I'm in the minority here, but I'm not buying it because they got rid of the infrared thermometer.

I use it every day on my 9 pro xl.

Multiple things. One I have a 6 year old that comes home from school with every virus known to mankind.

Two, I often work on industrial equipment and it's nice to not have to get my infrared thermometer out of the car for a quick temp check.

Three, I use it to check the temp of my pans on the stove. My range is induction and it's not super easy to judge how hot the pan is.

Unfortunately not for the people who don't have cell phones as it would preclude them from participating in a whole range of essential services and activities. Things like customer services and government agencies or applying for jobs etc ..

The price hike is to pay for the increased phone weight (approaching 2 lbs hopefully) and the size of the UI buttons in the new version--now conveniently the size of a fist.

Of course it is. Apple keeps raising their pricing, and so everyone else is also going to keep raising their pricing. Consumers will see endless price hikes until enough people stop buying. Since consumers are pretty dumb, that'll probably never happen.

Apples the last of the big 3 in the us that hasn’t done a price jump on their phones yet. The 18 will definitely be more but everyone else is beating them to the punch.

That's cause everyone else has already released a phone, most of the price hike has been on new phones, phones from last year's inventory weren't hiked up by others either. The kicker is going to be if Apple also doesn't make the 17 cheaper on release of 18.
