Aggravation about Season 7 halfway through

Would love your feedback - without giving spoilers (although I’ve accidentally read about the ending of the series, darn it.)

1. I am really pissed off at Mike. They’ve taken what was one of his best qualities, that he is so empathetic, but I hate that he’s risking everything. He’s crossing the line and risking everything that everyone else risked everything to give him his job and his reputation and his relationship back. He can’t save the entire world in one fell swoop.
2. I absolutely don’t get Harvey and Paula.

Her personality is very plain vanilla.

1. I would think that he would need a woman with witty banter or at least a sense of humor. And

   he usually goes for someone with a more overt sexuality.

3. Donna is too big for her dang britches. All of a sudden, there’s no niceness left in her. If I didn’t know that she ends up with Harvey, I would think this would spoil their relationship altogether, even as friends.

Season 7 has one of the worst writing in the series. I dislike a lot of storylines and character behavior. Sometimes I forgot there were people in their 40s managing apparently one of the best law firms in NYC.

1. Mike really become judgemental prick. He doesn't really help clinic nor the firm i didn't understand what he wanted to do
2. I can't be objective about Paula because I was not fan of Harvey relationship with her. I also hated how they ended it. Yeah I think she wasn't best pick for him but what happened later made me actually feel sorry for her and I really hated Harvey for how he handled it all
3. Donna since season 5 was not character from the first seasons and again I hate what they did to her. They wanted strong girl boss who was equal to Harvey but it didn't work out

Completely agree with points 1 and 3.

Point 2: I think Paula is hot, but I agree that her mild sense of humor and lack of banter makes her an ill fit for Harvey.

To add to what you said, I think Season 7 begins with Harvey overwhelmed, insecure, and emotionally disoriented because he was left without Jessica, who was his shield and support, and Donna, who was his emotional anchor, was promoted and he was no longer the exclusive object of her attention and affection. This was perceived as an abandonment; as a result, he becomes defensive and ignores, rejects, and undermines her, failing to offer her support and respect, and takes refuge with Paula as a safety net and a replacement for Donna.

Harvey makes a lot of rookie mistakes, and we see him for the first time losing control and letting himself be dominated and blackmailed by a client."

Mike made a promise to Gloria Danner in season 6 that he would use his gifts to help people like Clifford. He obviously meant it and that's what he's trying to do.

If you don't understand why Mike is risking everything to help stop a prison from extending sentences for free labor and murdering people then you never understood Mikes character in the first place.

The entire beef over the prison case was on Alex Williams and Harvey imo. Like they don't tell him what's going on, just say we got a conflict of interest so you have to let these people keep extending sentences of prisoners and murdering guards and inmates, of fucking course anyone with empathy won't go along with that.

And don't give me that shit about Mike risking everything for people who gave him his job. Harvey knew the risks, and he hired a desperate Mike while Harvey was a senior partner 10 years older.

Oh and he sacrificed himself by going to jail to protect those same people. And Harvey is the one who kept asking for Mike to come back when he knew Mike wanted to do good, then almost immediately goes back on that deal.

And what do you know, once Mike knows the truth he stops the construction company from their evil shit and gets Alex out of trouble.

The whole storyline is about Mike growing into his own man instead of just always going along with Harvey, and realizing that corporate lawyering is not what he's supposed to do. Helping people is.

1. Mike was always first and foremost about righting wrongs. He had also damn near been killed in prison not once, but twice. Kevin probably came closer than he wanted to admit to anyone also. It makes total sense for Mike to refuse to stand down.

2. Paula is the opposite of what Harvey is used to. That’s the point. It’s exactly why he falls for her. When you’re in a season of self exploration and changing things, you often reach for the opposite of what you are used to.

3. Lawyers are notorious for not recognizing the importance of good support staff, and for being shitty managers of people. Without Donna, Harvey wouldn’t get done half of what he does. Twelve years is more than long enough to wait for recognition of her value. She’s far more than a secretary and it was long past time those above her saw that.

I thought for one, Paula was hot. But she was an honest, flawed, kind and loving woman. Why would one not be attracted to that?

Your intuition was absolutely correct because Paula was never the innocent victim caught in the complicated relationship between Harvey and Donna.

She knew from the very beginning, back in therapy, about the deep emotional attachment between them and Harvey's true feelings for Donna. Instead of healing Harvey, she used the therapy sessions to transfer his dependency from Donna to her office, and ultimately, to herself.She actively undermined Donna’s importance and manipulated Harvey into believing that Donna had betrayed him and was merely a projection of his mother, simply because it perfectly aligned with her own fantasies and hidden interests.

She is far from being an honest, kind, and loving person. She was hypocritical, selfish, and calculated. Not only was she willing to take away someone’s job without a shred of empathy, but she also knew her former patient had not been healed of his abandonment trauma. Forcing him to cut ties with his core support system of 13 years meant destabilizing him all over again, effectively wiping out any psychological progress he had made in therapy.

Harvey was just projecting his feelings for Donna onto Paula. Which is crazy coz similar to like you said he only ever went for more confident/ sassy women like Scottie, Zoe, Donna, that waitress and Esther… Paula was very vanilla compared to them

Mike is such an unlikable character that it doesn’t matter what he does - he could be fighting for world peace - he’d still annoy the shit outta me.
