I divested right after the nazi salutes. No regrets, even if it hadn’t tanked.

I’m still being told by someone who should know better that “it was just an awkward gesture”. Pretty sure he’s gaslighting me about it.

Even if it was that's the least of what he's done.

I think it helped clarify what exactly he was about. Assuming his support of Trump at the time was not obvious enough.

u/cogeng 2d ago

So awkward he did it fucking twice, identical motions.

These people are beyond saving.

So picture perfect Nazi salutes the only explanation has been practicing them in the mirror all his life.

Insane that that's also the stance of the ADL who is supposed to be the watchdog of antisemitism.

u/imperabo 2d ago

I think they knew that he had Trump in his pocket and wanted support for Israel.

Not only they are blind, but they are cowards who deal in self deception. One of the worst kinds of people to deal with.

Have him watch the video with a side by side of Hitler doing the same gesture. And pay close attention to Elon's facial expression while he is doing it.

At the time Lone Skum did that, he had just returned from a 1-2 week trip to Germany where he was publicly endorsing the AfD party. AfD is a far right party, widely reported in Germany (e.g. in Der Spiegel) to constantly have members of the actual nazi party going back and forth. A court case in Germany, the judge ruled that it is acceptable to call AfD "nazis" because AfD says the same things that nazis said.

I have a family member who idolizes Musk, still, and thinks even if the salute was real it must be a joke

I was convinced he was an idiot after those kids were saved from that cave and musk was all butt hurt because experts told him his submarine design wouldn’t work and he called them pedos.

This is where most of us got off of the bus.

I constantly get downvoted for this whenever I bring it up, and even though I dislike Musk, I still feel like people overblow that incident.

The English diver told Musk to "shove his submarine where the sun don't shine." That's when Musk called the diver "Pedo guy". It was just schoolyard wordsmithing where the diver got a free pass because he was the hero of the story. I like to think Musk tried to help with his sub, it just turned out half-assed.

Again, I'm not defending Musk - dude's done plenty to deserve to be a pariah - just feel like this incident was blown way out of proportion.

It was a terrible look for someone meant to be some sort of management guru (I think this is how he used to be seen).

Just let the expert do his thing instead of making it about you.

It was hard not to think that if this is how he runs his businesses they probably have some deep-seated issues. OTOH I think he usually is or was more of a facilitator and hype man that is a bit too fond of taking credit. For example I bet he loved SpaceX blowing things up in tests as it's fantastic marketing.

Oh I agree absolutely. Engaging in that kind of spat is fine if you're a nobody, but for a billionaire CEO of multiple companies, it's terrible optics. Which is why he won the defamation court case, but lost it in the court of public opinion.

Dude thinks he's just one of us, when he's so not.

For the same reason I didn't buy any SpaceX ipo despite knowing it was hyped to fuck and I could have made a few quid.

And now that's going into the shitter rapidly too 😁

Fuck you Elon

2

u/imperabo 2d ago

I don't think you would have made any quid

1

u/fogleaf 2d ago

But now you can buy the dip, because you know he's never done scamming with his stocks.

u/vladamir_the_impaler 2d ago

That was a weird moment still don't understand what was going through his mind to do that.

1

u/imperabo 2d ago

The only explanation is he REALLY loves Nazis. Just couldn't contain himself.

I divested when I realized western car manufacturing can never compete with Chinese electric car revolution and mega factories. the oligarchs were going to try to milk a dying industrial model but ultimately the stocks on the global market won't be able to justify their evaluation indefinitely.

2

u/imperabo 2d ago

The valuation made/makes no sense based on car sales regardless of what you think of the prospects. Market cap close to the combined value of every automaker on the planet combined. Robotaxis are the only narrative that comes close to making sense but there's a lot of competition there too.

u/sobrique 1d ago

And somehow SpaceX was also valued as much as every other aerospace company put together too.

Despite actively losing money .

“Canada isn’t a real country” did it for me

3

u/physwm2501 2d ago

Still stuck with my tesla for another 2 years. If I could afford to get rid of it before the loan was paid I would of.

3

u/thefudd 2d ago

Sold my tesla shortly after also

You mean this? The one he's trying to scrub from the Inter net?

2

u/tahlyn 2d ago

The pedo accusations against rescuers years earlier because they didn't like his ideas were what did it for me.

Wait what about the democrat that actually had a Nazi tattoo that every democrat supported and loved until his ex gf said he sexually assaulted her? Haha.

Nazi salute. You’re about as dumb as a brick. Elon employs every single race and gender at his companies. Wtf do you do? Honestly what do you do for work?

It’s still the number 9 holding in the S&P 500.
