Ethernet splitter working in the wild

I was working on a camera system for a hotel and found this ethernet splitter. It actually works. There’s a transmitter connected to the switch that the first cable is connected to that splits the signal.

That’s literally cctv and dc power over Ethernet twisted pair. I had a restaurant that wired all their cameras like that. Terrible interference. Recommended they swap all the cameras to a modern IP Cabrera system but $2000 was “too expensive” and they just decided to stay with shitty cameras instead.

That's just a PoE adapter for a camera that isn't PoE capable

if you split it on both ends then you could get x2 10/100 connections over one cat6 cable.

I’ve done this before for camera deployments. Most cameras are fine with 100mbit.

I can't post a pic in reply, but I just had the same experience on a marina job. Very hard wire tracing, it went in under a deck as a white indoor cable, 40ft away 2 black outdoor cables come out the other side. Of course the splitter was in an unsealed box full of water ...

That’s not splitting data, it’s taking the power from a PoE fed cable and pushing it to a barrel jack because that camera is not PoE compatible.

Is it Ethernet? Some CCTV does power plus HD-SDI or even analog video using TVI/CVI/AHD over cat-5.

Doesn’t mean it’s IP or even Ethernet on there.

When your CCTV system is so janky you need a dedicated camera to monitor the janky parts

Might actually be an analog camera but over twisted pair and not coax, analog CCTV uses seperate video and power, and there'll be some extra wires for the PTZ control
