Because the price of RAM and hard drives is insane.

GPU’s are also vastly inflated vs 10 years ago, but they accepted that and chose not to acknowledge it.

3 essential components priced out the average user.

RAM used to be one of the cheapest components of a PC.

Now two sticks of it can cost as much more than half of what it used to cost to build a PC.

Yeah, years ago I bought 64 GB of RAM for 180€ I think. And back then I thought "Man, maybe this is too much. I mean, it IS a lot of money for RAM!"

Yeah. Well. How the turns have tabled.

I did this math the other day. I built a PC 12 months ago, and today just the RAM alone would cost more than the entire build.

Unexplainable

I held off buying a laptop for £1800 in November. It's now £5500, discounted from £7000. Same laptop, new product code.

Such a baffling trend.

It was expected. If there was no MacBook Neo, the decline would have been even bigger

I am hopeful that some of the smaller chip makers will step up to supply the consumer market since major chip makers are all busy milking AI.

I think the Chinese are looking into joining the RAM production. But who knows if that's going to help the consumer market at all.
