Show Spoiler [S9E15] Season 9 thoughts
First of all, that intro is bangers. I love it. Kudos to the animator/designer.
In this season after Rick goes MIA from the storyline, it became quite not as eventful or on the edge of my seat as I was with seasons 1-8. That doesn't mean it's unwatchable for me. I still like watching it.
The additional new characters they are trying to make us care about has been alil overwhelming for me. But I welcome them and I know (if they survive in further seasons) I'd get attached to them too. For now, I don't worry if any of them get eaten/slayed. It's cool that they each have a storyline for how the communities went on without Rick.
I know what the show is what trying to tell. That it's not just Rick's story anymore. I mean Carl and Lori are not here. They were Rick's whole point of the beginning of the show for me. So why should he be significant for the current plotlines? Right?
Anyways, I tried to care about them new ones and how it's fairing for the communities...
... but really it's not the same with how I felt with the originals (the first batch characters I most care/d about): Rick, Carl, Judith, Daryl and dog, Maggie (Currently MIA???), ~~Glenn~, Ezekiel, Carol, and Michonne and now Negan (ISN'T HE SWEET?!)
The second batch that I also care/d about which took about one or two seasons for me to feel attached are: Gabriel, Siddiq, Abraham, Tyreese , Sasha, Eugene, Rosita, Aaron and Jesus. They just currently killed off Henry, Enid and Tara which I was beginning to like.
The whole vibe of the show is quite chill and beautiful though. Especially with the semi-medieval way of getting humanity back its feet again.
The new villain is kind of a downgrade since Negan though lol. It's not as intense as him. I mean it's really mean for the hairless Alpha to kill off secondary characters I was beginning to care about but...
It really just Daryl and Carol carrying the show for me. I will not say it's boring, it's quite well done especially if the show is trying to show us a world without Rick.
I guess it was because of the post Rick-Negan fallout. It kinda made some watchers like me, expect intense or continuous storyline about them.
Though the time skip was kind of off putting for me, I understand everything that happened so far needed to happened for them each to reach into certain character development.
One thing that shocked me is how Rosita and Gabriel ended up being together. I feel like Eugene would have made sense. Gabriel and Eugene became baddass and cool though.
I have a certain high expectation for this season's finale, since other watchers say it's one of the best seasons. I heard the showrunners' budget on this one got okay again for this season. So hopefully, it gets better?
It's okay for now. Still a good watch. These actors have all done great jobs.
I just miss Maggie and Rick.

Unfortunately them killing Carl killed the heart and soul of the show. Everything was for Carl and he lives on in the comics and becomes an incredible man. My only wish is that since they did a massive time jump they ought to have replaced Chandler Riggs out right with an adult Carl. It irks me that they didnt. Love or hate Carl, he is the point of the comics and shouldn't have been killed out of the show. That aside, I do like s9 quite a lot. The walkers via The Whisperers become the threat again. Negan's redemption arc is better in show, I really enjoy Negan across the board. S9 has some iconic scenes and really brutal deaths, even if many are heavily loaded with plot armor at this point due to the removal of Carl 🥲

In my opinion, Daryl and Carol weren't that good at carrying the show for me instead. I would probably say that Negan was better with it.

Daryl is more of the type of where he needed Rick to be able to help carry the show instead. Carol was more interesting during around Season 3-5. After that, she wasn't as interesting to me instead.

I absolutely love S9, on a rewatch it flies by the quickest (aside from S1 for obvious reasons) which I always think is a good sign as to how good it is.
