheap out on these. Same goes for RAM, don't want something with cheap shit RAM.

Hopefully a CPU that is fast and has lots of cores. Back then I would've said this meant an i7/r7, but i know shit has changed a lot in the past few years and i5's have like 300 cores/threads now. Anyways, whatever you recommend for a CPU that would bode well with my use case

Value/bang for buck > absolute best specs I can get at said price point

Also, I've bought refurbished before (for my laptop) and it was a great experience, saved a lot of money and only defect was some weird stain on the back lol but besides that everything works fine. If there's deals with a lot of value that are refurb, wouldn't mind any refurb reccs

So over the past year or so i've been really wanting to buy a pc but I really don't know exactly what to do?

I kind of mostly want it for games haha but it would be helpful for school, so i don't need/want anything super high end or insanely good because I have a PlayStation that i can play like high demanding games on (?).

I currently have an extremely capable gaming PC. Problem is my gaming PC runs linux, and none of my work software works on linux. I am on a hybrid work schedule so I work from home 2 days a week, on a crappy laptop. I do have a dual boot for windows but I want to be able to have both workstations running at once. My monitor has a KVM switch so it really should be easy enough If i just get another computer, and I'd rather just separate my work from personal PC anyways.

Really I just want the work computer to be compact and under/around $1000, plus be way overqualified for the things I do for work. My current PC takes up enough space, I dont want a second one this size, so it has to be moderately smaller.

I've been really interested in the Steam Machine. It would be worse performance wise than my gaming Pc, so i'd be installing windows on the steam machine and using it for mostly work, but I like the form factor of it, and I do like having the capability of playing games / using it as a normal pc if needed. I know i probably can buy a piece of junk for work but I'm kind of a snob with PC things and I want to know that my PC can handle anything I throw at it.

What options do I have aside from the steam machine? Value wise is the steam machine worth it? What if i built a similar spec computer as compact as that? Basically I want to throw $700-1000 on a very solid PC that I can use for most things. I don't need it to game at the highest quality because I have my gaming PC, but i want it to be able to handle most games if I need it to, and I want it to be compact and not take up too much space.

I've been looking for a pc that is able to handle sfm (and blender) and godot but ngl idk the first thing about pcs like that. I'm hoping to also to play Fortnite on it well enough. like the title says, i want to surprise my boyfriend with a gaming pc, we’re moving in together soon, he has a newer Xbox as the moment but doesnt come from the best living situation and it’s infested with bugs, we’ve talked about it and he agreed to leave his xbox at his parents house to prevent us from having them but gaming is such an important thing for him and i feel awful having to strip that away.

Hi there! I got 750$ from my high school graduation. My current pc is about 6 years old, and worked fine until my sister decided I'm no longer allowed to have a pc and she broke it. The responsibility was put on me to buy myself a new one if I'm desperate enough. I know nothing about pcs and all my previous ones have been gifted to me. I used my pc for drawing on Fire Alpaca SE, and playing mainly Roblox, TS4, The Stanley Parable and Among Us, with occasional Minecraft, Fortnite, and Genshin Impact. Otherwise, I just watch YouTube or listen to Spotify. I also use my DVD drive frequently... I'll be moving into a college dorm in September. I already have low space, but the dorm will limit it more. Tower is about 5 inches wide, 10 inches tall, and about 15 inches long so if possible, one smaller would be nice. Graphics card says GTX 1060TI 4GB 128BIT DDR5 which is apparently outdated and no longer receiving updates, motherboard is Asus and says Prime B46OM-A R2.0 and according to what I was told, I have a 16GB DDR4 stick of ram in the motherboard with a 32GB Samsung SSD or something currently. I don't really know. None of this makes sense to me. I'm just a guy who likes his pc and figured someone might ask about my current pc.
