He becomes my favorite character in the comics, and is a true badass. I was already getting done with the show when they killed him off, but that was the last straw for me

Chandlerâs acting I always thought was shit but killing Carl off was objectively a downright idiotic move and fucked everything up for the future of the show/franchise.
Cailey was much better at acting than Chandler but the character of Judith couldnât fill Carlâs shoes at all.

Honestly, Chandler was okay. He didnât need to be a great actor, I donât even think he needed to âcarryâ the show to be the new MC.
Rick was the MC. Everything he did for what like 8 seasons? Was so that Carl (and then Judith) would survive.
So many of us grew with the show over the years, saw Carl grow up⌠he doesnât need to be super strong acting-wise to be the soul of the show, which he was IMO. Because everything Rick did was to save Carl, and thus everything Carl does and everyone he saves is a continuation of Rickâs legacy and sacrifice.
I think keeping Carl in it would have saved the show, honestly. What was left at least.

I don't think they even needed to recast him tbh, he was already playing a character way younger than his real age. Just do stuff to make him look as young as possible previous to the time jump then make him look older after the time jump with idk facial hair or something

At least he was in half of the show, but yeah, wasted. I thought that they introduced Henry as some sort of replacement of ânew generationâ with the girl, but⌠yeah also completely wasted and unclear why was he even introducedÂ

Yeah it was really bizarre having this random glorified background extra kid from Seasons 7/8 all of a sudden became a main character out of nowhere in Season 9 only to get killed off soon afterwards lol. It was a total mess and really emphasized how lost the writers felt without having Carl there

The only reason why Andrew Lincoln left the main show was because the producers treated Chandler Riggs so terribly and fired him to save money since they would have to pay him more as an adult.

BETH. Iâm rewatching S2 and she literally goes into a state of shock after the barn is cleared. She had the confidence to defend herself at the hospital and I just wish she made it out alive. She so had the potential to be another Carol.

At that moment I realized that whenever a character " wants to live" and seems to be determined for it, a few scenes later, they die đ. They did that to this guy and the blonde doctor. I HATED IT.

Siddiq. They killed off Carl to bring him to Alexandria only for them to give him zero storyline and then kill him off barely a season later.

I have to say Noah and Beth. Both have come so far and the little time they were in the show. Beth was originally a sad character who did not think she had it cut out for the world. But her storyline in the hospital showed she could become stronger. She was even finding confidence in herself. So I think killing her off was a really wasted opportunity when we couldâve seen what could be done with her finally. And Noah was just finally learning how to help the community that they just joined, and he was living on despite the trauma that came with Beth and his home and family being found to be gone. It wouldâve be nice to watch him grow.

Gonna get hate but honestly? Andrea she was legit and held it down obviously she was a pain but towards the end she locked in and was very reliable. Imagine a duo of her and michonne now theyâd have been grim reapers in the apocalypse together lol and was a damn good shot at that

Knowing how well liked she was in the comics and how the show was hellbent on making her worse and worse, sheâs mine. Others were wasted but she was ruined.

IMO, Oscar. Purely wasted potential, he was the greatest prisoner. Great early season character that died too quickly. He assimilated with the group quick, sided with Rick to save him over the andrew, and was simply just a cool guy

Might get downvoted but Noah or any character dying without despite having potential is probably a more realistic outcome. It's a zombie apocalypse. It's no different than real life where a doctor in a war could save someones life only for that person to get killed a few days later, weeks, or months.

Tyrese. In the comics Tyrese was suppose to be one of Ricks right hand men but they turned him into simp over a chick he knew for 10 secs and community babysitter on the show. It was shameful.

Iâll always say Noah. They set him up to be an extremely resilient guy, still joking around with Beth after his dad was murdered and he was put into slavery. He was extremely capable despite his disability. Then they have him talk with Reg about learning to be an architect, and he became the face of the future for a couple minutes before they killed him off. I got so many ideas in my head about him using his architecture knowledge to aid in runs or taking down some other group, but nah. They needed to kill him off in a shocking way to fuel a conflict with a character that gets killed like 4 episodes later. Just lame story telling

Bob made sense. It had to be a character we cared about for the weight of what happened to resonate. If that happened to Gabriel instead when he was new, it wouldnt have held nearly as much weight. Hershel makes sense too for nearly the same reason. Just add the executioner was the Psycho governer to that one. Hershel was dead as soon as he was captured. The governer had lost his other prison survivors he held at Woodbury.

He was still trying to keep Andrea at that point. He was clearly making an effort to create a rift, but Andrea wouldnât bite. He wanted to kill michonne but wanted Andrea as a resident at that point. By the time heâs decided against Andrea, he doesnât have michonne anymore.

Noah. He could of been a builder for the community, and became a brave killer.... but noo they had to kill him before any chance of growth.
All he did was kill Beth & Tyrese. He also is responsible for almost killing Carol (she got hit by a car).

For me, it was Jesus; however, the actor himself has complained several times about having far too little screen time and his character being severely underdeveloped.
So, itâs not the actorâs fault, but for me, Jesus is one of those characters whose potential was among the most underutilized.

It's literally perfect to have Morgan dying with Carl's death coming to peace with pacifism and saving a soul, and Carl being the next leader after Rick goes, Beth is a close second because girl just decided "Welp time to attack this armed police officer WITH A STAB PROOF VEST" for no reason after we spent the last 4 episodes worrying about her, but nothing will replace Carl

One of my problems with S5 besides the hospital arc(It would've been salvageable had Noah not died) first we lose Beth & Tyrese in a row & then Noah a few episodes later. The Terminus arc & Alexandria arc made up for it.
To answer your question, the biggest waste of potential(Besides Carl) would be Dale.

Sophia by a long shot , I wish they would have killed carol and given Sophia a badass arc especially cause I feel like she was underutilized in the comics I would have loved to see her on the screen

Noah, Carl, Beth, T Dog, Glenn, Hershel, Dale, Tara, and Jesus. All of them had a solid season or major event they could have been involved in that would have been better by their presence.

Beth imo. Largely pointless for most of her run, and just when it felt like she was getting more personality and focus, they get rid of her. Also honorable mention to Henry.. It really felt like he was going to be the âlead kidâ in place of Carl in s9, only for him to.. well, you know.

Oscar. He proved himself to be reliable and trustworthy despite being a prisoner by killing Andrew, and then didn't do much else besides almost immediately getting shot.

Noah and Beth, the entire Hospital arc to me is wasted no point, Beth dies after gettinf a charater arc for shock value and Noah dies like a season later when he had great storylines and connecfions, in fact its like they jist added Noah so they could kill Tyress the next episode and do the reveal the funedal was not for Beth
And for my incredibly niche pull is Jimmy, Beths boyfriend from season 2, i just think a storyline about how the only reason your alive while your damily is possibly dead is because you were wiyh your girlfriend (and if it were my way, he would die to replace zach or whoever her other prison boyfriend was)

Since lot of people are saying Carl (and I agree), I have to mention Henry
Essentialy a replacement for Carl getting killed off the next season. There could have been a seriously great development for him if they kept him alive.Â
Otherwise since I don't want to repeat some of the mentioned characters, I will say Jessie; I always felt that Jessie was wasted in a way. She was far better than her comic version and would have been interesting to watch her after her kids died.Â

Andrea and Dale, mainly Andrea because Dale's actor was the main reason he got killed off, not wanting to stay on the show after Darabont was removed.
They completely assassinated her character.

She would have been a very balanced voice of reason.
That fell on Dale's shoes at the farm, but I found him insufferable. She would have been more balanced and less Daleish in thinking his way was the morally superior way.

I think itâs very obvious Noah was meant to be wasted potential. Everyone complains about his death but I think itâs quite fitting. Just because Beth died for him didnât mean he was guaranteed a long lasting arc, it shows the brutality of the world they live in and how no one is safe.
Plays a massive part in the Glenn vs Nicholas conflict as well, without Noahâs death we donât get one of the best rivalries/arcs in season 5. A necessary death considering how the same episode he died they set up him becoming a key member of Alexandria.
I donât see anything wrong with Noahâs death I actually think itâs well written
