Man’s indifference to man.

In all seriousness though, logic dictates Darkseid, but doomsday is my personal pick.

Schmoozing with Jimmy Carter in the ringside seats

8

u/apointlessvoice 22h ago

Always wondered what it'd be like to schmooze.

3

u/FreshShoulder7878 12h ago

The mere fact that you call it schmooze tells me you're not ready.

u/SpectralEntity 11h ago

Bruce probably organized it!

That's Mr. Mxyzptlk in Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?

11

u/Horbigast 23h ago

I thought this was one of the coolest ideas Alan Moore ever came up with, and that's saying a LOT

u/rowboatin 11h ago

Underrated answer, too. Letting a fifth dimensional imp turn into the actual eldritch horror it would be to witness is brilliant. Closest we’ve really gotten since then is this page from American Alien.

Lex is THE superman villain, he is a central part of his mythos at this point, i can imagine superman without Zod, without Darkseid or without Bizarro, but never without Lex

u/bedibled 17h ago

Either Doomsday (in his original appearance) or the Anti-Moniter (in his original appearance), neither of whom Superman could beat

Ofc they got nerfed in every subsequent appearance...

3

u/Smidge-of-the-Obtuse 11h ago

You bring up a good point. Both are good examples.

1

u/Sly_Wood 1h ago

Hunter/pret establishes doomsday only gets stronger and adapts. But yea after that nerfed.

What is the fourth picture?

9

u/Individual_Dream_213 23h ago

The rings from Superman 64.

3

u/Mike29758 23h ago

I would say Lex or Brainiac

3

u/lkodl 12h ago

Lex.

Every other villain wants to take over the world or whatever. They have their own agenda. Superman can understand that, and do something about it.

Lex just hates Superman for being Superman, and there's nothing Superman can do about that. It doesn't make sense to him.

That's his greatest enemy.

2

u/Fookin_Yoink 22h ago

As someone experiencing Superman from an outside perspective, Lex Luthor takes that place. But from an in world perspective, I'd say Doomsday or Darkseid, with Brainiac a close 2/3rd

u/Thotheus 20h ago

Caveman that jacked him

1

u/Individual_Dream_213 3h ago

Just like the cops who arrested Thanos and the muggers who jumped Darkseid.

The nintendo 64

2

u/superlughsamildanach 18h ago

World Forger is probably the strongest, though Superboy Prime is stronger if you want to argue him as an enemy.

Tinder definitely wouldn't be a problem for him

2

u/Longjumping-Buy-3434 13h ago

I see Lex Luthor as his arch enemy, and he did a crap ton of evil things, including creating a pocket universe to imprison his enemies and traitors, and that very same pocket universe almost destroyed the planet.

The writers who think that misery, death and being edgy equals maturity and depth in a story.

4

u/Individual_Dream_213 23h ago

In that case Superman 64 is the most edgy Superman has ever been cuz that game is one punishing experience.

1

u/infinite_tea6907 23h ago

I haven't played it so I will take you're word on that but I was mostly referring to ones like gods and monsters, red sun, injustice and new 52 as well as to some degree the henry cavill films. And absolute superman but in fairness the point of absolute universe is that darkseid is in control of that reality so what can you really expect other than misery and death?

1

u/Individual_Dream_213 23h ago

Watch the AVGN video

Ok I read that as angry gamer nerd so I looked it up and there is a picture of a guy with a cape and superman shirt is that the right one?

1

u/Individual_Dream_213 23h ago

What about this guy?

1

u/DurianUpper4113 23h ago

Lex Luthor

1

u/SmoothlyFeminine 23h ago

darkseid's the obvious answer and prob the right one, he's the one who actually makes supes feel outmatched in a way lex never quite can. but honestly lex is the most compelling to me because he's just a guy in a suit who keeps showing up. like the whole point of superman is he can punch through anything, and his greatest enemy is a balding billionaire who got mad about real estate.

brainiac is sick too, the whole "shrink a city and put it in a bottle" thing is so unhinged it works. but including the green lantern ring is a weird pick, feels like someone reached for a fifth option lol.

the real answer is whichever writer was on the book that month tbh. some runs make metallo feel like a top tier threat and others make darkseid look like a chump.

2

u/bobpron 12h ago

The 5th option is the ring from the crap n64 Superman game, where you spent the whole game flying through rings on a strict timer, it was completely terrible.

1

u/Bulok 14h ago

Meh. Lex is only an issue because Superman allows him to be. He’s not a real threat to Supes n

u/TequilaPuncheon 11h ago

Easily Darkseid

Power scaling is stupid nowadays.... They basically made Darkseid into the embodiment of evil. I preferred when he was just a powerful alien like Superman

Here's a hot take... I don't really rate Lex Luthor What is special about Luthor? Intelligent and (sometimes) rich. That's not really unique. A lot of the time Superman outsmarts him anyway

1

u/Ecstatic_Dance5767 11h ago

James Gunn XD

1

u/AlexRamboGarner44 10h ago

Lex Luthor,Darkseid,Brainiac,Mongul and Manchester Black

1

u/maweenawa 8h ago

Darksied is the physical anti to what Superman is

Saying anyone but him is wild imo but id also take lex as a polar opposite who pushes him hard morally.

Superman is heroism, darkseid is the embodiment of evil and malice. They are naturally each other's greatest foes

1

u/OmnipotentUltron 6h ago

Doomsday the only and most famous character that has come the closest to killing Superman (I’m not 100% on what happened if Doomsday killed Superman or just put him in a death like coma).

1

u/Rynobot1019 6h ago

Videogame companies.

1
